Although a truly gifted hairstylist, Kiri Kosiba has no interest in using her talent to pursue fame and fortune, unlike the three popular boys in the "Scissors Project" at school. Determined to become the best makeover team in Japan, they give showy makeovers to handpicked girls. As much as Kiri tries to shy away from the Scissors Project spotlight, she finds herself responding to beauty's call.
Narumi's father, Yujiro, a world famous hairstylist with salons across the globe, has never been able to defeat Kiri's father Seiji in a hairstyling competition. Will Narumi be able to surpass his father by winning against Kiri?
If I thought you couldn’t have a shojo without romance the focus, but I was wrong! I LOVED the friendship elements in this! Also that backstory was interesting! I feel I should have saw it coming but I didn’t. LOL! Another great volume!
This volume had the perfect amount of plot and general silliness for me to keep me entertained without making me bored. We now know Kiri and Narumi have more of a connection than we initially thought. The major twist this volume made perfect sense, and we continue to see the S.P. in action with a model that mirrored Narumi and mysterious e-mails. Chisami may not be the best character, but at least her misunderstanding got cleared up as I wasn't sure if that was going to be recurring throughout the series. If so, it would have been annoying.
Speaking of the subplot with Chisami, I wonder if it could have been improved with higher stakes. I thought our forever second placer was involved, but for those three to go to all that trouble for what their goal was? Meh. At least Kiri and Kanako made up, even if the latter's feeling for Ochiai haven't faded over time. This will be fascinating as his crush on Kiri continues to develop.
As I said in reviewing the earlier volumes, between 2-3 stars for me, so rounded up. It has its funny moments, and the art is enjoyable, but mostly I'm enjoying it now as a nostalgic reread from high school.
And we've reached the trudge-along point of the series. These hair contests just get so repetitive.
The shock that Narumi has in this one is hilarious. Finding out that Kiri is the girl from the contest he lost in 4th grade, he completely exploded. And I think he genuinely likes Kiri, which makes it all the more funny. I wonder what the rest of the crew will do with that information and what is in store for the SP

Kiri is SO FUNNY! I love her indifference. It really makes her an interesting shoujo protagonist. My only confusion is where Iori lies in his relationship with Kiri. Why does he try to get her attention so much and why did he try to hide a key part of Kiri’s past from her? Hopefully these questions will be answered in the next volume.
Meh. I was ready to read the whole series (it's only 10 volumes and I have the time right now during the COVID-19 pandemic) but this volume jumped the shark.
Well after intense February, I’m having a small shoujo showdown. Basically, I mostly review shoujo, but during December (that’s when this review is written) I was craving something totally moe and was rereading some of the “romance” shoujo’s that I hadn’t reviewed yet. So let me start from the very beginning.
This story is a let down in a romance department, especially in the main couple. I wanted to see more, it was expected that Ki-chan will end up with Naru, but I didn’t really get to see it. Don’t get me wrong, they do and they have two adorkable kids together, but there was only an awkward kiss and nothing else. Ki-chan never got over her aloofness and I loved her character for that, but still I wanted her to show a bit more emotions. But I guess I’m making absolutely no sense, as I haven’t even told you what the story is all about! Have you ever wondered how some hairdressers become famous and some work in third-rate beauty salons? Here’s your chance to get an inside on the world of hair-stylists. Our male protagonists – Naru, Yoichi and Kei are part of Scissors Project. They transform plain girls into beauties! And Naru is a self-proclaimed genius. However, everything changes, when there appears mysterious hair beautician, who is always better than Naru.
Will those two become rivals or will they start working together to face formidable enemies? And trust me there will be quite a lot of them! Are you ready to dive into a world full of fun, action and cute hairstyles? I actually took some of mine from there. Get to know the hilarious characters and fantastically aloof Ki-chan. She really inspired one of the characters of my story. Enjoy it to its fullest and don’t forget to share your thoughts below! Stay tuned for more reviews as well as your thoughts below!
Iorin's on the cover... I really don't like him that much: too much me in him. Seki's way nicer.

I bought an ex-library copy: it came from a library in the State of Victoria, in Australia... This is one of the reason why I love second-hand books.
It's nice to read a shojo which is not centered around love sometimes. Narumi shows signs of being way too interested in Kiri but there's not a lot of that. And I love all the stuff involving hairstyling.
This story is starting to get a little repetative - I feel it's stretching the story to make it a longer series, but what happens is there's a lot of filler moments, and waaaay too many hair competitions. The author has even had to use a storyline about a doll needing a haircut - it's weird. Also, the obvious set up for the couple is crap because they have absolutely no chemistry, and we're already half way through the series! I hope the next volume picks up, because I'm starting to get bored.
Beauty Pop from the start was a great read, i enjoyed immensely the action between Kiri and Narumi, how she doesn't care in the world and how he breaks out in hives whenever a girl touches him. Kiri changed his life from a young age, which he finds out later on, so he sees her as a rival and eventually as a girl he loves.
Series Review: Beauty Pop is exactly like its name very cute and funny. It has a unique premise of makeovers and the plot can be unexpectedly dramatic at times. The characters are what had me hooked as I loved them all too much to get bored. I feel the ending was rushed but over all it fit the story well. I recommend this manga to those who like very light and cutie stories.
Beauty Pop, Volume 5 was such a good read with a great storyline and good humour to match. I would definitely recommend this book to those who love reading manga, as well as those who are looking for a quirky, yet dominant female lead role. The only unfortunate thing I found with this book is that they no longer make hardcopies and that you can only read them as ebooks now.
Ohhhhhh, the rivalry continues as everyone finally finds out that the only time Narumi ever lost a hairstyling competition (in the fourth grade) it was Kiri who beat him. And of course, she couldn't care less about it all.
The novelty of this is starting to ware off for me. :/ Whatever am I going to do? Maybe it's that the storyline in so drawn out by all of these hair competitions, or maybe I've just lost interest. I'll try another volume or two, but if it doesn't pick up soon, I'm putting this one to rest
I love Beauty Pop so much! It's one of those manga books that, even with a weird focus of choice, is still a really and unbelievibly great book. Deserves more than a 10 rating.
