About the author

Jane Austen was an English novelist known primarily for her six novels, which implicitly interpret, critique, and comment upon the English landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. Austen's plots often explore the dependence of women on marriage for the pursuit of favourable social standing and economic security. Her works are an implicit critique of the novels of sensibility of the second half of the 18th century and are part of the transition to 19th-century literary realism. Her deft use of social commentary, realism and biting irony have earned her acclaim among critics and scholars.

The anonymously published Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814), and Emma (1816), were a modest success but brought her little fame in her lifetime. She wrote two other novels—Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, both published posthumously in 1817—and began another, eventually titled Sanditon, but died before its completion. She also left behind three volumes of juvenile writings in manuscript, the short epistolary novel Lady Susan, and the unfinished novel The Watsons.
Since her death Austen's novels have rarely been out of print. A significant transition in her reputation occurred in 1833, when they were republished in Richard Bentley's Standard Novels series (illustrated by Ferdinand Pickering and sold as a set). They gradually gained wide acclaim and popular readership. In 1869, fifty-two years after her death, her nephew's publication of A Memoir of Jane Austen introduced a compelling version of her writing career and supposedly uneventful life to an eager audience. Her work has inspired a large number of critical essays and has been included in many literary anthologies. Her novels have also inspired many films, including 1940's Pride and Prejudice, 1995's Sense and Sensibility and 2016's Love & Friendship.

Voy a empezar hablando de los Watson. Debo admitir que me rompió el corazón cuando leí este relato por lo bueno que es, queda tan inconcluso y es difícil porque con cada párrafo que leía me gustaba cada vez más, ojalá no fuera así y fuera un libro completo, pero tristemente no lo es. Se siente como algo tan bueno como este escrito hubiera quedado así de inconcluso por una razón que no quiero y no logro comprender. Es tan loco lo mucho que me gustó aun en el poco tiempo que tengo para leerlo y conocer a sus personajes. Tiene mucha esencia de Jane Austen impregnado en él, pero al mismo tiempo es fresco y delicado, se siente interesante y relajado. Es toda una pena siento que tiene todo el potencia necesario para volverse uno de mis favoritos de la autora. Por otro lado, agradezco que no se tomaran la libertad sus familiares de literalmente terminar de escribirlo y posiblemente arruinar la maravilla de escrito de la autora. Con tan poco escrito, para mí se llevó 5 de 5, aunque al no ser un libro es difícil juzgarlo como tal.
Por otro lado, leí Sanditon, que al principio trataba de leer como cualquier otro relato de Jane Austen, pero la realidad es que es más complicado, con personajes que salen de la nada y tratan de explicarte sus vidas y formas, cuando de pronto aparece más gente y no entiendes por donde va la lectura. Aquí me costó un poco más, se sentía extraño, como si no lograra de cuajar el inicio, como si no entendiera el por qué de tanta explicación. Al final es extraño, logré conectarme y comenzar a agarrar el hilo de la lectura, pero en ese momento quedaban 2 páginas para terminarlo. Debo admitir que no me parece malo, solo que no logré conectar a tiempo y cuando pasó se terminó y al se muy corto no logró volverse memorable. Si tuviera que calificar este relato sería 3.5 de 5 por la forma en la que no me llenó y quedó a deber. Aunque claramente está que está bien escrito y logrado.
Por el lado de Emma ya lo había leído y me parece increíble.
Por el lado de Lady Susan ya lo había leído y me parece grandioso, lo que logra con tan poco y redactado como cartas, bravo.

Es la obra completa de Jane Austin, libros que verdaderamente son excelentes si te gusta lo clásico y lo de época.
