Imagine reading a romance set in a wildlife sanctuary where she pretends to be her twin sister and he can't stand to be in the same room as her. Well, such a book exists! I absolutely loved this book! The Seven Day Switch is the perfect enemies-to-lovers romcom and will have you laughing out loud, swooning and wanting to get a dog. That orange peel scene 😂 Afrikaans people will understand how easily that miscommunication can happen.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I feel it's one of those books that every romance reader needs to read. It needs to be on your shelf. The banter, the humour, and the romance are all perfect.
While the switch between the sisters was supposed to be for one thing, Becca gets more than what she expected and I loved it. Do I love this book because it's set in South Africa, yes! But there's more to it, a certain charm that Meg Chronis has, something that makes you pick up the book and make you forget that you're reading.

There’s something to love here, but there’s also a lot that will make you cringe, and unfortunately I think the latter outdid the former for me.
The plot is your very common twin switcheroo: Becca is a hotel concierge while Gem is a high-profile celebrity. When Gem gets wrapped up in a horrible scandal and struggles to finish her community service in South Africa, people-pleasing Becca steps up to go do it for her. And Sully, the veterinarian she works under, finds himself going from not being able to stand Gem to weirdly being drawn to her. But stepping into the shoes of a celebrity is much harder than she expected, and the result is exactly what you’d expect: CHAOS.
If you’re looking for a simple rom-com and nothing more, this is for you. There are over-the-top shenanigans — sometimes it’s funny and sometimes it’s a little cringe-inducing. Plot-wise I do think it gets a little frustrating when much of the chaos is the outcome of questionable decision-making; you can tell immediately which of Becca’s ideas are going to turn out disastrous and it’s unfathomable why she would even consider doing them. It made the book pretty frustrating to read.
Still, I think the cast is generally distinguishable and likable; I especially liked Sully’s tough-guy façade and I liked seeing his confusion and perspective slowly change as he warmed up to “new Gem.” They had really fun banter and you definitely feel the giddiness of two people falling in love combined with the tension of knowing that an identity reveal is inevitable.
My biggest criticism is something very important to me and it is unfortunately something that can be summed up in one short sentence: I DESPISE the evil second-female-lead trope and this book just had way too much of it. I was really hoping Clare wouldn’t become the cliché jealous woman who lies and insults others, but the book really went for it and doubled down on that personality many more times after that. In fact, there were a lot of plot developments that seemed to occur because of Clare, and I feel like there could’ve been better ways to move the story forwards instead of just making her character utterly awful. This, combined with the constant barrage of frustrating choices made by Becca made the book less enjoyable than I would’ve liked.
Other than those criticisms, the story was a good time and I did think it was a fantastic use of the twin switch trope. If you don’t mind some secondhand embarrassment, I’m sure you’ll find it really fun.

I started this book and couldn't put it down. I read it in a day.
It was such a cute story to get lost in. It's a great romance but it also had excellent character development. There are conflicts and resolutions. And I think what I loved most is that Becca (and even Gem) got there on their own. Sully wasn't a hero that came in and saved the day. Sure, he showed protectiveness at times but he also respected that Becca needed to get there on her own and see that she was more than what she believed.
The romance was good. It wasn't overly spicy but didn't fade to black which I liked. He's a grump who doesn't trust easily and she's stubborn, and "sees the good" in every one type. They are forced to spend a week together when she switches places with her twin sister who's in trouble. I was a little nervous about the twin switch but Meg did a great job with it. Becca may have been pretending to be Gem but at the heart of it, she was only showing her true self. I also LOVED his response in the end and that he wasn't portrayed as a typical hot-headed doofus that is brash to react.
Overall I loved this book. I laughed out loud multiple times (sorry Becca) and I raised a triumphant fist in the air as I finished the book last night.
I can't wait for book 2!

This book was overall cute but I couldn’t get past the uncomfortable beginning of selfish Gem and the twins mom basically forcing Becca to do her twins dirty work. So the sister and mom could…relax on vacation. What? How is this ok?
The animal sanctuary antics were fun and the romance was cute. I just wish the reason Becca ended up there was nicer.

I liked this book and found myself giggling a few times at the unfortunate situations Becca found herself in although I couldn't get over how she kept making such silly decisions. The twin switch trope was done well and I loved Sully, the grumpy vet and his cute potato carrying dog Ella.
The South African setting and flavour of the book added to my enjoyment of the story. I'm glad Gem and her Mom eventually redeemed themselves at the end because they both came across as selfish in the beginning of the book. Overall this is a cute, light read that will definitely make you smile.

4.5 ⭐️ I loved this story from start to end. Set in the Drakensberg, South Africa. Twins decide to swap for a week and she ends up working in a nature reserve. I loved diving into this life, the awareness it brought and imagining myself in these scenarios. This book was funny, cute, wholesome, repped healing and being true to yourself and allowing yourself the grace to change. I love that Ella and her potato feature on the cover, it's the cutest thing ever! ❤

This was a cute, sweet and pretty good romantic comedy. I've never read anything by this author before and I can count on one hand how many South African authors I've read before this week, but I was still able to keep up pretty well when the author used South African terms unfamiliar to us Americans.
Becca has an identical twin sister, Gem, who is a bit of a celebrity in South Africa, but she's found herself in a world of bad publicity and is now trying to salvage her career. Only she's having a breakdown and needs her identical twin to come save her from herself and serve her community service at a wildlife rescue sanctuary.
Becca is the opposite of her sister. She's very smart and is good at her job as a concierge, but she doesn't do well in public and performing under pressure, that's for sure. What transpires while she's doing the twin switch is easily explained as 'a series of unfortunate events.' It became fairly predictable every time she'd find herself trying to 'help.' I just had to roll my eyes figuratively many times and wonder why she couldn't see the disaster coming from a mile away.
Sully was adorable. He was broody and he kept the tough guy facade to make it seem as though he wasn't a secret softie. But he came around and really became a champion on Becca's behalf. And his love and care of the animals, so swoony. I did find myself wondering at the end why he didn't figure out the whole switch thing sooner than he did. I mean it was so obvious based on Becca's dialogue alone that she was not who she said she was, especially when she mentioned London-based landmarks and said things that only the British say.
I found myself looking up many of the animals mentioned in the book. I had seen some of them before, but didn't know their names and learned a lot. The author also brings poaching issues they face to the attention of readers. Thank you to the author for bringing these issues to our attention and for making us fall in love with something as previously misjudged as a bat.

Did I know I was in for the most perfect Rom-Com when I picked up this book? Nope. Did I absolutely devour the sh*t out of it? HELL YES!! This book was one of the most cutest reads I have ever read and I am absolutely obsessed with it. It reminded me so much of a book I once read called Just Like That by Nina Kaye - but a little more lighthearted and funny. I enjoyed this plot so much, I think I have The Parent Trap to thank for my love for identical twin switches. And you can bet your ass I told everyone to read it, this list includes friends, family members and colleagues that don't even read! 👀😂
I adored the setting of this book, we go between a hotel in London and a Wildlife Sanctuary in the heart of Kwa-Zulu Natal and all the scenery was perfect. And because I'm from South Africa, I could picture the entire atmosphere of the book and that really made it feel so cozy, real and wonderful. I love that it's a sort of soft enemies to lovers too! Becca is a strong, independent woman who is also super kind-hearted but boy, does she attract disaster! I mean, she cannot get a single thing done without completely annihilating it some way or the other and I found all those blooper scenes to be extraordinarily hilarious.
I adored Dr. Sullivan Scott! He is such an amazingly sweet character, hard-working and passionate about his job and animals and I just love every single scene with him in it. I love how he gave off he-falls-first vibes even though he obviously did not like "Gem" from the beginning. This book explored the bad side of social media and the paparazzi and how that can have such a negative effect on someone's life. I think that everything Becca and Gem and Sully went through made them better and stronger people and I absolutely adored the ending! This was such a good book guys 😭😍

I had a hard time getting into this one, but I think it was because I was distracted…I ended up loving it! Reading about Becca’s interactions with Dr. Sully while pretending to be her twin, Gem, was great. I love a good story that involves animals, and I absolutely loved all of the dog and other animal references (Ella was my favorite!)!
I thought that the story was very well written, and the author did a great job of developing the plot and character personalities - I thoroughly enjoyed it, and look forward to reading more of her work!

This charming enemies to lovers book was a delight to read. I really empathised with the MC and the whole story was just so heart-warming. There were points in the plot that really made me laugh out loud. A pleasure to read. Thank you NetGalley and to the publishers for an early review copy.

This was such a cosy read and I enjoyed getting to read a romance set in South Africa. Along with the story highlighting some endangered and highly traffic animals in the region.
"Pangolins are the most trafficked animal in the world."
Although found the story enjoyable, initially found it a bit anxiety inducing as absolutely nothing seems to go well, but this does improve as the story continues.
"If she messed up and the truth go out, the hate Gemma was already dealing with online would feel like a welcome-home ticker tape parade"
- Just a really bad idea all round then
Bonus points as the Vet has a friendly chocolate labrador companion that I adds some extra charm to the story. However, Becca does seem a bit gullable at times. Even when she acknowledges that a particularly person should not be trusted...she goes ahead and trusts them anyway, to her own demise.
"One day she'd learn not to trust a word that came out of...mouth"
There was also a nice collection of additional characters, although some, namely her mother does come across as a bit of controlling character. Rather than her mother and sister staying close by in the event something goes wrong, they decide to go on a luxury holiday.
"an all-expense paid trip to a yoga retreat in Thailand, a sweetner from one of Gem's sponsors"
- While Becca will struggle in the rouse without any support.

Three and a half stars.
When Becca Stratton's identical twin TV celebrity Gem runs into problems as always Becca comes riding in to the rescue, leaving her prestigious job as concierge at one of London's smartest hotels to return to South Africa where Gem was supposed to be doing seven days of community work at an animal sanctuary after tweeting some unfortunate remarks about an animal. Gem's had a meltdown and is in danger of losing her lucrative sponsorship deals unless she (ie Becca) can fix things with the surly vet Dr Sullivan Scott.
How hard can it be? Switch places for one week? Easy. Shovel manure? You should see the things Becca has had to clean when she was working her way up the ladder in hospitality.
The only trouble is, Becca's legendary prowess at fixing problems for her hotel guests has totally deserted her and it seems she can't take a step without mucking up, whether its crashing her car or practically drowning a dog. And then there's the inconvenient attraction to Dr Scott, especially since Gem is dating the captain of the Springboks (South Africa's national rugby team).
I'll be honest, I would have liked this better if Becca hadn't been such a walking disaster. It felt out of character and unrealistic. Why would Sully fall for a woman like that? Also, Becca was so totally indiscreet and talked about London so much that it felt contrived that Sully didn't put two and two together and guess that she was Becca when he learned that she had an identical twin sister. Especially since he commented so often about how different she was when she returned.
Overall, this felt like one of those Goldie Hawn frenetic romantic comedies (you know the ones where she runs about causing chaos and squealing a lot) which didn't really match with the vibe of the characters. I don't think I'm explaining myself very well, but if you are the type of woman who can pander to outrageous guest demands and do it with a smile on your face, why would you do so many stupid things? Ah, no I've just got it, very much like The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, although there's no reason to take Becca down a peg or two. So a four star knocked down by half a star.

When Becca Stratton's identical twin TV celebrity Gem runs into problems as always Becca comes riding in to the rescue, leaving her prestigious job as concierge at one of London's smartest hotels to return to South Africa where Gem was supposed to be doing seven days of community work at an animal sanctuary after tweeting some unfortunate remarks about an animal. Gem's had a meltdown and is in danger of losing her lucrative sponsorship deals unless she (ie Becca) can fix things with the surly vet Dr Sullivan Scott.
How hard can it be? Switch places for one week? Easy. Shovel manure? You should see the things Becca has had to clean when she was working her way up the ladder in hospitality.
The only trouble is, Becca's legendary prowess at fixing problems for her hotel guests has totally deserted her and it seems she can't take a step without mucking up, whether its crashing her car or practically drowning a dog. And then there's the inconvenient attraction to Dr Scott, especially since Gem is dating the captain of the Springboks (South Africa's national rugby team).

I am writing this review after just finishing "The Seven Day Switch" so pardon my over-excitement since I still have all those giddy emotions coursing through me.
This book follows Becca - a London almost-elite head concierge - who comes to the rescue of her twin sister Gem - a celebrity TV presenter - after she gets a ton of backlash over an unfortunate post on Instagram.
Becca proceeds to switch with her twin, unbeknownst to everyone else, and is on a mission to fulfill her sister's mandatory volunteer work in an animal sanctuary in South Africa.
What she doesn't expect is the sexy, insufferable, and secretly kind-hearted veterinarian Dr. Sullivan Scott who gets on her nerves as much as he pulls at her heartstrings. Adding to that, pretending to be her sister is proving to be a harder task than she anticipated, and more often than not Becca's good intentions end up backfiring and causing even more trouble to Gem’s public image.
This was the kind of book that kept me up way past my bedtime. It was an effortless read, fast-paced, hilarious, and wholesome.
Becca was the sweetest, funniest, and most genuine person (even when the point was NOT to be herself). Her kindness and strength made me love her so much. She was such a relatable character and I must confess that her struggle with her people-pleasing tendencies hit home.
Dr. Sullivan Scott (aka Sully) was the epitome of the gruff-exterior, softy-on-the-inside man. With an unwavering sense of responsibility towards the animals he cares for, he showed the same protectiveness towards those he loves. The no-nonsense exterior hid such a big heart that I couldn’t help but wish I was one of those animals that he rescued just so I could be scooped up and saved by him.
I didn’t know I needed a book where the MMC was a hot, sarcastic, and caring vet but damn did I eat that up like it was chocolate. I’ll be spending my next days looking for books with this trope just so I can cure my Dr. Sully hangover.
The less-than-positive thing I can say about this book is a) that it ended too soon (because I wanted to have more time with these characters, not because it was rushed) and b) that I wish it had a bit more spice in it (and who can blame me? That was a MMC worth simping over and I just wish I could’ve drooled over him some more) . However, let me make it clear that the less spice didn’t take away from the story at all.
There were times I laughed out loud at Becca and Sully’s exchanges or felt like screaming at our FMC to not do certain things because I knew they'd end up going south.
I smiled like an idiot at some of the more lovey-dovey scenes (trust me, my cheeks still ache after reading that final chapter) and bawled my eyes out when Becca finally took a stand against her own people-pleasing tendencies.

When I read a book and days later, I still find myself thinking about the characters and what they might be up to, I know that the story was a good one. When I want to know more about the hero and heroine after the novel wraps, I know that I’ve found an author I want to read more from. The Seven Day Switch was that type of book and I am ready for more from Meg Chronis.
Becca Stratton is the head concierge at a upscale hotel in London but she is flying back to her native South Africa because her twin sister, Gemma, a reality star, has gotten herself in hot water with some Instagram posts and was supposed to be rehabilitating her image by doing community service at a wildlife sanctuary. Sadly, Gemma did not last long at the refuge and escaped back to Johannesburg. Becca’s mom calls her back to South Africa so she can take her sister’s place and spend the week at the refuge. All she has to do is lay low and muck out some stalls.
But of course, that is not what happens, Becca keeps getting herself into one fix after another, even though she is just trying to do the right thing. Becca is a people pleaser (she is a concierge after all) and when she tries to help, disaster lurks around the corner. And so does the hunky Dr. Sullivan Scott, the head vet at the refuge. He didn’t like Gemma the first time but he seems to be falling for her during her second trip.
I liked these characters so much, they had great chemistry and I enjoyed them getting to know each other. The whole element of the wildlife refuge was also so interesting, I was Googling a lot of different animals. I always like it when a book introduces me to something I don’t know about. I also went down a rabbit hole on Cape Dutch architecture which was utterly fascinating. And I did not know that the unicorn was the official animal of Scotland!
Overall, a really good read. A few times I was like, please leave poor Becca alone, there was a lot that happened. The resolution worked for me, I like how it came about and I like how Becca grew as a person. Sully was just lovely, a good guy with a huge love for animals. There is a delightful Labbie in this book as well as some canine hijinks, always a plus in my estimation.
I’m ready for Gemma’s book now!

The Seven Day Switch by Meg Chronis 🦒
This was super fun and I ended up reading it in less than 12 hours. I absolutely loved the setting for this book with it being at a wildlife sanctuary in South Africa and getting to see and learn a little about the animals at the sanctuary. I hadn't read a book before where a main character was a vet, let alone a wildlife vet, and Sully was an absolute dream.
The twin swap is a kind of classic trope for me now and was happy to see some unique takes on it in this book. I really liked Becca and related to her wanting to do what she could to help her sister and others in her life. She was a lot braver than I would have been jumping right into the community service and other celebrity appearances she had to make in place of her sister. I would have loved the wildlife sanctuary parts... the public speaking not so much.
Sully was an absolute cutie and I would have loved to get a little bit of his POV. I was swooning every time he was interacting with animals or with his dog Ella. He came off as grumpy as first but he softens up as he gets to know Becca and realize something is different about the person he thought he despised.
I am always torn on how believable the twin swap thing is but I'll suspend those thoughts for a book like this. The reason this didn't end up being more than a 3.5 star read for me was I didn't love the conflict with another female main character and the drama it added. There's no cheating or anything like that, but with Becca's twin being a celebrity I think that could have been conflict enough throughout the book without the other female character.
A couple points got a little repetitive as well with Becca doing something thinking it would be fine and then something going wrong. I also felt like I was a little robbed with there being hints of being some spice in there and then once we got to it it faded to black.
A very enjoyable read with probably my favorite setting in a romance book in awhile! I am looking forward to reading the next book that was hinted to be Becca's twin, Gem, and Sully's brother, Rohan, who is a motorcycle racer!

Becca is about to join a highly distinguished concierge association. However, her identical twin, Gem, needs her help. Gem … Gem messed up. She might have insinuated a leopard cub would make a fine coat, if it wasn’t too small. Sigh. And she has under a week to complete her 50 hours of animal related community service or she loses her job hosting “Luxe Life”. Gem cannot handle the work at an animal sanctuary. She is struggling and needs help. So …

Becca will be cleaning animal enclosures while Gem and their mom are on an all expense paid trip to Thailand…with Gem traveling as Becca.
Will the twins be caught? Will the animal sanctuary owner, Sully, notice the swap? Will Gem’s job be saved? Will anyone find true love?
This was sweet. Becca and Sully were adorable. Watching those two get to know each other was a joy. And Sully’s lab Ella stole the show with her potato! (Yes, you read that right. A lab pup and her precious potato.)
Becca found herself in innocent situations that were taken out of context and resulting the gossip mags posts were very believable. Well, not the situations, per se, but the tabloids take on them were. I mean, most people don’t accidentally get an endangered species kidnapped…animal-napped? It was a good addition to the story, same with the social media posts and comments.
The secondary characters were hit and miss. The “villain” was obvious to me, but I’m really good at those predictions, so take this with a grain of salt. I did not like Gem at first, but she won me over in the end. But, omg…the mother is such a stage mom. Caring about appearance over anything. Also, clearly, she was prioritizing Gem over Becca. The twins father was lovely and I would have enjoyed more scenes with him.
Overall, this was a cute, sweet romance. If you are looking for something light and fun…I highly recommend.

This book is the first ever book I have read set in South Africa and I will just say, GIVE ME MORE!
Everything in this book felt just right, the author has managed to write such a cute and funny story; honestly give me more of Dr Scott, I want a guy like that myself....just don't tell my boyfriend.
There is a broad range of topics discussed and covered throughout the book, I especially liked reading about the different South African animals which I was not aware about and the terrible things many of them go through due to poachers; it was a real eye opener.
The general switch story was similar to other books and stories I've read before, although the reasons behind the switch are rather unique and make for a good storyline. However, I am still slightly confused about the pageants mentioned in the story and the traumatic affect on the main character from this; I think it doesn't necessarily fit in the story but does not ruin the experience of the book in a way.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves reading about animals, rom-coms and anyone looking for a bring me out of a slump read. I think anyone who has read Ali Hazelwood books such as Love Hypothesis and Love on the Brain would enjoy this story, the book felt to be written in a similar way and that's something I really enjoyed; the writing style was exactly how I like it. Easy to follow but unique, I enjoyed seeing the news coverage and Instagram posts....oh and let's not forget the hashtags at the top of the chapters, they were great at giving little clues away of the coming chapter but did not spoil anything; in contrast, they kept me engaged and guessing at what will happen in the story next. I was able to guess 20% of the time, so I must be a terrible investigator.
I have my hopes up that this book is picked up by Illumicrate in the future, I would love a special edition of it on my shelf.

Oh man...this book got me! I'm giving it 5 stars (I would really give it 4.5) because it was such an easy read - and I simply couldn't put it down. Everything about this book gave me feel good feelings (well, almost everything). Animals, a gruff-exterior-but-really-a-teddy-bear Veterinarian, slow burn...so good. Also, this is the second book in as many days that I've read where I've learned that the national animal of Scotland is the Unicorn. Fascinating!
The beginning of the book, I can't lie - it started off a little rough for me. I also have a background and a degree in hospitality, so while I didn't work in a hotel (I worked in theme parks), I felt so much for Becca and what she has to deal with daily. That being said, I was not a fan of her mom or her sister for letting Becca take on this responsibility to fix something her sister caused. What helped redeem the book was the fact that Gem definitely seemed to realize where she had gone wrong and proactively tried to fix it; their mom on the other hand did not get the same memo.
Sullivan stole my heart early on - and that could be because I am in love with Ella, his dog...or the fact that we have a dog name Sullivan who is just as derpy and sweet as Ella. I could have done without Clare; Becca was way nicer to her than I would have been, but that is neither here nor there. Becca and Gem's dad was also not one of my favorite characters. Beautiful scenery, cute animals, and a hot vet? Sign me up! I loved getting to know Dr. Sullivan “Surly” Scott and his pack of critters in need of rescuing at Winterberg Wildlife Rescue. Even though the set up is contrived (extreme people-pleaser Becca says yes to completely abandoning her life for a week to take over her famous twin’s community service) and the hijinks outlandish, The Seven Day Switch was a lot of fun.
Sully’s grumpiness at having a celebrity foisted upon his animal sanctuary is totally understandable. Becca is game for all the things he throws at her – maybe too game, and things keep going terribly awry as she in an effort to help save her sister’s career. People-pleasers are among my least favorite MC qualities (it’s never the men, notice) – I just want to shake them and tell them It’s ok to say no! – but then again, I’d totally love the chance to spend a week volunteering at a wildlife rescue, especially if it got me into the good graces of the sexy animal doc in charge.book

Sully’s grumpiness at having a celebrity foisted upon his animal sanctuary is totally understandable. Becca is game for all the things he throws at her – maybe too game, and things keep going terribly awry as she in an effort to help save her sister’s career. People-pleasers are among my least favorite MC qualities (it’s never the men, notice) – I just want to shake them and tell them It’s ok to say no! – but then again, I’d totally love the chance to spend a week volunteering at a wildlife rescue, especially if it got me into the good graces of the sexy animal doc in charge.book

Meg Chronis delivered an adorable enemies to lovers romance filled with hilarious disaster scenarios, interesting wildlife facts, and satisfying character development. Becca was a lovable MC who kept finding herself in unfortunate predicaments, and her self-realization at the end was the perfect closing. I really appreciated how Becca didn’t need the man, or anyone for that matter, to make her realize what she deserved in life, and she made it happen for herself with her own determination. That being said, I love Sully’s faith in her determination, and his way of supporting her by allowing her to come to her own resolutions on her own time. I enjoyed the pacing at which Sully’s tough exterior crumbled, and his gentleness with the animals gave readers a peek at what could be. Sully is protective in a non-toxic way, which is rare in romances and much appreciated. The relationship between the two progressed at a good pace and I really enjoyed the sprinkling in of heartwarming moments, funny shenanigans, and suspense of Becca getting caught in her lie. I surprised myself by loving this read, and I’m very excited for more from the Stratton Sisters.

Those of you who have been following me for a while will know that I’m more of a thriller-girlie than a romance one, so you know I loved this book is truly amazing when I give it five stars. Meg Chronis has written the best male lead in a rom-com that I’ve read in a while. Sully is sarcastic and hilarious at the beginning of the book, while he tries to keep Becca/Gem at arm’s length, but as the book progresses he melts in her presence. He’s funny and kind and soft with his girl and most importantly, when Becca burns out from giving everything for everyone else, Sully is the one who expects nothing. He holds her hand through it all and eventually, they heal one another.
This book made me laugh and squeal and almost die from second-hand embarrassment. Becca’s heart was in the right place, but her body usually wasn’t. She messed up by trying not to and she was so real for it. I absolutely love the banter and chemistry between Becca and Sully and the way they calmed one another down when necessary.

Becca and Gem Stratton are twins in looks alone. Becca is the head concierge at a swanky hotel while Gem is a social media influencer and TV host. When Gem finds herself in hot water over a social media post, Becca steps in to help her with her community service volunteering at a wildlife refuge run by Dr. Sullivan Scott.
Nineties girls who loved The Parent Trap and rugged heroes will love The Seven Day Switch! It has everything - romance, wild animals, linguistic shenanigans, an irresistible MMC who doesn't realize he's irresistible, and enough steam to heat an entire house. Reading about South Africa was a lot of fun, as was watching Becca struggle with the lingo since she'd been living in England for so long.
There were so many times when I had to read through my fingers as I clutched my face in embarrassment for poor Becca. Every time she tried to make things right for her sister, she ended up making things much, much worse...and often times in front of a church congregation. My favorite part, though, was that she and Sully (Dr. Scott) were willing to do what they did at the end for each other with absolutely no expectations from the other party, AND he could tell the difference between Becca and Gem when no one else could. Totally swoon-worthy!

Becca is an ambitious hotel concierge and has put her people pleasing skills to good use. She’s up for an award that would solidify her greatness. Things take a turn when her identical twin sister, who just so happens to be a public figure, makes a faux pa and finds herself in a bit of a pickle. Ever the loving sister, Becca comes to rescue her.
Unfortunately, Becca’s pleasing powers seem to be causing havoc instead of good and things are now a huge mess. Then she finds herself falling for the head vet, the same one who was destined to ruin her sister. With one disaster after another, Becca isn’t sure she’s going to be able to pull off this twin swap.
The twin sister swapping trope is a little irritating for me. Maybe because I just don’t think it would actually work. But in this case it was done well and I enjoyed it. The characters were all really likeable and I was rooting for Becca. She had so much gone on and she pulled through. Also the love for animals that was clearly a focal point of this book really added to my loving it. There were some laugh out loud moments and overall, it is a cute read.

The Seven Day Switch by Meg Chronis.
This was my first Meg Chronis book and it was a light read that was both cute and funny.
I loved that the setting was South Africa with bits of culture, language and animal knowledge woven into the story.
I loved the premise of the book with the twin-swap, Becca's background in hospitality and loyalty to her family. But it also broke my heart a little to see how she struggled being Gem, and how everything went wrong for her, sometimes horribly so. I would have loved to see her succeed just once. Though to get to the point of Becca finally standing up for herself I understand why it happened that way.
Sully was a good one, though often grumpy, he was also very sweet. I loved to see their relationship developing and Sully encouraging Becca to believe in herself. And of course, who could forget Ella, she was adorable with her potato. I loved Becca's scenes with Dad, and would have enjoyed more of that.
"Her people-pleasing superpower. It wasn't a superpower at all, was it? It was a symptom of her own need"
All in all a very sweet read with a relatable female main character who learns that it's perfectly okay to say no and chase her own happiness.

I wasn't expecting to love this book as much as I did! This is the first book I read by Meg Chronis and it definitely made me excited to read other books by the author.
The Seven Day Switch was a sweet, funny, entertaining and overly cute romstory.
I loved Becca! She's so sweet, genuine, loyal. She's the kindest and she always puts her family first. And she's so funny - so so so funny! All the crazy moments happening around her made me smile but gosh, how unlucky Becca's life was at times!
Dr. Sully. Sir. Aka Sullivan Scott. The handsome vet. A grump on the outside but once you get to know him, you know he has the purest and golden heart within. And his love for animals? The way he treats them? The devotion? The caring? My heart! 🥰
I loved so much how author brough super important topic as animals in wildlife. Animal trafficking. Animal extinction. I won't lie, I personally learnt so much myself from this book, and this is such an important topic that needs to be brought up more, and spoken about more.
This was the first book I ever read covering wildlife in such way, and I loved every page of it.

I absolutely LOVED this book!
The fact that it’s a romance with actual humour! 🤌🏼 And a particular scene where I felt like I wanted the earth to swallow up the FMC (Becca) on her behalf, all because of the peels in the marmalade… IYKYK 😉 I literally gasped out loud with that one and had such a giggle 😂
To be fair, the amount of times poor Becca got herself into trouble, she probably wanted the ground to swallow her up a whole lot more than just that one time 😅 I don’t think I’ve ever read a character as disastrous as her, but it made me love her more. She has a heart of gold! 💛
I loved our grumpy-sunshine MMC, Sully, so much, (his potato loving pooch too 🥹). Like, please can there be actual men out there that are as perfect as he is. I need Sully to be real!
Ok so for those considering reading this book, it’s a slow burn, closed door kind of romance. The humour, as I’ve already said, is 👌🏼 I love that it’s based in the Drakensburg Mountains in South Africa. I love how much of the South African lingo was used, along with some Afrikaans, but not in a way that might confuse non-South African readers.
I love how much of the book was focused on the animals that are native to our country, and the poaching crisis that many of them are facing! It was done is such a way that it was educational, without overpowering the main storyline.
The twin switch gave me ‘Parent Trap’ and ‘Freaky Friday’ vibes for some reason, but also, was kind of cool to see that things didn’t pan out the way they’d hoped. But lessons were learnt and I love that they owned their mistakes!

When Becca’s twin sister gets in trouble, Becca doesn’t hesitate before jumping on a plane to bail her out even if it means impersonating her and spending a week doing manual labor at an animal sanctuary . Becca may not be afraid of hard work but she may have underestimated how easily she can fill in for her celebrity sister. She also may have overestimated her ability to ignore how amazing the surly vet actually is. Mishaps major and minor cannot dim how attractive he is and how far over her head Becca has gotten.
I was really charmed by this book and I don’t usually enjoy books where the main character has constant blunders ( they make me anxious). Becca’s mistakes made me chuckle but I never worried overly much that she would get out unscathed. Adorable animals and a cranky vet are a great starting place for me in any book but I liked the growth in Becca’s relationships with her family as well as well as the way her relationship with Sully developed. I was sad to see this book end and am ready for more by the author.

The Seven Day Switch is a book where everything goes wrong for the main character. Anything bad that can happen does happen. It’ll make you sympathize with the main character, cringe with her, and most of all, give you second hand embarrassment FOR her.
I enjoyed this book. Within just the first 20 pages I immediately hated the mom and thought the celebrity sister was whiny and incompetent. When I got to the end of the book I realized that not much had changed in this two characters in regards to character development (in other words there was none).
I thought Becca and Sully were cute and their encounters cheesy, but endearing. They were the least annoying out of all the characters.
Overall, I would have to say that the writing was a bit choppy. There wasn’t much transition in it all. Suddenly she was telling Sully she was her twin, suddenly she was back in London, suddenly her twin appeared at the camp. I felt like the last 50 pages were cramped with so much stuff, but also could have been written in 10 pages… However, I really did enjoy this book and it was a nice ode to The Parent Trap.

I thought Becca and Sully were cute and their encounters cheesy, but endearing. They were the least annoying out of all the characters.
Overall, I would have to say that the writing was a bit choppy. There wasn’t much transition in it all. Suddenly she was telling Sully she was her twin, suddenly she was back in London, suddenly her twin appeared at the camp. I felt like the last 50 pages were cramped with so much stuff, but also could have been written in 10 pages… However, I really did enjoy this book and it was a nice ode to The Parent Trap.

Gem Stratton is a mega South African celebrity. But when she ends up in a scandal involving animals, the only way to make amends is to complete community service to turn things around. But she isn’t coping. So her identical twin sister Becca, a concierge in London agrees to a twin switch. Becca’s only meant to be there to complete the community service hours and get out. Simple right? Or is this every 90’s/00’s comedy a la The Parent Trap?
The pop culture references were amazing throwbacks to 90’s/00’s. This book was quick, simple and full of delicious romantic tensions! If you’re looking for your next fun, flirty, rom-com, and one fabulously set on a South African backdrop look no further! 😍 and someone turn this into a movie already?? I want to see Dr Sully in action! 😍 also cannot wait for the next book!!!! I’m not commonly a series gal, but this has me hooked!
