Don’t toss those old sneakers into the garbage! Fill them with potting soil and transform them into clever, eye-catching planters. This fun activity book features 40 inspiring projects that will have you turning faded blue jeans, worn-out sweaters, and grocery bags into beautiful and functional objects. From mobiles made from scraps of tinfoil to paint-can stilts, Laura C. Martin’s engaging projects will not only get you crafting, but help develop a heightened awareness of the importance of minimizing waste.
I had this vision, while reading this book, of people years from now becoming more creative with trash because that is all we might have to make things from. Who knows. The ideas in this book are just fun! I am glad I grew up in the 70's and 80's. Creative play was the only way in those days and days prior. Computers are cool and connect us in a virtual way, but making things from scraps of cloth? Fun! As for the education about wasteful products? I do not use paper towels! All I can see in that is a dead tree. Yes, it is okay to be that concerned about the earth.
This is an informative book, filled with different craft projects that use recycled items. The book discusses different materials, how it has been made and used throughout history, the reasons for recycling and projects that allow children to reuse the items. Artists who create pieces using different recycled materials are also highlighted.
Our oldest borrowed this book from our local library. She really likes reading craft books and she gets inspiration for her own creations.
Love this recycled Craft book....on pg 69 "what advice would you give kids who want to create art using recycled materials? Go for it!!!You can do anything you want. Just collect a bunch of stuff and put it together. Don't think too much about the final product. The fun part is just making it up as you o along." Book is full of creative ideas using recycled materials. Good for all ages. Easy step by step instructions to folllow and plenty of pictures.
My favorite part of the book was the timeline of trash, pretty cool to break down how long trash breaks down. It has cool ideas on reuses materials and it helps those creative folks to take it further.
Starts out with a description of how landfills work, and the benefits of being a recycling artist. So many projects with inexpensive materials. I want to make the dancing tin can man!
