This paper presents an empirical investigation of Common CSFs (CCSFs) of construction and software projects in Indian public sector organizations. It identifies top-10 CSFs for construction projects, top-10 CSFs for software projects, and identifies the Common CSFs (CCSFs) for both construction and software projects. The 4 common critical success factors (CCSFs) identified for both construction and software projects are Communication in the Project, Project Team Coordination, Reliability of Output, and Quality Control. Communication in the Project and External Environmental Events are the top most CSFs for construction projects; Clear Project Goal and Reliability of Output are the top most CSFs for software projects. Among Categories of success factors, Environmental Factors is identified as most significant category of success factors for construction projects; and Product Factors is identified as most significant category of success factors for software projects. One more finding of the research is Top Management Support is not identified as one among top-10 CSFs either in construction or software projects. Team Capability/Competence for construction projects and Organizational Politics for software projects are identified as least significant success factors. Organizational Factors category is identified as least significant category of factors for both software and construction projects. Table of 1. Introduction 2. Research Objectives 3.
