Opal Koboi is the best villain ever! This was by far my favorite book of the series (among the first four books). Colfer has come a long way in character development department, and for the first time, it felt like the characters were well balanced. If it wasn't for a single highly disappointing event at the beginning of the story, the would've been perfect. It's also great to see the author getting better at cliffhangers.

The series retains its high entertainment factor in this much more rollercoaster of a ride volume. Mulch is in prison. Holly and Julius remain in the LEP, Opal is in a coma, but still under arrest; and as for Artemis and Bentley - they've been mindwiped. In a slighter darker, but improved page-turning volume, Artemis and co. find themselves up against it, as they strive to save the world underneath even as they are hounded from all sides, struggles kicked off by, by far the best antagonist of the series so far - Opal!
Taking on board the aging of the original readers Colfer puts out a slightly darker more grim version, as Fowl reaches 14. The comedic value also took a jump up in this book. A delightfully entertaining series that every child would appreciate, especially Colfer's now obvious idea that any fantastical creatures would most certainly have and use modern technology 8 out of 12, fab Four Stars.

Number two, save the life of a member of another species. You can complete this task in any number of ways. Open a window to release a trapped fly. Build a birdbath in your garden. Release a mouse from a trap. Number three, acheieve a perfect score on a school test or homework assignment. In this job, you need to be smart as well as fit. Friendship isn't a science mudboy. Just do what you think is right.
This book has so much action...so much thrill...so much excitement that I couldn't stop reading. I CAN'T stop!! I am completely under the influence of this series and can't take rest till the last book.
About Opal Koboi
Opal is also very intelligent. Like Artemis. But her plans are evil. She is very hungry for POWER!!
I liked the way she is written as an evil-minded Fairy.
OVERVIEW
Opal plans to take revenge from those who stopped her rebellion in the 2nd book. She frames Holly in very serious matter.
She also tries to kill Artemis for which I was soooo angry to kill her. But Artemis, of course, is saved by his bodyguard.
As we know, Fairies had wiped the memory of their existence from Artemis' mind in the last book for a reason. So he doesn't know about them.
But he when Holly comes for his help, He gets ready to help.

One thing I didn't like that Artemis was completely blank. He didn't remember anything about his adventures with Fairies. This fact makes the book exciting but don't know why I couldn't like it that much.
If only I could remember. If only I knew what I know.

first favourite of the series.
I like Artemis's character development.
Opal was good (but sometimes, reallyyyyyyyy megalomaniac! but I think I liked her.), though I couldn't remember who she was (the problem of too long lasts to read the whole series! & not re-read, probably?) I still don't know exactly, but by some tiny google, I remembered a little about who she was.
May the next book I read sooner!
& sometimes, the stupidity of some (minor, but Umbridge like!) characters were annoying!
& too much explaining about elf technologies.
I like Holly & Foaly now, probably Artemis too, but this I shall see. (Mulch was funny too & those two poor pixies, but I won't admit anything!)

Done reading THE OPAL DECEPTION - Book 4 in Artemis Fowl octalogy. The story begins unexpectedly. I did not saw it coming, D'Arvit! Captain Holly Short needs to rescue a mind-wiped Artemis Fowl from a revengeful non-human creature, Opal Koboi. Opal is a minor character introduced in Book 2. She is a genius antagonist. Returning from a coma, multiple layers of mysteries are uncovered as she executes her master plan to destroy her equal. "Welcome back to the land of the condemned (page 162)."

Like a master at chess, Opal Koboi is a master villain that has concocted a plan with machinations that anticipate the actions of others. While she lies in a self-induced coma, she rests, but Opal has devised a revenge plot that is not contingent on her presence until completely necessary. Her intent is to make Captain Holly Short, Julius, Foaly, Artemis, and the entire Lower Elements society suffer for foiling her previous attempt at world domination.
One of the difficulties that Artemis must contend with is that his previous interactions with the Lower Elements have been erased from his memory by a mindwipe. The people believed they were protecting themselves from Artemis and humans in general, but instead have ostracized a potential ally. Early on, Julius and Holly realize that if the Lower Elements are to protect themselves from another attempt at world domination by Opal, they are going to need the help of Artemis Fowl, Butler, and Mulch Diggums.
This was a thoroughly entertaining read with some laugh out loud moments, and I think my allergies may have caused my eyes to tear. Also, this is Book #4 in the Artemis Fowl series. I don't think this should be read as a stand-alone novel.

I love this series so much.
I am always so impressed with how the author manages to raise the stakes with each and every book. The suspense was high in this one. The plot was so good and honestly, one of the best in the series so far.
I didn’t expect to see Butler included in the series as much after certain events, but I am so happy we do get more of him in this one again! I find the relationships between all of these characters to be so unique. They have changed and transformed over time and with the help of a certain trope (I loved how it was done here!), the relationship is different again and it adds another layer to the story.
But while the plot is busy and suspenseful, the book still manages to have enough funny moments to have me smiling and even laughing aloud while I am reading. ‘I thought of truffles and revenge for the past year.’ Me too honey, me too. :D
I found Opal to be such a formidable female villain. We love to see it! She is the kind of villain who is smart, so it truly looks like she might end up winning throughout reading this one. She’s down to business and also science-minded which is always interesting to see.
Eoin Colfer also manages to slip in some good moral moments among the comedy and plotline. We have a moment where sexism is discussed in Holly’s work industry. There is a moment where some characters are horrified by the use of animal fur. And there is a no smoking and no littering mention thrown in there for good measure as well.
I know I have already talked about how much I loved the characters, but I feel a need to reinstate it. Mulch, Holly, Butler and Artemis. They own my heart. I like how the series not only brings back main characters for the stories, but it even brings back side characters from time to time too, and that also works so well.
The world and magic system have already been so well established in the previous books in the series. But I love that with each book the author manages to add in a little more detail, or something new. But the something new always makes sense with what we have previously known to the world as well. It’s flawless.

Oh myyyy GOD !!! I love every character's development throughout the series. The plot line presents in how we had followed their journey so far is so heart-wrenching and emotional much. It's just so memorable and I LOVE ALL THE CHARACTERS HERE. They're all my baes <3

At the end of The Eternity Code, Artemis and Butler had their memory wiped of all things pertaining to the fairy world. Naturally, I couldn’t wait to see how our master genius would foil this. In the meantime, Opal is out and bent on revenge and destruction, and she is one angry, nasty, devious little thing. It of course takes Holly, Artemis, Butler and Mulch to deal with it :0)
Colfer has created one brilliant world and cast, and yet, he keeps re-inventing parts of it by turning the table on us, sometimes even at great cost! I’m impressed.

Oh Opal.
Okay so the second time around and I'm still shocked about how certain things went down. It was pretty predictable that Holly would somehow be the main suspect to Root's unexpected murder and I was worried that the whole gang wouldn't find a way back to one another before this book ended.
Luckily for me, and Holly I suppose, they did have a little reunion. Plus I really enjoyed everyone working together in this one. I just feel like Holly was a great addition to Artemis because she makes him better. Then there's Mulch and ugh I love him so much.
I can't wait to see how this series is going to end because I don't think I've ever read all the books.

The Opal Deception was so freaking good! I still think it's beyond weird how I never read these book when I was in school. Thank god I'm starting them now because I'm hooked and I can't wait till I get my hands on the next book in this series.
I'm so happy that I got to see my favorite character Mulch again! I'm also really happy that the whole gang is back too. Well, not everyone.. but hey I'll take what I can get. Artemis is back and I love it!
The villain is Opal, who is very intelligent. Where her character was involved I feel like I was also second guessing myself. I always thought I knew where things would be heading and then find out that I was completely wrong. Which is why I loved the little twists and turns within this book.
Holly, Butler, Mulch, and Artemis are probably my favorite group of people ever. I love how they all work so well with each other. I like how together they are stronger and smarter than any villain out there - but apart they aren't.
Besides being super happy that everyone I love is back in my life.. I mean this book. The overall outcome was just fantastic. I loved getting to see a different side of Artemis in a way because he was slowly learning back his memories. When he did remember someone it just left me overjoyed.
I seriously can't wait to dive into the next book. I definitely need more of Holly and Artemis right now!

The Opal Deception was definitely my favourite in the Artemis Fowl series back in the day. It comes off the back of a huge cliffhanger in the previous book, the stakes are higher than ever, and this book definitely continues the trend established in The Eternity Code of taking a dark turn. The previous book had serious consequences for our characters, but they were ultimately rescued from those consequences, with admittedly a large cost paid. The Opal Deception goes even darker, with consequences there’s no rescue from, and definitely throwing our protagonists out from the frying pan straight into the fire. There’s non-stop thrilling action from start to finish in this one too, and the sheer variety of scrapes and situations the characters face make this the series’ best rollercoaster of an adventure, in my opinion. And yet there is character stuff here too. A lot of the emotional tension comes from Colfer is always great at the show-don’t-tell maxim though, weaving this emotional growth into the unfolding action a bit at a time – and incidentally, keeping us reading the series by having his characters grow at a slow pace whilst the fast-paced action takes the forefront of our attention. I remember being on the edge of my seat the first time I read this. Admittedly nowadays I wasn’t quite as gripped; but of course I already knew what was going to happen, since this was a re-read.
Highly recommended to all you YA fantasy fans out there. Although the Artemis Fowl series is aimed at pre-teens, it’s definitely enjoyable for adults, and considering the state of the YA genre these days if you want something that is not set in a school, where the main character is not a special snowflake (well, aside from being precociously smart), where there are no paranormal romances or love triangles, but has genuine action, plot, and fantasy aplenty, with the added bonus of cool gadgetry – you may find what you’re looking for here.

Dies war ein absolut zufriedenstellender Reread. Lese ich Bücher noch mal? Ja, natürlich nicht jedes aber ja. Ich tue es und Artemis Fowl gehört definitiv dazu.
Da eine neue Reihe
herausgekommen ist, bei der die Geschwister von Artemis die Protagonisten sind, musste ich den ersten Band davon natürlich auch haben. Leider beschlich mich bereits nach den ersten paar Seiten das Gefühl, dass Eoin Colfer seinen Biss verloren hat und ich brach das Buch zu Gunsten des Originals erstmal ab. Nein, Artemis hat alles, was diese Reihe so genial macht. Weniger ist inakzeptabel.

Artemis Fowl begins another fantastical adventure with Captain Holly Short, Mulch the Dwarf, and Butler to save the world as we know it. I had forgotten how entertaining and truly enjoyable these books are. Shame on me. I really liked getting back into this world and reading the funny one liners the characters say to one another. The writing is hilarious and very fast-paced. There is always something important happening to keep you turning the pages, and the characters are so lovable that you can't help but cheer for them. Needless to say, I am very much looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Very Enjoyable; doesn't follow the typical 'Fowl' plot but managed to surprise me a few times. By the end, it feels more like a book that was designed to set the plot in a different direction for the future works.
Now, while this was a great page turner for me, I could not ignore that certain events and character elements happened very conveniently for the plot, and that felt a little dull.

November 23, 2018Each time I reread one of these, I'm reminded of why I loved this series when I was younger. It has fun characters, interesting stories, and is very well written.
This one started out where the last ended and still gave that bittersweet feeling. We were immediately thrown into the action and some devastating events took place. But we got our team together and were able to see them in all their glory. There was a little less Foaly this time, I think, but he still played a key role.
The ending was still bittersweet, but sets up for a lot of great things in the future. I can't wait to continue the rest of the series.
I enjoy Nathaniel Parker as the narrator for this series. He voices all of the characters very well. My only issue was his voicing of Opal, which I found a bit awkward. It was very different from what I imagined. It was still a solid performance.

well actually thus is the first book i read in this series cuz the others werent in the library and there was only the opal deception and the north and the eternity code and since me and my friend didnt know wich one was first we each took the one that seemed more interesting and really i think this one IS among the more intersting books of the series
here we see trust and friendship and we see loyalty to the good side always pays off and of course stupidity has no end!!! ( meaning the new commander) i have always loved Holy and saw her as a strong character that girls can really learn from ! there is no sign of the romantic heroin and all thise romantic stuff ( i really hate romance) i always wanted to be like Artemis BUT i always wanted to have a sister or friend like Holy!!!

Artemis po latach wciąż bawi i zachwyca! Ale nawet teraz to nie jest mój ulubiony tom. Tak naprawdę nigdy za nim nie przepadałam i mimo upływu lat i zmiany perspektywy nic się nie zmieniło :D. Nie zmienia to faktu, że rozwój postaci mocno na plus, a Opal Koboi to złoczyńca, którego nie lubisz, ale mega doceniasz za jej podły charakterek ;)

Similar to the previous one, I enjoyed this :)
I love how quick these books are, and how easily they are to get into. Aside from a few things that didn’t seem quite natural near the end, it was a solid read.
