A fantastic read into the essence of playwriting. Need some inspiration and this book served it up on a platter. My only problem was that I wanted to stop and analyze plays as I read it. A must read for any writer.

Loved this! Following Neipris's advice, I'm writing a play -- an adaptation based on a short story. I finished the first draft of the story during a working retreat in Alaska where To Be a Playwright was among the wonderful books on my hosts' shelves. A must-read for budding playwrights!
