A Day That Changed America: Gettysburg

Rate this book
It was the bloodiest battle ever fought on North American soil. In three days, more than fifty thousand Confederate and Union soldiers were killed, wounded, or captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Four months later, on November 19, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln traveled to Gettysburg to help dedicate the cemetery where row upon row of graves marked the men lost in battle. His moving speech, which took only two minites to deliver, would inspire the nation and stay in the minds and hearts of Americans forever.

A Day That Changed America: Gettysburg is an informational text. The book contains many photographs, captions and artifacts. The book also has a glossary, index, recommended reading list as well as two websites to gather further information. I liked the layout of the text as it is broken into chapters, due to the amount of text and information covered in the book I would use this in fourth or fifth grade classroom. There is a lot of helpful information, but due to the amount of information I would use this as a jigsaw or break the reading up so that we read it over the course of a few days.
