Wolfe's Lady

Rate this book
Stella Raines was looking for a change. She moved to the small town of Riverville to begin her first year of teaching history. She quickly learns that teaching in such a rural high school is no picnic, but the math teacher in the class down the hall makes her first week all the more intriguing…

Darien Wolfe is a staple of Riverville High School, with his rule-breaking hair and attire. He seems to have taught there since, well, forever. However, Darien never knew how much his long life might change until he notices the new history teacher down the hall.

Their attraction is instant and for eternity, like the stars under the full moon. But can Stella survive Darien’s secret?

When Stella Raines accepted a job teaching History in a rural high school she knew it would be a drastic change from city life. What she didn’t count on was being courted so romantically by the Math teacher down the hall. Her lunch breaks were about to become 4 star.

Darien Wolfe is captivated by Stella. Her very essence draws him. However, he holds a devastating secret he dare not share. He knows he must reveal his true self to her, but is desperately afraid she will not accept him. If she accepts him, will he be able to control his inner beast and keep her safe, even from himself.

This is a short story of love prevailing above all else. I recommend it for anyone who loves a good romance!

A nice short but sweet 50 page read. The Folk Lore concept comes alive in this short story when it comes to were-wolves, only instead of becoming a were-wolf, finding a cure to become mortal/human again is in the mix when Stella and Darien discover their love is worth losing Dariens immortality so he can age and spend the rest of his life with Stella. The romance was sweet/steamy and had a small erotica scene with good taste.

Ms. Murphy has a very interesting take on the werewolf genre. Her characters have fairly ordinary occupations; you cannot get much more average than a high school math teacher. The plot is well written and filled with romance, and the author has more than done her homework in creating her own werewolf lore. This is a sweet romance between two coworkers, one of whom just happens to be an immortal werewolf, which creates some unusual problems. The author has figured out a particularly unique solution to wrap things up nicely.

I try not to "bash" an author's work because I know that they put blood, sweat, and tears into birthing a published work.

With that said, while I appreciate Ms. Murphy twist on a werewolf tale, Wolfe's Lady was woefully lacking in substance to be a good story for me. The characters fell in love with and professed their love to each other after only two days and Stella just a wee bit too accepting of Darien's werewolfism. Now, as hard as all that was for me to believe, the pièce de résistance was the way Darien was "cured" of being a werewolf. It was just too unbelievable and I honestly think it took away from the story because it was so far-fetched. Honestly, I didn't even care what happened to the characters after that point.

Excellent book, I loved the characters and how their relationship changed from friends to love quickly, but not too fast. The way that they loved each other no matter what.
