Peter Redman has been teaching social science at The Open University for the last 25 years. During this time he has worked closely with numerous students helping them reflect on and improve their writing skills. He is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology.
A must if you are studying Social Sciences! This really helped me as I was very rusty when it came to essay-writing and I know that without this book I would not have achieved such a high grade...my partner is starting his law degree this year, so I have handed it on to him. Even though it is a book primarily aimed at Social Sciences, it has tips and advice on writing essays at university level in general too.
I picked this up because I've always struggled with writing essays and it came highly recommended by OU students. Whilst this covers everything you need to know about structure, what tutors are looking for etc, I find that it seriously overcomplicates itself. If you're looking for essay tips, you'd be better off getting a copy of The Good Study Guide and reading the writing chapters in that.
Brilliant little book for undergraduate students studying with the Open University. Some points throughout the book can seem to be a little jargon heavy however this will become clearer if you revisit the title throughout your degree.
Nice book, not much tips but its good for reading anyway as I am a writer so need to develop my skills all the time. I'll be glad if somebody recommend me some teaching books which they liked the most. You can visit my website (source ) to communicate with me.
