Eyewitness account of the Tiananmen massacre where the world watched in horror as government troops opened fire on thousands of democracy campaigners in Tiananmen Square in Beijing
4.5 stars, this book was amazing. It really gave me an in depth look at the Tiananmen Square Massacre from the point of view of the people who experienced it. My only issue was that it kept having large photos on some pages and that disrupted the flow of the book.
"Children of the Dragon" was a very informative, very emotional
The only cons I have for this book are pretty much formatting issues. The petty one I have to mention is that the copy I got from the library was obscenely huge (and worn) so I had to sit it down on a table to read so the spine didn't rip in half. The serious complaints are that sometimes a speech or testimony would be put in the middle of a passage, completely interrupting the flow and confusing me, and also that a decent amount of the full page photos had no caption describing what was happening. In most cases it was pretty obvious what was going on, but some of the photos were a bit blurry and I also wanted to know if the people in the photo were the student leaders or regular participants.
Overall I think this was a phenomenal book. I learned so much in what I think is a relatively short book considering how big the font was and how many photos were included. If you're curious at all about the Tiananmen Square Massacre then you absolutely need to read "Children of the Dragon."
