About the author

Catherine has sold over 3 million bestselling novels worldwide and is translated into eighteen languages.

The first of these novels Catherine started under the desk when she worked as an advertising copywriter. She was duly fired. With time on her hands, she persevered with the novels, which happily flourished.

In the early days she produced a baby with each book - but after three - stuck to the writing as it was less painful.

She writes with her favorite pen in note books, either in the garden or on a sofa.

Home is a rural spot on the Hertfordshire border, which she shares with her family and a menagerie of horses, cows, chickens, and dogs, which at the last count totaled eighty-seven beating hearts, including her husband. Some of her household have walk-on parts in her novels, but only the chickens would probably recognize themselves.

All her novels are published by Penguin Random House internationally, and by No Shooz Publishing in America and will be available in the US in the Fall of 2017.

I read this book in a few hours, it was about 9 years ago on holiday. I sat at the pool and caused lots of strange looks as it was so laugh out loud funny! They were queuing up for it after I finished it,my daughter, then her husband, then it was a free for all, lots downloaded it onto their kindle!They all loved it. I read plenty of books, at least 2-3 a week, it’s still my most favourite book ever.

God what an irritating book. Things keep happening to Rosie Meadows, recent divorcee and mother of one after she decides to leave her husband and move into a little cottage of her own and start life over again. The first part of the book is really insightful while it talks about Rosie's take on her marriage and regrets, but the rest degenerates into incidents spurred by psychological and sexual repression leading up to an eventual rescue at the hands of a strong and silent man. Also a detective story, murder mystery, family drama and romance. Really really pissing off that Rosie never thinks for herself or stands on her own two feet in spite of being told to by nearly everyone in her family. If she had a little bit the book would have been way more enjoyable

Rosie Meadows Regrets - by Catherine Alliott

It is a long time since I read any of Alliott's books, but this one came recommended by Melanie Jones, a Goodreads author, whose book "L'Amour Actually" is one of my 2013 favourites. Anything recommended by Melanie has to be worth a look, and I was not disappointed.

RMR is a romp of a read, funny, engaging, thoughtful and witty, with laugh aloud humour and enough zany madness to keep me turning pages well after midnight. I have lots to do, but could not put this book down. Thanks, Mel, you have restored my faith in chic lit.

This is a light frothy and quite witty read. Of all the chick lits I read in my wayward youth this one is one that sticks out because of the humor. I doubt I'll re-read it - the only chick lit author I've re-read in recent years is Marian Keyes and to be honest it bugs me that she's labelled as a chick lit writer because she's so much more.

If you want an easy, light, enjoyable fluff read for the beach you could do worse than this.

Eerlijk is eerlijk, dit soort boeken lees ik vaak zomers, in de tuin, in de zon, omdat het simpele boekjes zijn met een heel erg pretentieus verhaal en einde. Dit keer was het einde pretentieus, maar was het verhaal toch nog zeer origineel en spannend! Ik vond het een erg leuk boek om te lezen en vanaf het midden wilde ik niet meer stoppen, dan legde ik het weg en pakte het 5 minuten later weer op!

Heel leuk, vlot, humoristisch, en het gaf mij een lach op mijn gezicht! Oh Rosie....!

I have read this book a number of times and will almost certainly read it again. Is it believeable and serious? No. Thank goodness for that. Sometimes it is good to read something which is entertaining and funny like comfort food for the brain. If you are looking for a searing insight into relationships this is not the book for you but if you want a funny, sometimes sad but always entertaining read then this is ideal.

A fun, frothy, at times silly but at other times insightful light-hearted romantic comedy. I really liked it. There were lots of laugh out loud moments. There was an actual PLOT! The characters were fun and yes, over the top, but so what? This isn't trying to be literary fiction, just an amusing story and it was.
No sex, a fair amount of angst. I'd have liked a bit more from the 'hero' but when a book is told in the first person, it's rather limiting. But one of my favourite Catherine Alliot's.

This is a light romantic read that unfortunately has not aged well. I was put off by two rapey male characters whose behaviour is tacitly endorsed by the author. In one case, the romantic prospect who continues to kiss and grope the heroine after she says no is simply enthusiastic. The second incident is correctly named as attempted rape - but the wider implications of this behaviour are never examined. Rather, the poor bloke was just drunk and depressed...

A pathetic woman who has made stupid and weak decisions, who can’t assert herself to simply speak up and grow her confidence and then falls in love with a married man… and the book labels this as “romantic” when that very same character is ironically so appalled at discovering someone else in her life has been having an affair. I found this book a sad representation of the weakness of many people and it’s not funny, witty or even mildly entertaining.

Honestly I quit this halfway through. It was quite good for the first half. I really enjoyed Rosie’s thoughts and struggles living with the husband that she shouldn’t have married. But then after a convenient turn of events, it turns into a big standard romance novel and lost all appeal. Shame that.

This was an entertaining read but didn’t quite hit the mark compared to other novels I’ve enjoyed by this author. I was never really convinced by Rosie. Would a trained chef be quite so ditzy? Some of the scenes were over-egged with the humour a bit too slapstick for my taste. The ending was rather rushed but everyone got their happy ever after.

good british humour - enjoyed it thoroughly. was a fun read. loved the character's strength even though she does not know it - pretty much like a solid home maker which is the toughest job in the whole wild world. the fact that she is most trusting and believes the good in everyone. but then finally some sense prevails along the way.

Total escape reading--a murder mystery about a young English widow with all sorts of absolutely improbable adventures as she muddles her way through life. Fun and light.

It was also written before everyone had a cell phone (1998), so there's no text messaging or internet involved which is nice for a change.

This book is one of my all time favourites! It had me in stitches 70% of the time, and the romance was yummy. I loved the cozy countryside lifestyle and the dash of mystery that came with it. I read this nearly 8 years ago yet it still sits in my top 10 favourites of all time
