Henry Wallace, now a fugitive, and narrowly escaping death in Denver, is on his way to Cheyenne with Samantha in her medicine wagon. The pair discover a farm house with a man dying under suspicious circumstances and the wife refuses Henry's help as a doctor. Samantha gets into big trouble with the law in Cheyenne and Henry goes to great lengths to bail her out. He risks life and limb during a free-for-all in which the last man standing gets the $400 prize money. Henry must depend on his prowess as a boxer to save himself when he is involved in a battle of intense brutality. The battle is the most terrifying and brutal experience of Henry's life. This is book number two of a continuing series. If you liked THE FUGITIVE, you'll love this series!
Gary McCarthy is the author of fourteen American historical novels and thirty-four westerns published by many of New York's major publishing houses. He has over three million books in print and continues to research and write his Canyon Country novels.
Growing up with horses and living in California, Nevada and Arizona, Gary is well suited to writing about the American West. He received his B.S. degree in Animal Science and an M.S. in Agricultural Economics. He has a keen interest in Native American cultures, especially the Hopi, Navajo, Havasupai and Haulapai who live in Northern Arizona.
Gary and his wife Jane live in Arizona and have often ridden horses and hiked in the Kaibab and Coconino National Forests. Gary is always looking for new stories set in the American West and considers the research to be among his most favorite pursuits.
Ryan Trahan is going to all 50 states in 50 days to raise money for st jude. i'm reading a book set in each state he goes to.
This is the book i picked for Wyoming! this western was awesome! crazy entertaining. i havent read book 1 yet but boy do i want to! after reading book 2 probably 😆 but i didnt get lost despite not reading the first book! the characters were so distinct and real feeling. the story reminded me of the Cheney Duvall series by Lynn Morris which I also read for the first time for this challenge!
If ur a fan of clean westerns id highly recommend this!
The only problem with this book is its formatting. A decent copy editor could do wonders for its readability. McCarthy can tell a good story but this doesn't look like a professional's work.
Using learned facts and logic to combat disease and ignorance is a winner every time. When the attempt is also endangered by the past of the doctor adds spice!
The doctor saved two women, one he sent home to Illinois, and the other traveled with him, intent on selling snake oil. She was 14 and her father had been killed, leaving her with 4 mules and a medicine wagon. As they traveled in Wyoming, she continually got in trouble as she was also a pickpocket. They finally come to a town that has typhoid. The story of fear, bravery, corruption, and death make a fascinating tale of the west as it was settled. For anyone who loves western stories.
