Mary Beacock Fryer is a well-known expert on Upper Canadian history and has written many biographies, including a trilogy on the Simcoe family: Elizabeth Posthuma Simcoe, Our Young Soldier, and John Graves Simcoe. Among Fryer's other books are Bold, Brave, and Born to Lead and Buckskin Pimpernel. She lives in Toronto.

Excellent book about life of a Loyalist family fleeing for their lives to Canada. Enduring hardships, struggles, incredible challenges, would be a great book for younger ones to read about life in the early days of settling Canada.

This book is an amazing adventure, I got sucked into this book just staying in to read. I had to pry myself out of the book in order to stop reading. This book is an amazing thrilling adventure of a family escaping to Canada during the american revolutionary war.

I read this aloud to my boys (9, 7, and 5), and it was a good complement to our studies about the United Empire Loyalists.
