My favorite Microbiology text, I particularly like its art/illustrations. However it is an advanced text and probably not the best for novice students - it can get a bit highly detailed at times and its organization could be better, particularly when it chooses to introduce new concepts/vocabulary.
Update: currently reading this for my upper-level Microbial Ecology class.
Textbook for my 300-level microbiology class. Incredibly detailed (too detailed for the scope of my class) but the pictures and diagrams are excellent and this will probably be a good resource for upper-level microbiology classes.
Actually I read the 8th edition, but no matter - Brock's Biology of Microorganism is a musthave Bible for students of microbiology. Highly authoritative.
Mostly superficial. I haven't read all of it, but as a textbook used in a lab course, it could do much better work in explaining and elaborating and not just summarizing (and not very accurately) banal ideas. It was also not very easy to find my way in it.
UBC, Micb 300 + 401 - Microbial Ecology, Environmental Micb Techniques. Nice images. Text are a little on the simple side, doesn't go into too much depth. Not very much useful for advance Micb courses, but i guess would be a good general guide.
this is my text book. i really like this book because it's so colorful. it makes me forget for moment about the difficulty of microbiology, the subject that i'm currently learning.
I particularly appreciate how this textbook is organized. A very logical progression is followed from beginning to end and includes excellent examples of concepts and references to active and advancing studies in the field.
