Albeit intresting at times, I found jung to be a drag. Archetypes, the anima and the animus, and many of the other concepts are not really touched on super in depth here. Mostly, as the title suggests, your hearing about Jungs dreams, among other random cherry picked experiences in his life. He goes into his relationship with Freud, which was awesome, and his travels are great. Also his time describing some of intresting clients he had over the years was a treat. But mostly, your going to be hearing dream analysis, and large reports on his eccentricities. It gets boring after awhile. A lot of his self perception paints himself as though he is tuned into a greater spiritual ether. He tried so desperately to match that ether into physical reality. By the end of the book, although he doesn't admit it, you get a sense that hes disappointed that he failed in doing this. Sure his inner world is intense and beautiful, and his mapping of the subconscious is amazing, but theres a sense of a desire for some grand spiritual truth to be revealed. Spoiler alert, there isnt one. Its just Carl jungs vivid mind laid bare. You will definetly get to know Carl through his perspective here. Theres moments of dense and intresting ideas espoused, but idk. Its to dense for a casual read at times, and its to light for a more serious exploration of his ideas. Perhaps ill read another one of his more academic books in the future, but at this point im thrilled to be done.
Very interesting and a good general overview of Carl Jungs life. Especially interesting from the aspect of understanding his mind- thought processes that led to his theories and events shaping his life.
