Star Wars Roleplaying Game (D20)

The Force Unleashed Campaign Guide

Rate this book
Unleash the Force and fight the Empire.

The Emperor has swept away the last vestiges of the Old Republic. Darth Vader and his dark apprentice hunt down the surviving Jedi one by one, but a few escape capture and find refuge on backwater worlds. Fewer still reach deep into the Force, unleashing powers beyond their wildest imaginings. Meanwhile, other brave heroes rise to oppose the tyranny of the Empire, heralding the birth of the Rebellion.

This campaign guide draws its inspiration from The Force Unleashed, a revolutionary new video game from Lucasfilm, Ltd. It presents a complete campaign setting during the period between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope. The guide offers exciting new character options and Force powers for players as well as adventure content, campaign seeds, and ready-to-play adversaries for Gamemasters.

This supplement is designed for use with the Star Wars Roleplaying Game Saga Edition core rulebook.

An extremely strong entry into the Star Wars supplement book niche, this book tells you basically everything you'd need to know for a Star Wars campaign set in "The Dark Times". If you're into Star Wars d20 and this era in particular, this is a book still worth picking up. It comes stuffed to the gills with stat blocks, some new weapons, ships and vehicles, and a huge amount of new Force powers. This also comes alongside new prestige classes, new races, and a lot of great information in the middle of the book about how to run an organization in the game, and how organizations can fight each other with simple mechanical rules to do so. Great supplement which sparked many ideas for my campaign!

Some might be turned off by this source book's video game tie-in. That'd be too bad, because this book is really a "Dark Times" source book, covering the period between the end of the Clone Wars and the start of the Rebellion era, when the Empire is at its strongest. I particularly enjoyed the "organization" rules, which provide a framework for creating groups that players can join, advance in, and ultimately use to further their own ends.

In a time when direct confrontation against the empire likely means instant death, being able to draw upon an organization to protect yourself (or indirectly attack your enemies) is a great resource, and one easily transported to other Star Wars eras. The details about the empire, including its government and military forces, are great, and good for anyone running a Dark Times or Rebellion era (or even New Republic) game.

The various "unleashed" feats and Force powers are too overwhelming for general consumption in my campaign, but I can see using them for notable villains or exceptional NPCs who need to be a cut above your typical antagonists.

All in all, a good, if not essential, source book.

A good solid campaign supplement. It contains new alien races, new worlds, new villains, new good NPCs to help out. It also has a section on creating organizations and adding them to your campaign. In addition, you have new talents and feats, new starships, new vehicles, and new equipment.

Lots of adventure ideas for running a game set from Revenge of the Sith until Yavin.

Overall, an interesting read and useful to the Star Wars game.

One of the best campaign guides in the set for this game. Set in the mysterious dark times era between Episode III and Episode IV, this book is all you need to run a Star Wars game under the oppressive and watchful eye of the Empire.
