In our 20s we make the most significant and formative decisions of our entire lives. We decide what career to choose and whom to marry, how we will spend our money, where we will live, what type of people we will surround ourselves with, and generally what will be the guiding force(s) of our lives. Ironically, these choices are made at a time when the most wisdom is needed but the least is possessed. As a 30-year-old Christian who has sought God's leading in making many of the above decisions, Colin Creel sets out to share both what he's learned as well as the advice of some older, wiser men and women who can look back with discernment of the life-molding decisions all twentysomethings face. By addressing such topics as romance, work, friendship, character development, and spiritual formation, this devotional book offers life-changing daily tidbits of wisdom for the searching Christian twentysomething.
I received this book as a Christmas present- one among many book titles I was going to dump for 'later'; but then I turned the first few pages and then some more, finding me amazing treasures! This book, I recommend with all my heart to all twentysomethings!! I'm not completely done reading the book yet, but I needed to put it out here: GO READ PERSPECTIVES.
Here's one of my favorite paragraphs from the 'Seasoned Advice' section: 'Focus on what the Lord has put before you right now, be faithful to fulfill His call for you right now. When it's time to look up on the horizon to see what the Lord is bringing your way, He will tell you to look up and get ready for what lies ahead. Until then, be faithful and purposeful to find your significance in doing our best to fulfill God's call on your life RIGHT NOW' #Bestbooks2016 #Godspeaksto20somethings
This is such a practical, down to earth book that I have found particularly helpful in my ministry to seniors in college. However, I have gained a lot from it personally as well. The author writes in his early 30's about life in his 20's. There are various chapters on all kinds of issues and at the end of each chapter, he includes "seasoned advice" from all kinds of people in all different professions and of all ages. He asks what their 20's were like, and what they would have done the same or differently.
It was nice to get a guy's take on things for a change. Not that this book is gender specific, but most of the books of this type are written by women.
The stories are short. The instructions are precise. The wisdom is vast. The argument is profound. The chapters are short. The reading is easy.
You get to check your life again and weigh your decisions better as you move ahead. In the end what counts would be what you have really truly done with you life and how much God has been able to move through you.
