This biography of one of the leaders of Ireland's 1916 Rising deals with Connolly s activities as soldier, agitator, propagandist, orator, socialist organizer, pamphleteer, trade union leader and insurgent. It traces the evolution of his thinking as social democrat, republican, revolutionist, syndicalist, revolutionary socialist, and insurrectionist. The book covers his years in Edinburgh, Liverpool, America and Ireland, and is based largely on Connolly s prolific writings in 27 journals and in some 200 letters. On May 12, 1916, he was executed in Kilmainham Jail in Dublin.
An ok book about the life of James Connolly, using a lot of letters and other writings he did, to tell his life story. Sometimes things get all jumbled up with no true chronological order, and some tangents here and there. The book could have ended after his execution as well, and not so much with reflections from others, I feel this took away from his life story a bit. I learned a lot from reading this, but honestly it could have been written better.
