This book is a paradigm shifter. This book strips back man made religion back to the source. It's beautiful. It struck within me a chord I want to hear again and again; the love of a God who died for me. The love of a God who is well versed in the realm of pain. A God who cries when I cry, and is hurt when I hurt.
I will read this book again.

Asscherick's writing style suits him - short but eloquent, and very to the point. It was a bit rough for me, just out of a heap of flowery 19th-century literature, to get used to his punching, one-sentence paragraphs, however. Once I was in the book though? Stunning work. A brilliant addition to the stacks of theodicies, this one focused on ( you guessed it!) the pain of God.
Also. That graphic design. Do you see that graphic design. Why aren't all theology books as elegant and attractive. Please.

David's Asscherick's God in Pain is a theodicy- a defense of God- of the long debated "problem of pain". If there is a God why evil? I throughly enjoyed the book for the arguments presented. They were linear and easy to follow. Although, I didn't agree with all of the reasoning David used, I could follow his line of thinking and that made the reading easy and relevant. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting an Adventist perspective on the problem of pain as David quotes from EGW extensively. Overall, a great biblical perspective book that I enjoyed and will most likely read again.

There is a question that many of us ask often and that is “why do we suffer if God is all-powerful, all-loving and all-knowing?” .. In this book God in pain David Asscherick seeks to answer that question. I give this book 5 stars because l found the answer to that question after reading this book. l could not read this book as a novel, l had to read it a chapter a day because it has some deep biblical insights that l had to take time to think about and process. I would recommend this book to anybody who is struggling with the same question,. and l am sure we all are. David Asscherick does a great job in explaining popular bible texts from a new perspective, this book is thought – provoking and if you want to strengthen your Christian Faith and understand the reason why we are still here, suffering as we are and where God is through out,. this is the book for you. The only down-side for me would be the complicated words he uses, l had to constantly pull out my dictionary,. l guess that is a good thing, l learnt a lot of new words… You can read the rest of my review here; http://www.womensetapart.com/god-in-p...
