A firehose of information. I read it for class. On its own it would be too much

This was my first thorough introduction to the history of Christian thought and, more generally, to the history of Christianity.

I found Gonzalez's work to be carefully organized, engaging, and readable--all essential characteristics for a work of this magnitude for a general audience! After reading this introductory text, I'm eager to learn more about some of thinkers and will undoubtedly consider reading more by Gonzalez in the future.

Good account of Christian history.

“Christianity is not an ethereal, eternal doctrine about God’s nature, but rather it is the presence of God in the world in the person of Jesus Christ.”

Not an easy read for me.

If I had not read this book alongside Tony Lane's book on Christian Thought I would probably have not learned much. Or would have had to read it more than once.
