I was surprised to see so many negative comments on this book. I actually liked it and I really felt for Dylan and Rachel and understood their circumstances. However, the legend of the apple seems too much of a fairy tale and that would be one thing that probably put me off a little. The other thing I noticed was that there were a few grammatical mistakes. I am not sure if this is because it is from the kindle version, however, I believe whether kindle or reading the book, the contents should be the same.
Barbara Freethy’s writing and stories reminds me a lot of Lesley Pearse. However, Lesley Pearse books are really thick but you don’t feel like putting them down and the story and drama is fantastic. Freethy’s are a little more mild but it’s great finding an author within the same genre since Lesley Pearse is for some reason not popular in the States.

This was a huge disappointment. There were many things that I didn't like about this book, leading with the fact that I didn't like most of the primary characters, including Rachel. Most everyone was selfish and deceitful. I did feel like I "got" the point of the story, but just didn't enjoy reading about it. Much of the conflict was over-wrought and not credible to me. What was wrong with these people??? Didn't ANYBODY communicate???? I never believed that Gary was cheating on Rachel and resented that it felt like we were being led that way so there could be a surprise twist. I felt that both Carly's and her family's issues with her painting due to her pathetic excuse of a mother was also over written. I liked Dylan, but he wasn't enough to save this for me.

I stayed up very late reading this book. I agree that it wasn't hard to figure out Gary's secret, but it was a sweet book. It was hard for me to put it down. Figuring out Gary's secret did not detract from the book. Perhaps the author wanted the reader to know the secret.

her husband died when his car went off the road on the way to lake tahoe but no one knew why he was going there. the insurance wouldnt pay
she got his friend to look into what happened and he bonded with her son and is building the dream house she started with her husband. it was actually his dream house.
they found out her husband was on the way back from his x girlfriend that he met in europe before he met his wife. she had gotten preg which he never knew, she couldnt find him. but her daughter found him. he was going to tell his wife but got in a car accident on the way home
his best friend finally told her he was the one that ate the apple. they fell in love. she was going to move to the city with him so her genius son could go to a better school there. i dont know what happens with the dream house...

Romance is not my usual preferred reading genre, but when my mother recommended it to me...well, she's my mother so it was more like a directive.
Since I'm not a typical romance reader, that might influence my lower rating and review. This was very much a typical romance. The plot had some nice twists and the characters were very believable. As a reader, you wanted the happy ending.
In the story, Rachel is reeling after her husband's unexpected death and turns to his lifelong best friend Dylan. She wants Dylan to help her determine if Gary, her husband, committed suicide or was just the victim of an untimely accident. Dylan and Rachel have an unresolved drama between them with years of angst and yearning. Can Rachel overcome her widow's remorse to love again? Will Dylan be able to place his heart up for grabs again? Will Gary's secret tear them apart?
If that last part sounded a bit cheezy, that was my problem with most of the book. It is clearly a serial romance, written to a set of specifications with a few surprises and twists thrown in. The surprises aren't shocking, though. Also, the characters were generally unlikeable. Both seemed extremely selfish and their emotions varied so wildly, I wasn't for sure from one moment to the next what each wanted.
So, Mom, sorry. You stick to your reading pile, and I'll stick to mine.

Dylan has always loved Rachel, even when he was Gary's wife. Gary was his best friend, they grew up together, ran a company together, even fell in love with the same woman together. Until one faithful day where Gary died. The insurance company wouldn't pay up, they said it was suicide. Even worse, Rachel found evidence that her deceased husband could be cheating on her. When she asked Dylan for help because she has no where to turn to, they begin an adventure, venturing into Gary's past and their own.
I thought the book was just okay, honestly I felt like I was going to fall asleep through some of it. I was bored fricken stiff. Like it wasn't completely horrible but the book was down right obvious for twist, turns and plot. I called it all the way through it. Definitely not a book I'd read again.

Rachel and Dylan love found its way
What an emotional rollercoaster. To love and to have loss and to find love again. With so many secrets it's only love that could bind. Freethy, carefully crafted Love Will Find A Way, with Rachel and Dylan playing key rolls. After losing Gary and having to cope with uncertainty, it was interesting to see how the past would shape the future. You will feel ever emotional with this story because it touches at the core of the unknown. Is love enough? What are you willing to sacrifice for love? With sub characters Carly and Travis, it was easy to see that love hits you when you least expected it.

Well it was a fast read. Took WAY too long going over and over the same emotions without much progress. Kind of anti-climactic. I guessed the "secret", so it wasn't overly original. I didn't really connect with any of the characters. They seemed like caricatures of real people - everything was exaggerated.

I found this book on the Amazon Free Kindle list.... being free you never know, but this was a real surprise.... good story line, a couple of twists you didnt really see coming, nice way the story came around to the ending.....

Loved It! The first night reading I stayed up until 4am. I could not put this book down. I read it so fast that I may decide to go back and read it again. Great story.

A solid read with a HEA for all involved. The outcome was evident from early on, but the book still had a good deal of cute or good scenes that lead to the HEA. The apple orchard is described beautifully and made me want to go visit one. I was confused by the ending...I mean who is going to run it now?
The communication between sisters drove me batty in this book and so did the angst between Dylan and Rachel. I got it at first, But it was drawn out for over 2/3 of the book. With that said, drawing it out did allow for some great scenes such as finding out who actually ate the apple, the story of the apple, etc.
While not my favorite book from BF, it still is a good and fun read. I look forward to reading more books from her!

Rachel goes on a quest to discover what was happening in the last days of her husband's life and as with most quests the journey is not without its dangers. She asks the one man she is reluctant to engage, Dylan. Gary Tanner had secrets and Rachel preferred to wear blinkers and see only what she wanted to see. A few wise words scattered within the story, no one is a saint and everyone has secrets. The unfolding story is interesting and a bit on the repetitive side but well written overall. Romance dances between Dylan and Rachel throughout. I enjoyed Carly's character. An enjoyable read.

Another amazing suspenseful novel ..
I have often wished I possessed the talent to bring people to life through the pages of a book...regretfully I do not have an ounce of ability to write fiction...This is another good book by a most talented story teller...read and enjoy....I have yet to be disappointed with the twenty four books I have read and looking forward to number twenty five....

Love will find away! Usually does in a way. This was a tragic story about a woman who husband died on his way home to her. Left her with an 8 year old son. His best friend has always been in love with Gary's wife.
In this story there are a lot of questions about Gary's accident and some things in his past.
I skipped over some of the story,(Rachel) but continue to finish the book.

This is a great romance with a mystery thrown in just to make it interesting. Rachel Tanner, the widow of Dylan’s best friend, asked Dylan to help her prove that her husband’s car wreck was indeed an accident not suicide as the insurance company claimed. Unfortunately it was very hard for Dylan to be with Rachel because he had true feelings for his best friend’s wife and had been avoiding her for nine years. This is a very good story that might surprise you.

I actually didn't mind this book. I know some aspects were a bit strange but it takes all types of characters to make the world go round and not all characters in a book can be perfect and saccharine sweet. These characters all had flaws and made wrong choices, but I still enjoyed the overall story. The apple legend, it's just a bit of fun fiction and didn't take away from the overall story.

Barbara Freethy excels at creating characters and situations that come alive in her stories. This captivating narrative was brimming with emotional turmoil and an unexpected mystery that drew me into the lives of this little community. I thoroughly enjoyed the legend of "Lady Elaine" and the picturesque scenery of the Wood's valley. Great Story! Very Enjoyable!!!!!

Wonderful love story
I love Barbara Freethy's books. The stories are always good. This one particularly captured my attention. I found the characters compelling. The secondary story about Carly was good too. I highly recommend this book as well as all of Barbara's books.

Loving your best friend’s wife is not my favorite romantic trope. Throw in magic apples and some questionable behavior by the now deceased husband and it goes on and on. It was good but not a plot line I liked.

The magic Apple worked, just a few years and one marriage later! Rachel and Dylan's story was bitter sweet. A death had to occur in order for their happily ever after.

Great story!
I enjoyed how characters were real people with flaws, because none of us are perfect. Also enjoyed how naturally the story flowed.
