Darren "Dags" McConnell's life is far from normal—not everyone sees and talks to ghosts—but none of his life experiences prepare him for what's to come. After he receives a set of magical summoning marks on his palms as part of an initiation into a Ceremonial Magic group, Dags becomes the target of the group's leader, whose nefarious plans to bring his wife's spirit back from the Abysmal plane would also bring about Dags' death. A bungled spell and Dags' tattoos become gateways of the Abysmal and Ethereal planes, and host to a pair of Familiars who bring with them knowledge of a powerful grimoire. A book, in a witch's hand, that will irrevocably change him forever.

Well, i do not know if her next book with Zoe if she should write the story from the person's point of view, meaning all books are from Zoe's thoughts and feelings of what is going on but this book was a bit different. Mostly this book was about Dags and how he became the guardian with two familiars as his side kick/protectors. It is written from his point of view but near the middle to the end some chapters were written from Rhonda's view point. I was glad to see Zoe, Rhonda, Joe, Jemma and Nona in the story. I got a better feeling for how much Dags likes or is in love with Zoe how deep those feeling go and how Rhonda was aware of it only person not yet it Zoe.

But the story mainly is about how he joined this group and the leader was crazy. He did some terrible things which you have to read the story to find out. He and his familiars find a way to stop him and almost.......

But I enjoyed this ebook very much and definitely have a better understanding of Dags.

Every book has typos and wrong word choices. This book, however, had enough that it often took my focus off of the story. This is something I didn't expect, the series is pretty solid as a whole. Very annoying, though. It was fun to see another characters pov through the series thus far but I wasn't able to get into the book. Dags did have a voice of his own, definitely distinct from Zoe.
