After reading the first book in the Forsaken Brethren series I had to know what happened to Alex. Boy am I glad I did, the story was steamy the Vampires were sexy and good won out over evil. Everything you could ask for in a short read.
Alexandria and Salvatore, what a passionate love story ❤️ They are Vampires. She has had a hard time accepting her immortality. Salvatore is also a vampire, he and Alex crossed paths. His twin brother is evil and seeks the beautiful Alex’s life. While protecting Alex from his brother, he learns so much about her. She has a gift of transporting back in time. They get to know each other in every way. This is a great read and I’m still waiting for word by the author book 3!
Heart of Vesuvius is the second book in the Forsaken Brethren Series. Luciano is Alexandria’s enemy and he is determined to end her. She knows she can stand against Luciano on her own, and is thrust to the last place she wants to go – to the ancient vampire Salvatore, who is her enemy’s brother.
When I first began reading this novella I was very much intrigued by the chemistry between Alexandria and Salvatore. The relationship felt like an epic tug of war full of mixed emotions. I was into the story, but felt that although the story could stand alone I was missing out by not reading the prequel. I still feel that way in one sense, and I definitely plan on reading that first book.
I must say that I was enjoying the story with the character chemistry, action, and danger. Though I have read books much the same in the sense they were good reads that entertained me, but they didn’t have that “moment” that brought it all together. I don’t want to give too much away to the reader, but I will say in the last half of the book Purington gave me my moment. The incorporation of a true historical event that centered on the main characters left me with a feeling of awe. Her descriptiveness of the time was striking and moving. It was at this point the story became so much more for me.
I really hope that the series continues, because I am definitely on board to read more from Purington. Fans of the vampire genre will certainly enjoy curling up with this novella.

This is the second book in the 'Forsaken Brethren' series by Sky Purington, begun in 'Darkest Memory'. Both are perfect 'stand alone' reads, although I'll bet if you read one, you'll be desperate to read the other!
The story begins with action and builds to a thrilling climax. It's a fast and gripping read. Although I have to be honest and say vamps are not usually my favourite beings in fiction, Salvator and Alex are such charismatic characters I instantly related to them and wanted to know more about them. The two main characters from 'Darkest Memory', Calah, and Alex's brother, Gabriel, are worthy supporting characters in 'Heart of Vesuvius.' The scenes from which the book takes its title, the destruction of Pompeii, are both powerful and moving and the hapless Robert, a very minor character to start with, turned out to be far more interesting than he first appeared and I found myself rooting for him too.
The sexual tension between Salvator and Alex sizzles, even while they battle deadly danger in the form of Salvator's evil brother, Luciano.
If you like a great romantic paranormal adventure, with sex that's sizzling without being too graphic, and mystery and excitement in abundance, I can thoroughly recommend 'Heart of Vesuvius' - a Five Star read!
Sky Purington really does an outstanding job in this novella. This vampire romance grabs you and keeps you riveted until the very end. I couldn’t put it down. If you love paranormal or vampire stories, this is one to read.
The chemistry between Alexandria and Salvatore sizzles. If you like it hot, you’ll love this book.
