Love Bites #3

A Wolf's Pride

Rate this book
Life should be simple after a wolf finds his mate but Ryan is quickly coming to see that love is never simple. Chloe’s humanity does nothing to change the plans he’d made for himself decades ago but her refusal to believe he exists is a problem he hadn’t planned for. Determined to have his mate, Ryan thrusts her into his world but danger quickly comes to surround her as foes both new and old make themselves known. It doesn’t take long for Chloe to realise that the creature that has her has many all too human flaws. As her hatred thaws into like and like blossoms into love, the unanswered questions about Chloe’s roots come to the surface and threaten not only Ryan’s life but the existence of all werewolves. With the power to change the fate of all wolves will Chloe turn her back on all she’s ever known to embrace a life with Ryan or will his pride push her away and condemn them both?“And if I say I won’t go with you?”His lips formed into a thin line at the very idea that she would refuse his request, preferring to stay with the murderers that likely made up her family. “You don’t get a say in the matter.”“You realise what you’re planning is illegal, it’s called kidnapping.”“I’m well aware of that. Don’t worry, I’ve done this before.”“I don’t want to go anywhere with you,” she informed him stubbornly.“Chloe, love, don’t be difficult.”“I’m not your love,” she snapped.“Chloe, you either pack for yourself or I do it for you but I won’t know what’s important enough to take with you.”She folded her hands across her chest and looked him directly in the eye, stubbornness embossed upon her features. “I’m not going to play an active part in my kidnapping.”“Fine, if that’s going to be your attitude then we’ll just have to do things the hard way.” There was nothing overtly threatening in his statement but her body shivered nonetheless. What exactly is he planning?

It all began with a simple book and it's been so long now that I can't even remember what it was called, but all it took was one story and I was hooked to reading. One book after another, until my eyes hurt and my wrists ached from turning pages. My poor wrist didn't get any respite when I decided to pick up a pen and paper and begin writing stories of my own. After completing my first book, A Wolf's Duty, I was well and truly hooked. The love of crafting a tale, of creating a world filled with heroes and heroines that you could love and grow with was truly embedded in me.

I live in London and as any city dweller will tell you, a fast paced life does not make it easy to find time to write but seeing so much of the world around you does give you inspiration to create characters that are truly human, people that you want to read about because you've fallen in love with them.

I love fantasy and all things paranormal and my stories reflect this, bringing elements of the extraordinary into the lives of my characters. When I write, the sky truly is the limit because in a world crafted by my imagination anything is possible. Isn't that the creed of all romance? If it isn't well it's certainly something I aspire to...even if there are some rather unexpected obstacles in the way but that's just another joy of writing.

This is the 3rd book in the series and this story revolves around Ryan and his mate Chloe.... his very HUMAN, sassy mate who doesn't believe in werewolves!

Ryan is at a loose end after his brother and cousin have recently found their mates. He’s starting to feel left out and is desperate to find his mate. After another failure when female wolves are presented to him, he leaps at the chance to go to the city on Clan business just to get away for a few days. Normally he hates the city…. Too much concrete and not enough greenery but he’s so desperate to get away from all the loved up couples around him, he leaves a day earlier than he needs to.

After finishing the last of his meetings in the city, Ryan decides to walk back to where he’s staying. During the walk, he scents his mate and is surprised to find that she’s a human. Chloe is a school teacher and she has stayed late at work to try and finish up marking class work. After getting a sense of being watched, Chloe locks up and makes her way home where she finishes off the marking and goes to bed. Having tracked her sent back to her home, Ryan is disturbed when he discovers that she’s living in a not too safe neighbourhood. He’s even more concerned when he goes to her apartment and is easily able to force the lock on her front door and gain entry.

Just as his cousin Tobias did when he found his mate, Ryan decides to kidnap Chloe and take her back to the royal estate to safety. The only problem with his idea is that Chloe believes him to be insane, especially when he tells her he is a werewolf and her mate. Aside from the fact that kidnapping is illegal in the human world, Chloe is also the only daughter of the High Commander of the Hunters Organisation…. Sworn enemies of werewolves! Initially, Chloe believes that the kidnapping is a prank, thought up by one of her brothers, but she soon learns that Ryan is serious in his claims and that’s when she starts plotting on how to escape her insane kidnapper.

After an interesting journey back to the Clans which also involved Ryan being arrested for kidnapping and having to be rescued by Sebastian and Tobias, Ryan settles back into his rooms on the estate with Chloe. If he thought that taking Chloe back to the Clans was the best way to keep her safe however, he was going to be proven wrong. It doesn’t take long for the rest of the clans to discover that Chloe comes from a hunter family and in their eyes, that makes her a hunter who needs to be killed. There are mishaps and mayhem along the way, more often than not caused by Ryan being emotionally deficient. Chloe thinks he is arrogant, overbearing and an idiot but she soon comes to realise that he is her idiot. Against her better judgment, she eventually falls for him which causes her a serious problem when she finds herself facing the possibility that she may have to choose between her mate and her family.

Ryan’s angst at trying to understand his mate is highly amusing at times and infuriating at others. So much so that Erica feels the need to give him a pep talk to point him in the right direction. Whilst Ryan feels compelled to keep her safe, Chloe has no such compulsion which is evident in the injuries she causes him along the way.

Whilst I’ve found these stories to be highly entertaining, I do feel the author has let herself down by the editing issues. Especially as they haven’t improved as more books have been released and it is for that reason, I have knocked a star off of my rating.

I loved Ryan, "I don't want things," he stated forcefully. "And I would never hurt you. I only came here because of you, I'm here to claim you." The man really has no filter, "I don't see why you're so concerned about your weight love, I meant what I said earlier. You're gorgeous. All soft, gentle curves. I can barely stand to look at you because you're so much of a temptation. Does that tell you nothing?" And he'd do anything for his gal, "of course you can love. I'll take care of any bugs in the future so don't worry. Please stop crying, your tears are killing me. I can't stand the thought of you suffering." His wolf oh boy that thing is wild, "Ryan roared, his eyes instantly turning amber. She marked us, his wolf purred. She's definitely open to our advances. The claiming will go ahead this moon."

So satisfying!

I loved this story! It was seriously just about perfect. the ending was so satisfying for the story. and the ending with Daniel! what?! Jennifer alli does an amazing job of connecting the books and characters instead of just moving on to the next pairing. the ending is just another example of that :)

I really enjoyed this story. I didn't realize that it was the third book in the series until after I read it. Even though it was the first I read in the series, the book seemed like a stand-alone and I didn't feel like I had missed anything by starting here. That said, I enjoyed the book enough to go back and read the series from the beginning.

Lots of action, growling, and heart-thumping romance!

This is without a doubt my favourite in this series. I was glued to each & every page.
I found myself giggling at the banter between the main characters & especially her insect phobia:-)
I would highly recommend this to any urban fantasy & romance readers.
