When Elizabeth Castle's handsome Beverly Hills boyfriend Daniel McCafferty proposes, she feels like all her hard work has finally paid off. Granted, her fact-checking job for a tabloid TV show isn't exactly the news anchor spot she aspires to, but she's come a long way from the backward hometown she left at eighteen. That is until a lawyer from Victory, California, calls to announce that Elizabeth's best childhood friend has died and left custody of her teenage daughter, Tiffany, to Elizabeth... Buck Planter, a former high school football star in Victory, has never forgotten his senior prom date, Lizzie Castle, and her irresistible, too-cool-for-school attitude. He always hoped he'd reconnect with her, but arriving at Elizabeth's doorstep with Tiffany in tow isn't exactly the kind of romantic reunion he'd envisioned. Though fate might have other ideas when at the prospect of instant fatherhood Elizabeth's fiance breaks off their engagement. Funny and heartwarming, Not Quite a Mom is a delightfully unexpected story of modern love and accidental motherhood from "an extremely talented author" (Fresh Fiction).
I can't imagine someone more selfish than the main character here. Selfish, irritating, annoying, immature, etc..etc..There is someone who is unemotional but I think Lizzie is just a case of over selfishness. She heard her ex-bestfriend died, what did she do? The child need guardian and what do you think her reaction was? It was always me me me. I didn't see in any single page where she thought about other people beside her. Even when she realized how she has to be responsible for Tiffany, it feels insincere. Like she did it for herself not for the child. I don't get how Buck fell in love with this kind of woman. I didn't think Buck even knew. The attraction between Buck and Lizzie was shallow. I mean Buck was infatuated with Lizzie when they were teen and somehow he still love her after all this time. The problem is I don;t see anything lovable about Lizzie. This is the book where I want to spirit the hero faraway from the supposed heroine to save him from future hell.
Let me save you the time, this book sucked! Immaturity leaked from the main character Lizzie the whole time, up until the last chapter. Who pines after some jerk for months after he treats you like garbage, while desperately hoping he comes back for you? That is pretty much the whole book up until, *POOF* she realizes she really loves this other guy who has supported her the whole time, then they sleep together, get pregnant, move in together, he pops the question AND she finally gets her dream job, all in the frame of maybe 2 pages. I found myself constantly checking to see how much further until I was done and it was brutal. There was one scene that I actually laughed at which is why I'm giving it the 1 star, but other than that, this book was a complete waste of time. 👎

I should have believed the reviews. I cannot get past Elizabeth laughing at the death of her high school friend. Not once but twice within a short space of time. I could understand a nervous giggle but to make crass jokes about the dead woman? No. There is no way that I could like this book or this woman. I can't continue to read this and I am glad that I got it from the library instead of buying it.
This was a pretty good book that I picked up on a whim. The overall story line was good, and likable, however I didn't really care for Tiffany. She just seemed like a super annoying teenager with no sense of the real world. I liked the story of Elizabeth and Buck and was rooting for them the whole time, right along with the rest of them.
Okay, here's the deal. I liked the story--but why, why, why did she feel the need to share some of the details of her sex life? I did really enjoy the Lizzie's growing "acceptance" of her birthplace as her character developed.. .
I'm sorry, but I've read free books on my kindle that are way better than this. I couldn't handle the writing style or the story. Let's not even talk about the brat of a main character....
