Arthur Kornberg (1918-2007), autor d’aquest llibre, va ser un bioquímic nord-americà guanyador del premi Nobel de fisiologia o medicina de 1959. L’origen d’aquests CONTES DE MICROBIS es remunta a la dècada de 1950, quan Kornberg explicava als seus tres fills contes que anava inventant sobre microbis i malalties. Unes dècades més tard, va narrar aquelles històries als seus néts, però va fer-ho amb un altre construint rodolins i altres versos fàcils i ficant en cada història el nom d’algun nét o néta o d’algun cosí dels seus nets.La Fundació Alsina i Bofill, que té entre els seus objectius la promoció del català en el món de la ciència i que ha participat en la traducció al català de llibres de texts universitaris de matèries científiques, dóna suport a la publicació en català d’aquesta obra de divulgació.

Arthur Kornberg was an American biochemist who won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1959 for his discovery of "the mechanisms in the biological synthesis of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)" together with Dr. Severo Ochoa of New York University. He was also awarded the Paul-Lewis Award in Enzyme Chemistry from the American Chemical Society in 1951, L.H.D. degree from Yeshiva University in 1962, as well as National Medal of Science in 1979. In 1991, Kornberg received the Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement[3] and the Gairdner Foundation Award in 1995.

His primary research interests were in biochemistry, especially enzyme chemistry, deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis (DNA replication) and studying the nucleic acids which control heredity in animals, plants, bacteria and viruses.
