Nick Arnold is the author of the award winning series, Horrible Science and Wild Lives. Arnold's first published works appeared as a result of a project he was working on at the University of North London, when he was trying to teach young children. A positive review was written about him, and he started to write the "Horrible Science" books. His books are illustrated by Tony De Saulles.
For sure the most interesting of the Horrible Histories/Science books I've read. I would recommend this if you want a quick book to learn more about different types of poisons, and I look forward to reading more of the Horrible Science books in future.
The Horrible Science series beats science lessons at school all hands down! They are hardly ever boring and are more likely to stay in your memory for a lifetime than all those other dull and unimaginative science text books you come across. This book is no exception. Just the right amount of horrible info without actually giving you nightmares mixed with a bit of humour. Actually, in some instances, I was surprised there wasn't more info supplied, particularly on Mercury. However, this is a delightful treatise on the subject of poison - a subject that is usually too horrible to discuss!
We are impressed with your curiosity after reading "Horrible Science: Painful Poison" by Nick Arnold. This book helps us understand that some things in nature, though they may look harmless, can be dangerous. You learned about different types of poisons and how they affect us. It's a good reminder to always be cautious and ask for help when you're unsure about something. This lesson can help you make safe choices in life, showing that it's important to be aware and careful.
A nice children book about poisons. Either caused by fungi, chemicals, etc..and what they done to our body system. One of my favourites (the other one is Deadly Diseases)
Not gonna lie, only read this now so goodreads will stop shaming me for already being behind on my reading goal. I feel like the magazine version had more information
Funny and Full of humor. I've never read such small piece of knowledge in funny, entertaining and engaging way. These books should be taught in schools.
One of my favourite books my favourite chapter was painfully poisonous plants I would recommend this book to 9-14 cause it could give some younger kids nightmares
This book is Painful Poison by Nick Arnold. This book tells you about dangerous poisons that might make people sick. Also it tells you about the history of using poisons. For example, long ago people used poisons to kill people. Also, there are poisonous plants and animals. I learned many things about poison. I liked this book because the writer made this book seemed funny. It was really interesting book.
From this book I learned that a lot of elements can be poisonous. Beryllium is the deadliest metal. It tastes sweet, but only a microgram of the stuff can be deadly. There are even scientists who inject snake poison into their blood. One of the scientists injected green-manba poison and survived. Do you know how he did it? He weakened the poison ten times! The scientist was Dr. F. Eigenberger. But if you really got bitten by a green manba, you will spit blood and die.
I think this is really fun book. I feel rabies poison (HA HA HA) for the book. ….. I think of the … disease for you to guess … zoo… PHRIP!! Yikes ! I've forgotten to tell you… THIS BOOK IS ABOUT POISON!!! A warning: DO NOT READ THIS BOOK AT DINNERTIME!!!!!
i think this book was very funny and useful, because it had taught me many kind of chemicals and the use of different kind of chemical, and i hope to read more about this book series, and also hope that there will be more and more books with this series.
One of my favourite childhood books that kept my passion for science alive. I was a big fan of all of the books in the Horrible Science series along with the Horrible History books.
The funniest scientific book I've ever read! Big ideas with simple words, quite readable! If there's a period table by hand, it might be helpful when I read!
