This book contains lots of black and white photos of classic screen beauties, including Greta Garbo, Hedy Lamarr, Colette Colbert, and many, many more. There is also info on designers of the era. For any film buff or designer wannabe, this is a good read.

THE MOST influential book in my design education, hands-down. The origin of my inspirations and the foundation of my understanding of the highest standards of style.

I happened upon this book over thirty years ago in a big store that sold items that were irregular, smoke damaged, etc. At the time, I was certain I'd grow up to be a fashion designer, so it was a great find. All these years later it's still a favorite, and I reread it probably every other year. The writing is filled with interesting facts and tidbits you'd never know or even think of, like which actress always wore a certain style, as she hated her body, etc. It's never boring, doesn't get bogged down. And the best part is the massive amount of photographs of stars in the costumes described.
