MP3 CD Format

They may have recently averted a full-scale galactic war, but Cal Carver and Space Team just can't stay out of trouble. When a 'Weird Space Thing™' threatens to destroy planet Earth, Cal is determined to stop it. But when they get there, they find the place is still swarming with parasitic extra-terrestrial bugs, and that there isn't a whole lot left to save. While battling an unexpected ghost of the past, Cal is abducted by aliens. Again. Brought before their covert High Council, Cal is given a save his Earth and doom countless others to oblivion, or sacrifice it, so that parallel Earths may live. Cal opts for none of the above, but his proposed solution might well doom not just his universe, but all universes everywhere. Featuring familiar strangers, unfamiliar friends, and an angry talking sheep named Duggie, Return of the Dead Guy is the reality-shattering sixth audiobook in the Space Team saga. Performed by Phil Thron, Danny Gavigan, Carolyn Kashner, Darius Johnson, Yasmin Tuazon, Christopher Walker, Megan Poppy, Bradley Foster Smith, Chis Stinson, Richard Rohan, Colleen Delany, Rose Elizabeth Supan, Mort Shelby, Robb Moreira, David Cui Cui, Eric Messner, Zeke Alton, Holly Adams, Scott McCormick, Jessica Lauren Ball, Laura C Harris and Ken Jackson.

05/09/2020 Notes:

#6 has a totally bizarre plot but it's a fun romp!

02/04/2019 Mini-Review:

The plot for this book was the oddest one of the bunch! Other than that, I thought it was a great foil to throw in the usual humor & show different things about our unlikely crew of outlaws. I really liked getting the personal look into different parts and see how past events have affected them to this point. I'm really hoping that the crazy that happened will be explained in more detail in the next book. This one was definitely a zany run.

Wow I did not expect those emotions.

World: Fun world building that builds on tropes and cliches but okays with it to make funny. Great tone and great new setting. I love this trope they used cause I'm a DC nerd.

Story: Great fun once again. I can't believe they went with this premise, I love it. I liked how fun they made it, how ridiculously stupid it was and the emotions that I unexpectedly have. They story was well done and paced well. I did think the Sinclair stuff while a cool joke was kinda wasted for Sinclair.

Characters: Cal is hilarious this time and rha ts saying a lot as the series has been pretty solid. I can't believe we went where went and while things were a bir cliché it was super fun. The character that shows up is great, and hit hard emotionally which I did not expect.

So fun!

Onward to the next book!

Space Team: Return of the Dead Guy definitely has a different feel to it than the previous Space Team books, but is still rife with the same humor and hijinx we love the series for. A little more Cal-centric than previous iterations, you nevertheless get some deep emotional moments for almost every member of the crew at some point in this one, and the stakes literally could not be any higher. Some good subplots get wrapped up, we get a glimpse of what could have been, and Space Team takes things to the next level. Enjoy some laugh-out-loud SciFi comedy!

It has been a joy, fun and hilarious ride all the way, with a dab of emotions even I couldn't avoid. This story was completely unexpected, the author with his runaway imagination is awesome, so creative and mind blowing! I just felt like Cal when he discovered the multiverse and..... guys, you've got to read this book!

Not as funny as some of the previous books in the series. I still enjoyed it though.

This will be a revision of a rare positive review.

I recently saw a Morons Are Great Americans, who whilst insulting a favourite essayist complain to her that I list other trans creators. The arrogance, proud ignorance, lack of self-awareness, deficient socialisation and vicious mindset of certain US males no longer shocks or surprises. I have come to realise that those traits are common, accepted and even lauded by at least 75% of the white US male voters and the 54% of white female voters who love them. A trigger warning then. My reviews and channels I list are at the least threatening to certain US readers. Channels which I find interesting include the writer, archaeologist, cis, political historian, bi, Australian, socialist, mathematician, gay, boater, WOC, trans, artist, redhead, Austrian, communist, literary essayist, older, asexual, astrophysicist, hobbyist and other creators known by the healthily socialised as Women. Almost as dangerous to the limited reference group or the insecure and entitled male are the fashion historian, anarchist, philosopher, other BIPOC, Celtic, mathematician, other lifestyle, physicist, other LGBTQI, board gamer, geopolitical commentator, military analyst, cultural historian, ginger, linguist, Greek, modeller and other creators known as Human Beings. Should the voices still demand you visit either reviews or channels, I urge you to initiate emergency therapy, immediate pastoral counselling or Catholic exorcism. Often I am loathe to devote time to these revisions but I remember the early days interview with the middle aged school teacher who organised and led her civilian anti-tank team against Russian armour North of Kyiv. With that example, how can I not continue. Glory to Ukraine. Glory to the Heroes.

I attempted more than 1000 books mostly science fiction through Unlimited over perhaps 5 years. That was a large number but I DNF'd more than 50% of the titles. Still it was a fair number of books for that period. I remember only a few of them and those mostly the most poorly written.

I do not remember either of of these books. I think that at least, no overtly racist, misogynistic or other anti-human elements were on display. With those caveats I am putting my original opinions forward.

This series seems consistently fun, apparently. I jumped from Volume One to volume six and had no problem following the story. The characters are so Douglas Adams that they become real. The writer wrote a Dr. Who short for a charity and with that he gets my coveted "I like this writer a lot" award.

The stories are fast and fun. The crazy characters and dialogue are very entertaining. He still manages to inject a lot of heart into them. I will go back and read the other books in sequence, as well as his other books.

I appreciate the entertaining titles on Unlimited when so few are. I ended my Unlimited sub because so much of the selection was unsatisfying or unreadable. I began visiting YouTube only three years or so past and found the science fiction movie and TV reviews. I stumbled upon the lifestyle, hobby, history and other channels one interest area at a time. My best find was Lindsay Ellis and literary criticism. She imparted an understanding of the rules, language and logics of criticism which I had not realised would allow me to begin to organise my reactions to fiction. I found the BookTube last on accident. 😍 They put much of the Goodreads reviews and comments in perspective. The communities fostered are of curious, thoughtful and for the most part courteous readers enamoured of all things bookish. They brought me back to print for which I am grateful, though I still rely more on film and TV at present. I promise that visiting the BookTube is unlike whatever Goodreads have become.

I need a stepaway on the YouTube. This next is brought to you by Nicole Chilaka-Ukpo, Motif React, Eilidh Brown, MoAn Inc, DUST, Fran Blanche, Verilybitchie, Renegade Cut, Roads with Belle, Creative Autistic, Candid with Lubna, Nicole Chilaka-Ukpo, Raw News and Politics, Combat Veteran Reacts, WokeGardener, HBomberGuy, FAFO, Just a Confused Brit, Adam Something, Mixmotion Studios, Silicon Curtain, Ensemble Belladonna, Vox Vulgaris, Fundie Fridays, NerdForge, Read Rant Review, Wednesday Addams -Paint it Black, Roads with Belle, Trae Crowder, BiracialVoices, Bayraktar Song, Reese Waters, Mandy, Reads with Rachel, Unheard History, Omeleto, Ministry of Miniatures. Consider treating this as a potentially hostile site. 🤔

Goodreads do not encourage or arguably, Allow discourse with the comments on negative reviews being evidence. As example, my last review was of Powers of the Earth, a childishly written salute to the psychopathic January 6, 2021 hero. The story is that of a poorly educated, recently become wealthy twit bravely enlisting the military in the overthrow of the US government in order that he not pay taxes. The book is a good example of a fair portion of the Unlimited selection and is popular with a large group of US science fiction readers.

The writer, a Travis Corcoran self-identifies as veteran, employee of an unnamed US agency, admirer of Putin's military, a proud libertarian and vocal advocate for the return of chattel slavery. The Corcoran is also a fair example of Unlimited science fiction writers. He and six fellow patriots took exception to my opinion that the theme was unhealthy and dangerous. I am not a fan of irony but am amused by their failure to recognise same.

That merry band of members spent a year demanding my response to increasingly unhinged comments from all black US citizens being sent to plantations as slave labour through worse. I was described as narcissistic in my silence. When I finally responded they ended their tirade as expected of the Goodreads coward. The last comment was delivered by a Claes Rees Jr aka cgr710 now ka Clayton R Jesse Jr. He no longer identifies as Nazi and grandly declared that They had "won" (?).

I discovered that They had apparently attacked every female channel creator I mentioned in a year long deluge, which continues still. Though They failed to make sexual conquests, They did increase the world's overabundance of unpleasantness and also delivered a perfect self-portrait of the US snowflake (vicious, ill-educated and poorly socialised man-child in a snit). That it seems was Victory. Goodreads discourse is a thing of beauty. US patriotism is well served by cretins. Elbows Up!

Ominous music begins. 😊 The US membership is still susaf but there is a splendid, surprise movement/recognition in the US. Gingers and redheads are being recognised as Black by increasing numbers of Redheads and African descendants in the US and is spreading across the globe. This may be the start of a grand coalescence of the marginalised across the world.

The extremes to which US members will commit are the doxxing, stalking and threats against one star reviewers with no action from Amazon. My experience extended to the giving over to nutcases my limited Goodreads message history. That allowed a request through Pine Gap Centre of Australian Security to interrogate the one friend whom I occasionally messaged. The attempt at my personal information failed though it did result in two outraged customers. I had among other occurrences even been subjected to a hacking attempt. Amazon did not respond to queries as usual, though as we advertised our experience, magical changes occurred. Suddenly I was able to view other reader opinions, all friends whom I had previously not been Allowed to remove disappeared, page options were restored to normal, the mysterious resets of my keyboard ended and other visible harassment ended. It is an interesting customer service protocol.

Another example of bizarre data corporation behaviours involved EBay. Recently a seventh ex-employee of EBay was sentenced for harassment of a couple whose small ecommerce channel was deemed insufficiently kind to EBay. The couple were awarded millions of pounds and that ex-employee had been the EBay Chief of Global Security or some such. It is also common knowledge that Google read all customer email. There are many other examples of this dangerous trend.

I have several simple suggestions which together will make Amazon exposure if not safe, a bit safer.

Remove all personal information from profile and avoid messaging. Remove the lurkers, those friends who never post. They are monitors not admirers. Given the Goodreads penchant for harassment and page alteration, the screenshot of the odd and the ugly is invaluable. These should suffice if only exposed to Goodreads. There are a number of alternative reader sites, which include Storygraph, Fable and others. Many BookTubers are happy to discuss them with viewers. I stopped following BookTubers who flog Kindle or display a Goodreads fetish.

If you own or considering purchasing a Kindle device, there are more dangerous vulnerabilities. Do Not "purchase" Amazon ebooks, as downloads are only leases which Amazon may remove at whim. If concerned with space or cost there are other readers, library loans, charity shops, community book exchanges and second hand book stores among other options. Do Not use Kindle Email, Contacts, Calendar or Files. unless you are unconcerned with data security of self, friends and family. Amazon read mail, may copy your files, store your searches, etc.

My experiences should leave no doubt of the dangers when employees are allowed, if not encouraged to attack or support attacks against customers in defence of print drivel. Visit the US commentator channels, especially FAFO channels for a view of the embedded viciousness, cruelty and evil which have always been cornerstones of the US culture, such as it is. These are the openly touted bedrock of US patriotism. Ominous music ends. 😊

Be safe and may we all discover good reading. 🤗

For the record, this has taken over as my favorite Space Team books. It also goes up high on all of my other good book lists, too. Take Space Team, mash it together with 2001: A Space Odyssey, and take a little time to pluck at heartstrings, and you have this book.
Barry J. Hutchison really ups his writing game with this one. While maintaining all of the fun and attitude and hilarity of the Space Team series, he drops in healthy doses of unconventional mystery and heartfelt warmth. Once this book got going, I was absolutely spellbound throughout. I couldn't imagine a Space Team book making me tear up, but this one did.
This really does sit at a level above the previous books, and I highly recommend it.
Phil Thron is just amazing. The different voices he does are varied and perfect. The pace and emotion he gives to the narration is spot on. I cannot imagine another of my favorite narrators giving this book the justice he does.
As amazing as this book is, I'm scared to go onto the next one. This book seems to be a once-in-a-series achievement, so I'm afraid to be let down by the next one. But I'm of course going to find out.

Read Series, Enjoyed Most

I've read all of them and got some chuckles. However, Book One, Earth gets ripped and MC is essentially a tasteless butt. Author, AUTHOR, AUTHOR would not have lost anything throughout entire series if he just left, did nothing with Earth. Scratch the earth sub-plot and this story could of still been used. ??? Most of the stories... plot didn't matter much, except first?

Couldn't relate, identify, feel anything for an MC, despite reading a comedy, that didn't understand what killing 7-8 billion fellow humans, including family, means. Remorse, compassion... MC is an alien.

Understand this is comedy, satire and I could take a few tasteless sentences per book. But this book kinda just brought out my all of my negative feelings for MC, author, with their lack of values, character, morality.

To be candid, started skimming early. The hypocrisy of MC now with feelings for home ... Wasting my time.

You can do good, great comedy, satire without being a tasteless butt.

I'm conflicted about this entry in the Space Team saga. On the one hand, it was WEIRD. There were some real bizarre scenes and twists in this one and it a little too strange for my tastes. On the other hand, I still laughed out loud at several points and think this is some of the author's best writing from a technical standpoint. It was really refreshing to see Cal struggle with something emotionally, and to have some of his backstory filled in a little. Overall, I still highly recommend this installment (just like all the books in this series), but be prepared for something that's way more "out there" than the run-of-the-mill space adventures that the team has been going on thus far.

Kindle Unlimited, tho some got free some from ku etc, 'space opera' type genre, definitely worth a read with all the different elements, only reason didn't select full of surprises instead of some twists is because I read a LOT.

Again. Brought before their covert High Council, Cal is given a choice: save his Earth and doom countless others to oblivion, or sacrifice it, so that parallel Earths may live. Cal opts for none of the above, but his proposed solution might well doom not just his universe, but all universes everywhere.

Featuring familiar strangers, unfamiliar friends, Space bears, and an angry talking sheep named Duggie, and the crew of the formerly named The Shatner now named Currently Untitled.

I LOVE CAL CARVER!!

What a guy!!! I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling this way, Space Team makes you laugh, makes you cry (nah, not really) but each and every book makes you remember just why you love (in no particular order) Space 1999, all of the Star Trek’s (with the possible exception of the 1st series of Voyager), Farscape, Earth the Final Conflict, Lost in Space, Dr Who, Blake’s 7, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and lets not forget Red Dwarf especially Red Dwarf!!
It’s completely irrelevant, packs a GREAT storyline into each book and the best thing of all each book is good enough as a stand-alone that you don’t need to read the rest of them... problem is after reading one you’re hooked and you’ll end up reading them all and writing reviews at 1am in the morning...
Join the Space Team for exotic space travel and the occasional assassination attempt!!

One of the funniest series I’ve ever read, or heard (listened on audible). The narrator Phil Thron is probably the best narrator I’ve ever listened to, bar none. Sometimes you just need to laugh. There is no real swearing because their communication chips don’t allow it so their expletives come out warped (shiz, fonk). The only downside in my book, and it’s a huge downside, is that there is occasional blasphemy. There are no sex scenes but there are some shady characters that raise alarming questions/ideas. These books are not appropriate for any of my children.

Return of the Dead Guy
Return of the Dead Guy, Space Team 6, brings back a character from the 1st book, Space Team, thought really not for a long time.

When you first read it you think something happened to the Zertex President when you look at the title. But no, it is something else. A blast from the past to be precise. Not going to spoil it for you, but at least the guy is wearing pants this time.

Oh, crap! Too much.

The actual dead guy lasts just a little. In fact, I would suggest not to title the book this way for it is very misleading. Fans of the Star Trek series will recognize part of the book as being themed after a specific episodes.

Cal is in crap again. He makes his own choices, disregards common sense, and opens the wrong door. But does he really? Save all but one or save them all. And then the dead guy comes around again, just to throw a little wrinkle in the works.

All in all the read is easy and fast. Nothing too spacey (hats off to Cal) about the writing except a call of a little better editing. I mention this because the editing is starting to show signs of less than a spectacular effort. With a series as popular as this one, you would think spending the money to keep the work perfect is a top choice, but obviously not.

Just a few more books left in this series, and I am interested in how it will all wrap up. Hope it is not a lost ending, that would really make me upset. But then again, the work is a lot of parities rolled up into one lengthy story about Cal and his best friend Splurt.

Space Team has done it again! Another mission and another round of laughter.

I have some issues with the plot, however. Mostly regarding the multiverse. For instance, if Cal went and proposed a deal to the enemy, there would be at least 2 Cal's returning. One where it was accepted, and one where it wasn't. Conversely, if cal went to say fonk you to the enemy, then there would be another 2 returning, one where the enemy was scared and one where it wasn't. So in all there would be at least 4 Cals returning, depending on Cals decision and the result.

Now, I understand this story has a simplified version of the multiverse in it and it is a fun adventure story, not a serious look into superposition and such, but I couldn't shake the feeling that this could have been tweaked to be a little more indepth while keeping it light and funny.

Having said that, there is probably a version of me who didn't get caught up on that and had no complaints.

Still another great book and I'm very much looking forward to the next.

I enjoyed the series so far, but this book was ... different.

It somehow manages to take away some of the fun elements - Cal being the single surviving human, who is now thrown into a rich alien universe and has to figure out its rules with the help of some friendly aliens (the SPACE TEAM!). Kind of like Futurama, actually.

What's left doesn't work as well. Instead of the sense of wonder and exploration we get the Multiverse and the council of Ricks - sorry, Carvers.

But then instead of dialing the plot to 11 and exploring the infinite possibilities we get a very limited plot. Wow, 99 Ricks (sorry, Cals), and one of them is a dwarf. None play any role. None of the worlds matter. No sense of exploration at all.

What's left is the same 25 jokes that keep getting reused over and over again. It's not bad per se, but getting boring and stale.

The story on this one wasn't believable or as entertaining as some others have been. These books have lost my interest at many points, but they always regain it. For this book, I was bored or irritated for a large portion of it. I'm still not sure what was supposed to have happened during many parts.

Still, the relationships are fun and there are awesome jokes, so I'm glad to still be reading the series. Rather, listening to the audiobooks. The acting and narration is great or good for the most part, with a few exceptions. I've felt that the reading of Loren has been bad throughout, and this book had another female character who I thought was read poorly. The graphic audiobooks are a great way to enjoy this story, though, and most of the acting is done well.

Cal finds that his past is not as resolved as he thought, and that he is not unique in any way - even though he prefers to think he is. And there is some sort of godly being that is set on ending the universe as the Space Team knows it...and someone needs to stop it. Who else if not space Cal #99?

This series doesn't disappoint. I laughed, really enjoyed Mech's development, and was curious about the way the author would get out of the incredible mess he created. Moreover, I am in awe of the voice actors that had to multiply themselves into several characters who are the same but aren't. It was amazing listening to the Graphic Audio version.

I read this so slowly, because I didn't want it to end!

Very very very different from the usual zaniness, zany, but in a zany way. Can I be more clear? Multi-verses, multiple Cal's, multiple everyone's and everything's. Oh yeah and a super baddie to eat it all up! I'm going to have to read this one again. I'm so glad to hear that there is another book coming, I can't give up these hilarious guys and doings and stuff.

Cal is on a mission to save the universe from an entity—a space entity, affecting not just his, but everyone's. Yeah, right, good luck with that!

Cal approaches this mission with careless abandon, though he has help from his team, his space team, and nearly a hundred other versions of Cal from the multiverse. What could go wrong? Well, a lot, actually.

Another fun-filled, crazy adventure from the Space Team.

I've really enjoyed this series and the audiobooks which have all the sound effects. But I got to say this is the least interesting and weakest plot line of all of them. Parts of it are just so predictable and other parts are so whiny and boring. And that's the first I've experienced in the whole series. So a bit of a disappointment

However it ends with a lot of questions so probably there's more in this series and I just don't know about it yet

Cal and the team return, what could be better?? Well 99 Cal's!! The Space Team take on there biggest battle so far, as not only are they fighting for to save the whole universe, but also all the parallel universes too. This book again moves along at a good pace, the team are well established now and continue to save the day in there own unique style!!

I cannot say enough about this series. In a world that takes itself and everything else too seriously, I can lose myself in the world of Cal Carved and take a rest from reality. I've been doing a lot of traveling lately, and my seatmates on the flight ask what's so funny. The absurdities continue to amuse.

I bought the next book before I even finished this one!

I read the first three and then didn't bother with the next one but then came back to them, re-read them and have now bought the next four in short order. Each one improves on the last. God KNOWS how good they'll be by number 10!!

The ending of this book was epic. I loved that ending. Also I wonder what ever happens to the dead guy. What will happen to him? Would be awesome if he survived and then got sent to his greatest fan. I loved the whole Calver Council bit. I kind of felt bad for Mech he really met his worse nightmare a room full of Cal's.

GraphicAudio - 3 stars. Probably my least favorite of the 6 Space Teams books I listened to. Multiverse is the hot new theme I guess. It was sweet to see Cal 'reunite' with his daughter but overall story was just meh. Don't really understand the ending either, if it was explained then I didn't pay enough attention. Cal turns into a giant head and sucks up the cosmic bad guy? Say what now?

Crikey!

Weird doesn't even begin to describe this story! It is pure insanity and unadulterated fun. If you want a good laugh with lots of silly jokes and blowing up of "fonking shizznods" then this is the space series for you.
