Labyrinth is one of the films I've seen the most. This collection is very mixed. I really liked Ludo's stories, some of the random goblins not so much. It wasn't really the kind of detailed world you can deep dive into. As it wasn't built to be a proper world but to reflect Sarah's imagination. But the last story was really good and totally got it. It was brilliant. So I'm very glad I read this.
A collection of short Labyrinth comics by different writers and artists! There were some very cute stories in here, and some that were just okay. The standout though is Masquerade, a much longer comic that explores the backstory of one of the masquerade dancers. I think I may have enjoyed this more than the Labyrinth: Coronation series...
A collection of short stories from various Labyrinth one-shots published across the years that feature some characters we know and love, and others that we'll grow to love as we go along.
As with any anthology, some of these stories are better than others. The Michael Dialynas story featuring a goblin named No! is very good, as is the longer form Masquerade one-shot at the end of the book. There's a silly story midway through that's a thinly veiled Evangelion pastiche which made me giggle, and most of the other stories are charming if a little lacking in substance.
The artwork throughout is very good too - some artists opt for the more storybook approach while others go more realistic, but both work well in the land of Labyrinth.
This may have been a more enjoyable read if it wasn’t so front heavy with stories that don’t really add much to the world of Labyrinth.
But they are almost all cute stories about the characters we love. And then the Masquerade story holds an interesting idea that delves into a part of the film that I hadn’t even thought of. The Dancers in the Masquerade. I’d always thought of that as a dream but apparently it wasn’t quite that. At least in this story.
So read it if you’re a fan of Labyrinth but it wouldn’t really pull in new people to the franchise.
I love me some Labyrinth content. This is an absolutely gorgeous graphic novel. I think at least four of these five stars goes to ‘Masquerade’ - a thought-provoking narrative that adds to the world of Labyrinth immeasurably. Such an interesting behind the scenes! I don’t often reach for graphic novels, but I’m glad I found this one.
An interesting and well-selected collection of short stories that expands on the world of Labyrinth and the characters that reside in Goblin City and the surrounding lands. The quality, for me, improves through the book, especially in the last two tales: No! by Michael Dialynas and Masquerade, the longest story, by Lara Elena Donnelly, Pius Bak and Samantha Dodge. All feel very 'Jim Hensony' ☺️
This collection imagines cute vignettes of life in the world of Labyrinth, but it doesn’t have much in the way of plot. If you’re interested in a variety of art styles and small stories into that world this is great. There is almost no focus on the movies protagonist and very little focus on the Goblin King. Instead we spent time looking at daily life of the goblins and other adventures.
Something a little different to the movie featuring all our favourite characters one way or another. I’m still waiting for a novelisation, but the comic book-like interpretation was a cute and enjoyable read.
A collection of mostly very brief comics all set in the world of Labyrinth. Fertile ground, as there's so many characters and places in the movie we only see briefly. As a big fan, it was just nice to revisit Labyrinth with new eyes, though of course not every comic was great.
I am LOVING this book! So many new stories with familiar characters and places. I love it! The illustrations are awesome. Fantastic cover art at the end, too!
