The prelude to the next monumental Power Rangers event DARKEST HOUR!
AN UNEXPECTED NEW TEAM OF POWER RANGERS ARRIVE!
As if the medium-spanning, fan-favorite villain Drakkon wasn’t enough of a threat, Mistress Vile has special plans, ones that will bring the Rangers’ greatest foe into our world!
But this scheming isn’t without consequences for Drakkon, and he’ll have to take a page from the book of Zordon if he wants the world of the Coinless to survive. But who would be unhinged enough to join his team? As if they have a choice…
Meanwhile, the HyperForce Rangers must do everything they can–including gathering any available and unexpected allies from every corner of the multiverse–as they battle against Mistress Vile and Dark Specter’s spreading infection of the Morphin Grid!
Acclaimed Dead Mall and Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance writer Adam Cesare teams up with Mighty Morphin artist Moisés Hidalgo to present the last Rangers anyone would want to be… that fans didn’t know they needed! Collects Power Rangers Unlimited: The Coinless #1 and Power Rangers Unlimited: HyperForce #1.
Adam Cesare is a New Yorker who lives in Philadelphia. His books include Clown in a Cornfield, Video Night, The Summer Job, and Zero Lives Remaining. He’s an avid fan of horror cinema and runs Project: Black T-Shirt, a YouTube review show where he takes horror films and pairs them with reading suggestions.
Call To Darkness collects the latest two Power Rangers one-shots, The Coinless, and Hyperforce.
Coinless is, as you'd expect, a return to the Coinless universe as Lord Drakkon attempts to put a new Ranger team together. I do like that Boom! keep returning to this world every now and then, because there's still a lot of story to be mined, and Drakkon's return only serves to show that. I definitely have a feeling that this story's going to be important in the main Power Rangers book sooner rather than later.
And then Hyperforce deals with the Hyperforce Rangers, surprising no one. I've got a passing knowledge of them, I listened to about half the podcast before I got distracted by other things. I think the problem here is that it assumes you know everything about these characters and who they are, and maybe a little recap or context page would have been helpful to make the emotional beats mean a little more if you're not as acquainted with them as other Ranger characters.
Not a bad collection, and you'll definitely get more out of it if you're more into Hyperforce than I am, but time will tell how important these stories will be overall.
Yay for more Power Rangers! This has some stories in between the prior run and the new run. We get to see Drakkon Rangers get together and fight against the rise of Dark Specter. Then there is another story with the Hyperforce Rangers. I loved the last one especially since I really dig the Hyperforce Rangers. I will take any extra stories in one of my favorite worlds!
