DNF. I didn't actually read the book after getting it but I did look through it. Is it okay to call a book a scam? My library has this in the non-fiction section with the books on folklore and mythology. I judged it by its cover and assumed it was an actual book of myths because why else would it be placed in the non-fiction sections. Imagine my surprise to discover it is actually a book of myths with a brief paragraph of each myth then the rest are fictional short stories. I know it's partially my fault for not looking at it first and partially the libraries but I think many people could come to the same assumption.
Intimacy of the gods, heartbreaking moments that transcend both the living and the dead planes, and the naive but cruel rules of mankind.
It's not about mythological studies, but what stories can bring up in you through the prism of bigger things. Even if some stories are better than others, it's a really enjoyable ride throughout. Thank you to the wonderful person who gave me this book. 🖤
This work is verbose and struggles with characterization. The gods of the pantheons represented are fickle. They are very human. That’s why it was sad to see rich stories placed into two dimensional characters. Great writers activate the imagination. Christinee knocked the reader over the head with description. The writing in this book didn’t allow the reader to enter deeply. This is especially true for the story of Anubis.
Nothing groundbreaking with this one, but I did enjoy some of the stories! I’m usually not a big fan of short stories because they always feel a little underdeveloped and I can’t get into something in only 20 pages, but some of these were pretty good. I felt others ended too abruptly, but overall I liked this collection.
This book is utter trash, if you’re looking for an actual anthology of underworld myths and legends, this is not it. This author summarizes the original source story then puts a bizarre spin on each tale with her own 'original' retelling. Would give 0 stars if I could. I read through about 40% of this in the hope it would improve at all and was sorely disappointed.
Not a bad collection of short stories. The myths I weren’t familiar with were the most interesting to me while the myths I did know I just thought the author made some weird choices on how she told it.
trash, no other word for this. Trust the other poor reviews, its such terrible writing that the random good ones seem fake/incentivized to me. I'd sooner use this as kindling for our fireplace than give it to my kids to read even.
Amazed I made it as far as two chapters/stories in this book. A more apt description of this book would read “failed author tries very hard to whitewash her lack of talent and education“. 100% do not recommend at all.
