I'd like to say I bought this for my kids, but I didn't. I bought it for me. It's mine. All mine! Because it's gorgeous.
Written as though you might expect to find a snow dragon curled up beneath a tree in winter, this book goes into detail about how each type of dragon is different, from their claws and scales, to their eyes and bone structure. The beautifully illustrated and rendered images are utterly jaw-dropping. It just tickles the kid in me, the girl who used to believe dragons were real, and the part of me that wishes it were so.
Beware the glint in a dragon's eye: Gold as ice to the liar, sharp as a knife to the knave, hard as iron to the greedy, a burning flame to the brave.
Very pretty and fascinating. Far too short but lovely at the same time, it gave me lots of ideas. And yes, I do admit to purchasing this for myself. How could I not? Like I said, it is lovely, both the cover and the art inside it. Anyone who is fascinated by dragons would love to peruse the wonders inside. And the art is gorgeous.
Vypij ji a řeč ptáků pochopíš. Však vylij ji a víc nepromluvíš. Chraň si ji a dračí poklad najdeš. Však ztrať ji a brzy mečem sejdeš.”
I love legends and myths. Learning that there are so many different types of dragons was intriguing. I'm a big nerd, so learning about dragons scales, teeth, and eggs was interesting. My favorite dragon in the book was the Triple Horned Night Dragon. They are found in Australia, come out at night, and have a wolf-like howl. I also loved reading about the ancient dragons. It's cool that even though their scales lose their color and they don't have the physical strength to fight anymore, they have fantastic wisdom.
I love dragons, so I read books about them whenever I can. This is a children's guide to dragons, so it is written fairly straightforwardly, with lovely hand-drawings and computer generated images of dragons. It gives an overview of dragons: their types, habitats, species, senses, claws, scales, horns, eggs, legends etc. Although it lacks depth (being written for children) it contains a lot of inspiring ideas for the many kinds of dragons the imagination can conjure.
Really cool stuff about dragons...but a bit of an overuse of adverbs. The six-year-old loved it, though. Even though he spent the whole book telling me about the traits and characteristics of the Night Fury, of the mystery class, even though I told him multiple times that those weren't in this particular book.
As far as Dragon books go, it's not bad. A lot of graphics, some outstanding. Kudos to the author for the creation of dragon types and drawings. The brief section on legends was familiar except for the Polish Dragon was a nice addition.
This is a great book for dragon illustrations. I picked up a copy for my young niece, to show her a few different kinds of dragons. There were little tidbits and facts throughout the book that made it worth the money. I would definitely recommend it.
My kids loved this book. The graphics are amazing and exciting. My kids are 8 and 10yrs old it held their intrest to where they had me reading it them as a bed time book I think we have read this book so much its been memorized.
