With a theme of gifting, A Girl from Daniel is a sweet easy reader. Daniel is given a gift and then decides to make a gift to return the gesture. I like how Daniel and Mrs. Elaine were both excited for their gifts even though one was purchased and one was handmade. Great theme and story.

Thank you Simon Kids for gifting me a copy to review.

A GIFT FROM DANIEL is a sweet early reader with a holiday theme. Daniel Tiger and Miss Elaina are enjoying playing together when Miss Elaina tells Daniel she has a gift for him. Daniel also really cares for Miss Elaina, so he wants to give her a gift too. He talks it over with his mother because he cannot decide what he can give her. His mother suggests he makes her something. Daniel creates a paper trolley, and she loves it! The book concludes with saying that homemade gifts are extra special.

What I loved: This is a sweet Christmas-coded story about gift-giving. While the characters do not specifically say Christmas, the wrapping is red, green, and gold, and the weather is wintery. This actually makes it work for several occasions with a sweet message about giving gifts from the heart. The ultimate storyline of making a gift and the special nature of homemade gifts is perfect for children who may not go to stores but can create something at home that others will love to receive.

The book includes images from the show with lots of great color and details to keep attention. The text is large and printed in white rectangles that will help with early reading. While this is a pre-level ready-to-read book, children who are learning to read can follow along easily with the large font and may be able to read some of the words along the way. The book uses simple and repetitive language to aid in the learning process.

Final verdict: A GIFT FROM DANIEL is a charming early reader about giving from the heart that will work well for preschoolers who are beginning to learn to read.

Please note that I received an ARC. All opinions are my own.

Holds an important message about gift-giving, while inspiring readers to create their own gifts.

Daniel Tiger enjoys spending time with Miss Elaina. One day, she gives him a gift. Daniel is so touched that he wants to give her one, too. After talking about it at home, he decides to make one for Miss Elaina and hopes she'll like it.

Fans of the series will recognize Danie Tiger and the other characters right away. The settings come across very familiar (directly from the show) and invite in with their colors and every day details. Daniel, of course, is a very kind soul, and it's easy to understand that he wants to do something for Miss Elaina, too. I especially enjoyed watching Daniel create his own gift, since it does remind readers that they can do this as well. The reminder that self-made gifts are especially special adds just the right touch and does inspire kids to do the same.

The text is just right for beginning readers and helps them exercise their reading skills, expand their vocabulary, and still, not push too hard. It's concise and brings across the story in an interesting way, which will even appeal to more reluctant readers.

This isn't really a complete Christmas read, but rather, lets the illustrations strongly hint at the season (colors and wintery scenes). So, this can be read at other times and used as a general gift-giving read as well. I received an ARC and enjoyed the tale.
