"So what's the big mystery surprise?" asked Squidge. "Can't say," I replied. "But don't worry. It includes you." "All of us?" asked Cat. "Me, Squidge, Mac, and Becca?" "Oh yes. And you're going to love it." Lia is over the moon because her friends have been invited to join her family in celebrating her mom's fortieth birthday in a secret location. It's going to be the party of the decade, and Lia imagines romantic scenes in an exotic location with her boyfriend, Squidge. However, events don't go exactly as planned, and the final guest list is full of surprises. Lia finds herself in an awkward position when an old flame turns up and makes a play for her. It's midsummer, but does it mean meltdown for Lia and Squidge when the party's over?

Midsummer Meltdown is a light and fluffy upper grades / YA read, featuring some innocent romance and loose plot allusions to William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Main Character Lia Axford lives a pretty charmed life, as the youngest daughter of a rock star and a 1990s supermodel, both of whom are super chilled out, generous and supportive parents. Lia lives in a palatial home in Cornwall and attends the local school, where she's got a close circle of friends, including her boyfriend, Squidge.

Lia's mum's 40th birthday is approaching and while she's given instructions that she doesn't want any fancy celebrations, her husband knows that she'd love something special. So (money being no impediment) he books out the boutique hotel in Marrakech where they first met and invites several close friends, in addition to Lia, her sister Star and brother Ollie and their closest friends, on an all-expenses paid luxury weekend.

This all sounds heaps fun to Lia and her four closest friends, but their plans go awry as Mac's parents refuse permission for him to go, with GCSE exams approaching, and Squidge is badly injured in an accident on his bike a week before the party.

Lia, Cat and Becca decide to make the best of their time in Morocco, and plenty of high-jinks ensue, with Lia's flirty older brother Ollie and his friends also in attendance. However, Lia is soon squirming with discomfort and conflicted emotions at the attentions of Ollie's friend Michael, on whom she has had a longtime crush. She desperately wants to stay true to Squidge, but Michael is both gorgeous and very persistent...

This was a quick and fun read that explored the importance of trust and respect in relationships. The cute boys, romantic intrigue and exotic setting are a winning combination, and I expect girls my daughter's age - Cathy Hopkins' target audience - would just lap it up. I have to admit, I'm just a bit too old...

this time it is at lia's point of view, a rich girl that just looks amazing, and come from a rich family. it is her mom's birthday and she is inviting her friends to her birthday party. they are going to somewhere very romantic, but lia's boyfriend squidge suddenly got into a accident. but lia's just found out that her childhood crush is coming too. can lia resist herself into doing things that could betray her loving boyfriend. a midsummer trip is everything a teen need to refresh their mind. lia and her friends discover many things that they don't know about them during this trip.

many teens got into these decisions problems that they don't want to be seduced into situations that they are confused about.

So far it is my favorite of the entire series. I love Lia, and I loved this trip to Morocco (though obviously surprised to Mac and Zoom). I really like Michael so I hope to see Lia and Michael together in any books either 7 or 8.
The party was the best. Because I love that book; I am fascinated by the dress and get dressed Zoom fairy :)
Definitely bring Morocco to Zoom was the best part, jiji
An excellent book.

I learned that we should always be sure to know how to differentilate whether the decisions we make are right or wrong. We should learn to follow our feeling, rather than our thoughts. It's the utmost important thing when it comes to "love." The main character Liz suffered with this problem of not knowing how to make the right decisions between her and her boyfriend!!

These are kind of interesting books in this series. The group of friends always play truth or dare with each other which can quite easily get them into trouble. They usually focus on the different love stories among the characters, and tend to be a little stereotypical. May be better suited to high school students because of the content but the writing may be too young.

I decided to give this a read because it reminded me of my days growing up. Quite a nice book to read in between reading other books. The ending was nice, it made me grin like a child and have warm, fuzzy feelings.

It was really sweet :) Just mainly about telling the truth in a relationship, even if it's a unimportant kiss.
