From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Seeing Red comes Hello, Darkness , a brilliant, fast-paced tale about a woman haunted by her past and caught in a nightmare that threatens to destroy her future.

For Paris Gibson, her popular late-night radio show is both an escape and her one real contact with the outside world. To her loyal listeners, she is a wise and trusted friend who not only takes their requests but listens to their problems and occasionally dispenses advice.

Paris’s world of isolation is shattered when one listener—a man who identifies himself only as “Valentino”—tells her that the girl he loves jilted him because of Paris’s on-air advice. Now he intends to exact his first he plans to kill the girl—then he will come after Paris.

Joined by the Austin police department, Paris plunges into a race against time in an effort to find Valentino before he can carry out his threat. To her dismay, she finds that she must now work with crime psychologist Dean Malloy, a man with whom she shares a history. His presence arouses old passions, forcing Paris to confront painful memories that she had come to Austin to forget.

Well, another SB book. Another hit. Seriously, this woman can write. As with her other books, didn't read too many reviews. Didn't want spoilers.

For Paris Gibson, her popular late-night radio show is both an escape and her one real contact with the outside world.
Since moving to Austin to ease the pain of past, tragic mistakes, she has led a life of virtual solitude, coming alive only when she hosts her show. To her loyal listeners, she is a wise and trusted friend who not only takes their music requests but listens to their problems and occasionally dispenses advice.
Paris's world of isolation is brutally threatened, however, when one listener -- a man who identifies himself only as "Valentino" -- tells her that her on-air advice to the girl he loves has caused her to leave him and that now he intends to exact his revenge.

Sandra Brown does great sex scenes. They are not graphic, they just are. I feel them.

"Dean, don't."

Finally, they lay down face-to-face on her bed, virgin until now. Her hand coasted over his torso, down past his navel and into the dense hair surrounding his sex. She drew her finger up the length of his penis. He covered her hand with his and guided it up and down. "Jesus," he groaned.

I cannot say too much with out giving the plot away. Just read it.

As the clock ticks down, and Valentino's threats come closer and closer to becoming a reality, Paris suddenly finds herself forced to deal with a killer who may not be a stranger at all.

I LOVED IT.

This is another Sandra Brown winner for me. As with the other SB books I have read, the plot and characters continue to be strong, fascinating and thrilling. Various threads are woven together to create a plot that will have questioning everyone and second guessing everything.

Paris Gibson’s life has changed. Walking away from a past that has caused her pain and heartache she moves to Austin to do something different. Being a late night radio broadcaster, she loves music and the connection it creates with people.

 photo 15ce5da0-6973-44d3-a38f-60d6fd32513c_zpsb2fc377e.jpg

But the attention of one listener crosses the line and has Paris on edge. What had been an average call in, turns out to be cold and threatening.

 photo e66347058b8e5a054e5437d34a932e2d_zpsf6c13518.jpg

Dean Malloy works within the Austin PD as a psychologist with experience as a cop. He was a valuable asset and one that they used in situations like this. After the alarming call in, Paris had no choice but to contact the police. What she didn’t expect was to see Dean again.

 photo 4ef5af91-2a4d-4f0a-9eee-1705523c4e3a_zps256b8926.jpg

There was some dark stuff going on in this one. The plot was gripping and enticing. You’re sucked in from the beginning and kept engaged through the very last sentence.

 photo e1b8b48b-3b8a-4401-a33a-32f6ca772e7f_zpsa70ff0ee.jpg

I know I really didn’t give you much to go on but that’s the way it has to be. I can’t say much because with a sexy thriller like this you need to just dive in and experience it yourself. And yes there were sexy moments. Again, the sex and romance is always second to the suspense. That doesn't cause it to be any less alluring. The deliverance of each and every kiss and touch leads to some AMAZING sex scenes. The anticipation is killer. ❤ ❤

Another highly recommended read!!

3.8 Stars - Just as entertaining as every romantic SB suspense I've read (listened to)

Back to the always delivering romantic suspense author Sandra Brown. As most often lazy me chosed the audiobook edition. — 13:30 interesting hours narrated by Victor Slezak. A great voice to have your ear plugs and probably my absolute #1 favorite SB books narrator.

**********************************************

Paris Gibson is the host of a very popular night radio show. One late night a listener, "Valentino", tells her that the girl he loves jilted him because of Paris's on-air advice. He intends to kill his girlfriend and later also take revenge on Paris. To stop the sinister Paris ask the poilce for help and meets the crime psychologist Dean Malloy ... the very one and only man she had hoped never to meet again.

As earlier a safe bet..
I started fancying Ms Brown's books just two years or so. Every single time I end feeling glad and happy about it and just want to start reading yet another one. Hello, Darkness isn't her very best in my opinion (maybe because it took me as long time to finish), but in every way thrilling, heart touching romantic and as always with good crime solving aka drama case.

My admiration once again. — It will be more by SB. ...Many many more.

**********************************************

I LIKE - good "old fashion styled" romantic SB suspense

Hello Darkness, my old friend...oh wait...just Hello, Darkness. It's so hard not to sing the song with this title.

Anywho, I liked what Sandra Brown did with this one. She was able to create five male suspects (well, maybe 2 of them were too weak to be the culprit but still) to keep me on my toes. Usually, I'm able to tell who the culprit is pretty early on. In this one, I had to wait until almost the end, to corroborate my suspicions.

Paris Gibson moved to Austin looking for a new beginning. For a couple of years now, she has been doing a music radio show at night. She has developed a faithful and large audience. Paris loves her job. She's able to work almost alone and no one really knows who she is. She likes to wear glasses even in the dark. Her eyes are sensitive and the darkness is her friend.

One night, a recurrent caller by the name of Valentino, tells her she's to blame for him kidnapping a young woman and in seventy-two hours, after raping her, he will kill her. Paris immediately seeks the help of the local police. She believes the threat of his listener and she wants to help in any way she can. What she was not expecting is to meet again a man from her past, Dean Malloy.

Dean Malloy is a not only a cop, he's also a psychologist. Recently, his teenage son has moved in with him. but they are not seeing eye to eye. His son is rebellious and most of the time has a bad attitude. When Paris comes back into Dean's life, he knows his feelings for her never went away and he will do anything to protect her. Finding Valentino becomes his priority.

Hello, Darkness had great suspense with a good built-in romance! I didn't approve of some of the things both main characters have done/doing but it didn't take away from me liking them both. I was glad they were able to have their second chance.

As for the bad guy, like I said earlier, there were so many who could be Valentino. The big reveal had its own twist which surprised me.

Sandra Brown proves once again, she knows how to write suspense novels.

WOW! I had to screw my head back on tight after all the head spins in this book. I thought I had it figured out about 5 times then Boom! I had to refigure. A lot of touchy issues in this book, but don't criticize SB for it......it's life. One of her very best :)

Opinion Breakdown
The Good: The premise.

The Not-So-Good: The end. It was good for the suspense but not for the relationship. Also the POVs were a little too much.

The Bad: The romance. I needed more explanation as to why they did what they did in the past and why they felt so strongly for one another.

Overall: This was underwhelming. I was intrigued enough to finish the 473 pages in my kindle app, so that says something I guess! I just had figured out the mystery pretty early on and I didn't really like either main character all that much. I think it might have been because there were also too many of the side characters' perspectives that the story focused on to connect with them. I guess I'm just staying in my reading rut because this was a little less that "just okay" 3 stars for me.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Paris and Dean's story. Paris is a late night radio host and she gets an odd call from a fan that concerns her enough to alert the police about a potential crime against an unknown victim. Dean is the new psychologist for the department and he gets brought in to profile the caller. They have a messy history that gets messier as they interact more while trying to find out if the call was a prank or a real threat on a short deadline. There are some suspenseful scenes, a mystery that is solved, and some sexy times...and they get a HFN ending.

Point Of View (POV): This alternated between focusing on many characters (including the mcs) in 3rd person narrative.

Overall Pace of Story: Good for the most part. I didn't like how quickly it ended after the mystery was solved (especially considering how long it was), but I never skimmed.

Instalove:No, but feelings were still there when they are reunited.

H (Hero) rating: 2 stars. Dean. I struggled with him. First, . Then , he . Just didn't have the morals I like in a H, I guess.

h (heroine) rating: 3 stars. Paris. She was okay. I didn't quite understand why every single man wanted her and the eye issue though...

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Alright. They have some tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: Yes

Cheating: Yes

Separation: No, because they weren't considered together

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This ends right after finding closure for the mystery but with not as much closure for the relationship that I would've liked . I would call this a HFN ending.

Safety: This one is probably Not Safe for most safety gang readers

“Up until six minutes to sign-off, it had been a routine shift.”

Then late night radio host, Paris Gibson, received that ominous call from a mysterious fan. The caller, using the alias “Valentino”, advised the dumbfounded Gibson that his girl friend had dumped him in response to the advice Gibson had given her during an earlier call to the show. Valentino calmly advised Gibson that he was, first, going to exact revenge by killing his former lover in 72 hours. Then he was coming for Gibson! The clock was ticking and the hunt for a psychopathic killer was on.

Kidnapping, murder, sadism, psychopaths, rape, incest , pornography, child prostitution, sex clubs, the privilege of wealth – if author Sandra Brown made an explicit reference to a “kitchen sink”, I missed it! But I’m sure it’s there because nothing seems to have escaped the combine that she drove around to gather up the fodder for this exciting thriller. OK, OK … I admit it! I read it quickly because it was pretty compelling, gripping stuff. But the fact remains that the identity of the culprit shone like a lighthouse beacon and was just WAY too obvious. HELLO, DARKNESS also provided some interesting insights into the realities of pornography addiction and the trials of an ex-con attempting to assimilate into society.

Well done! Enjoyable and recommended for lovers of the thriller genre.

I have mixed feelings with this read. I think its easier to do a breakdown for this one. Here it is:

The pros:
* It did have a good balance of suspense
* The plot flowed well

The cons:
* There is cheating..........more than one instance - that’s not something I personally care for
* It seemed overly long and many of the details seemed redundant
* Way too many characters - it really took away from the main characters development
* Quite predictable

Overall, this book was just ok for me. I eagerly read it from beginning to end, but I still never fell in love with any of the characters or the storyline. I will still read more of this writers work though.

I think this is the best book I've read by SB!

The story is really interesting and the way it is told is simply perfect!
While reading I felt like I was watching an episode from Criminal Minds! It was awesome!

I love everything about this one: Paris, Dean, the story, the mystery, just everything!

Bravo Ms. Brown! *applause*

This was my first Sandra Brown book. I dunno. . .her writing just might not be for me, I think. The dialogue seemed so dry. I felt like I was reading a story about boring old people (lol, sorry!)

The mystery aspect wasn't too bad, though.

5 STARS!!!

My ultimate favorite of Ms. Brown's so far!! I admit that the second chance love story was a big factor on why I loved this book. I especially loved reading and discovering what happened in their past.

In other news, I have yet to guess right who the villain was, AGAIN. My dreams of being a cop is dwindling everday. Lol. ;)

This is an average story by Sandra Brown, I have read some better ones but this one is not bad.

Paris, the popular late night radio voice, gets a call from Valentino who tells her he is going to kill his ex-girlfriend. Paris calls the police and, to her surprise, her old-time love Dean becomes involved as a police psychologist. They have to catch the killer fast or the girl is going to die.

Most of the story focuses on the suspense and it's good. The intrigue, though sometimes lacking in development or logic, is entertaining. There are several suspects. In the end the killer turns out to be a person I have suspected the most and who I wished was a bad guy. I think I would be mad if he would be just one of the good guys, so it's okay. However, I didn't like the motives behind his actions, they are weak.

The romance part is minor. Dean and Paris used to love each other and even though she is not eager to come back to the old relationship they quite quickly rebuilt the feelings between them. That's okay but I couldn't truly found the passion and love between them.

I wish there is more interaction between Dean and his son since they make an interesting addition to the story.

Those who already read some books by Sandra Brown know what to expect by this one. This is one of those books it's nice to read but you wouldn't remember in a year.

Another intriguing, twisted suspense by one of the best! This one kept me guessing until the end as there are no less than three possible suspects to consider as the serial killer. I was continuously thrown off course by the numerous twists & turns in the complex storyline and by the cast including several characters hiding dark secrets. A Must Read!

CD/Romantic Thriller/Abridged: First a disclaimer; I used to work in radio in the 90s. That being said, you better get the technology and protocol correctly. The book had it wrong. The hardback to this book came out in 2003 and the radio station is in a large Texas market. I worked in three different stations in a small market and we had better technology. Paris chooses her own music log and it's hand written? Really? Radio stations went to CD in the 80s, but Paris is using cassettes? Four hour air shift and she plays no commercials, and her show isn't syndicated? How does she get paid? She happens not to play Valentino's calls live, but she usually plays calls live, unheard of.
As for the criminal profiler, Dean? He's not too bright because his profile fits the main suspect, but not the murderer. (Just in case you miss it, the police get it all wrong and technically do not catch the murderer).
The Romance is nonsense too. I couldn't stand the hero or the heroine, so I guess they deserve each other.

Not high literature, but it had me captivated from page 1, and sometimes that's really all I ask. I was completely drawn into the story and Sandra Brown kept me guessing until pretty much the very last moment. I did think - as I typically do with her books - that things got wrapped up too quickly, but she writes such a ripping good tale that I can forgive her for that.

That said, this is probably one of the best Sandra Brown novels I've read. The plot was fascinating and I enjoyed following the dynamics between the characters.

A cheating plot is not necessarily a deal-breaker for me. Hello, Darkness is one of those books with subplots of cheating affair between H/h in the past and H being with another woman at the present. Great character development, second chance romance and suspense make the book worth reading.

Gripping
Wow, i’m still in book hangover! Gripping, electrifying, captivating book. I loved its beautiful and excellent editing, didnt wait less from this author.
For suspense and thriller part i’d put 8 stars if i could! Although i did know who the “bad guy” was, she developed this story with exquisite dynamic.

As for romance- only 3 or less... For me it didnt feel right how the relationship between main characters started. I didnt like the hero.
Not safe read.

I won this novel in a goodreads drawing.

The staple of countless cheesy Lifetime Channel movies is the story of the radio talk show hostess who is stalked by the usual maniac. She meets with the usual love interest, and the usual things happen. It all seems so cliched, so by the numbers. Maybe it's because I saw a rerun of the old comedy show Sledge Hammer! with the exact same premise just before I started that I feel so jaded concerning this book.

But I don't think so.

Totally skippable book.

Seriously, love me some Sandy B and I’m gonna be honest I did not see the ending coming. I liked the romance piece but didn’t particularly love the cheating aspect of what happened.

🌀Synopsis
