Gothic horror, startling science fiction and the occult collide in this essential collection of cult British comics classic Misty!
"The most peculiar, imaginative and challenging work in British comics " - The New Statesman
In 1978 British comics were changed forever with the release of Misty, the classic cult horror comic for girls. Masterminded by Pat Mills, the original editor of 2000 AD, this weekly comic featured the best comics talent working on haunting, terrifying tales. From high 70s glamour to chilling stories that have haunted readers for decades, this Essential Collection curates the creepiest, campest Misty serials and short stories alongside critical essays, in a volume perfect for readers old and new.
For those old enough to remember, Misty was a weekly British comic which ran from 1978 for several years before merging with Tammy, (although the Christmas annuals continued to be published for another 6 years). The main reason Misty stood out from the rest was that it was a horror comic. There was nothing else like it for girls. It had a mix of serial stories and one shot tales; all filled with shadow and darkness. Misty annuals are like gold dust these days and most comics held by the most hallowed of collectors, BUT, the wonderful people at Rebellion Publishing have just released this stunning compilation of classics.
I LOVED Misty as a kid. I would go to my grandma’s every week and my special treat was the Misty comic sitting waiting for me there. I’d pour over it and even now, many decades later, I can still remember some of the stories, such was their impression on me.
Back in the day you’d have to wait months to get to the end of the serialisation of some of those stories, but now in 2023 four of them are brought together in their entirety within this magnificent hardback - alongside shorter stories, commentary and an incredible gallery of old covers.
This is a coffee table book like no other. Enjoy the artwork, read the commentary and savour the spooky tales of your childhood. 270 pages of shadow and darkness. Nothing could be better.
An incredible book, one of the best comics I've read all year. I have had no luck finding any original issues of Misty, and this book is the next best thing.
