About the author

LINDA SOLE also writes under the names of Anne Herries, Emma Quincey, Lynn Granville and one as Juliana Linden.

Linda was born in Swindon. Her family moved to Ely in Cambridgeshire when she was nine, and Linda attended the local school but left at fifteen to work as a hairdresser in her father's business. She was married at eighteen and ran her own hairdressing business for some years before moving to Cambridge, although Linda has now moved to somewhere a bit quieter in Cambridgeshire. She started writing in 1976, combining this with helping her husband to run his antique shop.

Writing as Anne Herries, Linda won the 2004 RNA Romance Award and the Betty Neels Trophy. She lives in Cambridgeshire. After many happy years of taking their holidays in Spain she and her husband, now have a second home in Norfolk. Being only a short drive, they can visit for a few days at a time, which suits their busy lifestyle these days. They are only just across the road from the sea, and can see it from their windows. At home and at the sea they enjoy watching the wildlife and have many visitors to their gardens, particularly squirrels. Anne loves watching their antics and spoils both them and her birds shamelessly. She also loves to see the flocks of geese and other birds flying in over the sea during the autumn, to winter in the milder climes of this country. Anne loves to write about the beauty of nature and sometimes puts a little into her books, though they are mostly about love and romance. She writes for her own enjoyment and to give pleasure to her readers.

I must thank Random House UK, Ebury Publishing via Net galley for a copy of this book for me to read and review.

I settled down to read this book, and part way through I thought it sounded like a book I had read a while ago. But hey, sometimes you get that where there are familiarity between books right?

Then I find its a book that was previously publish The Ties That Bind by Linda Sole way back in 1999

I get annoyed when publishers do this!!!

All I can say is, it was a lovely read back then and it was a good read this time around too, but I got halfway before realizing!

Rosie Clarke has to be my author of the year, I've read 7 books by her so far this year and loved every one!! I wouldn't normally read so many by one author in that space of time but if you want a heartwarming easy read (which has been much needed this year!!) these are the books to read!

Another cracking read.

I took a break from this writer for a while and needed a change. But found the others annoying as supposed to be English, but used Americanisms all the time. But I digress. This book started slowly, and very soon, I was absorbed into the book, the characters, and wanted to know what happened next. There are still a few books of hers to read, which I look forward to. 😀
Emma is similar to Maureen in the Mulberry Lane series, where she works in a shop for her father, and he keeps her on a tight rein. Obviously, she falls in love, falls for a baby, and her father gets her married off. Then her father fell ill, but unable to tell her where he left the money he had promised her, and her new husband wasn't good in the husband stakes, being a bully and drunkard.
All in all typical Rosie book.

This is my first book by Rosie Clarke and I have enjoyed her style of writing. She has you finding it quite difficult to put the book/ kindle down !
I'm already looking for the second book in the trilogy!

Emma is the young, naive daughter of a tyrannical father and abused mother. She is seduced by an upper class scoundrel, which leads to more tragedy. Will Emma ever find joy?
Emma is an entertaining, quick read. Small on exposition...no literary groundbreaker, but it does its job. It entertains. Those who read Rosie Clarke's "The Downstairs Maid" can expect similar plots and characters, but "Emma" is missing the amount of development and detail. Looking for a quick Cinderella tale to pass the time? "Emma" is your book! Looking for intricate plot lines and imagery? Look elsewhere.
