This book is a collection of news articles and interviews collected and published in 1980, shortly after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. With that in mind, it is an interesting look into the rationale used by the Soviet leadership for their intervention into that country, and suitable for any reader interested in Moscow's Afghan adventure. But, with the sources coming largely from Communist parties and their official news outlets, the "facts" are laughable. All in all, the book also provides an example of one theory of the USSR's failure to pacify the country- its black and white views that the spread of Communism was inevitable and such conflicts were backed by the native population, and any opposition to "Progressive" forces were reactionary mercenaries on Washington's payroll.
