And although they hired a babysitter, Kelly is excited to basically be on her own. But when her friends start disappearing one by one and the babysitter is nowhere to be found, Kelly starts getting scared . . . for real. Is Miss Mary's ghost kidnapping everyone? MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!

This is the third entry in the "Creepover" series, and it's at once the best and worst of the three. Written by Heather Alexander -- "P.J. Night" is the house pseudonym for this series -- it dishes up an eerie environment, an interesting plot, a likable protagonist, and a good supporting cast. But while the chills are sustained for over half the book, the reader can't help but become suspicious that there may be a non-supernatural explanation for all the spookiness. This is partly due to the fact that the ghost, for all the time it supposedly spends haunting Kelly, never does anything to her, but also because the book's overall plot mirrors that of Truth or Dare, the first Creepover book: weird things happen and a ghost is suspected, but in the end there are rational explanations for nearly everything. And, as in that book, here there is a final page hint that there really is something supernatural going on. But it's too late. Once the suspense has been cleared away, the reader feels a bit cheated, and there's nothing an author can do to fix that feeling.

Yes, I'm an adult, and maybe a very young child will be comforted by knowing there was nothing really frightening going on in the book. But he or she might also be as disappointed by that fact as I was. Hopefully, the rest of the books in this series will be more like book two, You Can't Come in Here! There the payoff is real, exciting, and totally unexpected.

I REALLY liked this book! I love reading scary books and this definitely scared me. It was one of the scariest books I've read! I have two other books from the series and I can't wait to read those! I just, for some strange reason, like to be scared if that makes any sense at all :p if u like scary books then I definitely recommend this book a ton. It's a really quick but good scary book!

This series just gets better. Each book in the series is a stand-alone just like The old fear Street series. This one is rated a 5 on the creep-o-meter and I must admit even I was "creeped" out more than normal on this one. LOVE IT and can not wait for more. :)

This book was so scary! Luckily, I don't think this could happen in real life. I couldn't figure out where everyone kept on disappearing to. and the brother and babysitter totally freaked me out! The end really surprised me when Kelly saw something with see-through skin and bones... could it be miss Mary??????????

Okay, so I accidentally read the 3rd book in the series, it was such a page turner, that I finished it in one day. Sure, it was short but I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I gotta admit, I wasn’t expecting it to be all a joke. I was pretty freaked though. Anyways, I loved everything about this book and I loved how much detail was put in this book. I seriously am still scared after reading this! 😉

This was easily the best of the Creepover books so far. I loved the concept, the creepiness level stayed high throughout, and P.J. Night did not disappoint. If this is how the next few Creepover books go then we may have a new R.L. Stine on our hands.

The next re-read is here and this time it is this spooky, but given the ending slightly disappointing read. Sleepovers, ghosts, and peppermint.

I have written a review in 2014 and I wanted to write a new review alongside of it. Bold is new, non-bold is the old.

The main character was so-so. I didn’t like her attitude of always trying to scare people. I keep wanting to tell her about the boy who cried wolf, in the end no one believed him. And I am sure that will happen to her to, should she continue with this. In the end there really will be a dangerous situation, and no one will believe her, rather laugh at her, with big consequences.
Speak the truth 6 year-ago me! I was so annoyed with this girl that she always had to scare her friends. Sorry, but if I had a friend like that? I would definitely not been around much longer. I like the scare people, but not constantly. It is not constantly on my mind to think of new spooky and creepy things. Just at times when the mood is right I want to scare someone. And I am also getting it back quite soon after. 😛 This girl should just calm down a bit and maybe find some more hobbies before people leave her. Also, I agree with my old review, I can see that happen. Boy cried wolf vibed, big ones.

I did like the whole sleeping party and the whole story that came out of that. But again, that ending. Urgh. It happens quite often in this series, awesome story and then bang, some explanation and gone is the scary mood. 🙁
Yep. The sleeping party was fun and I loved that the girls (and Spencer) were able to hold their sleepover despite the weather and the restrictions. Internet is amazing and it is great for things like this. It was fun to see them do all sorts of activities, though it all comes down to horror stories. The story itself was also creepy and it was good to read and I did get the goosebumps I wanted to have (because it is hot as hell here the past days), but yes, I agree again with me of 6 years ago, the ending ruined the mood. I would have loved to see something else rather than what we got here.

I am not sure how I feel about Gavin. I just found it odd that he was there to begin with. I mean, if my best friend had a sleepover/birthday celebration? I wouldn’t bring along someone new that no one knows yet. It was at times just so awkward and strange. Everyone didn’t know what to make of the situation.

I did like the cover, it is so spooky and haunting. I love the girl in the screen and the girl looking at us with menace and evil.

-1 star for disappointing ending. Let’s start with that. Man that ending was soooo disappointing. And not even that but the thing that happened before it. Let’s just say we had a totally awesome book, awesome scary events happening, and bang, bye bye scariness and hello lame explanation which ruined the book for me. I am just pretending that that didn’t happen and instead we continue with were we left off.
Yep, still agree with me here. The book makes it all scary and spooky and then we get x happening and the whole scariness bursts like a bubble. Then the author tries to make it creepy again, but for me the whole effect was ruined.

Still despite the ending that just ruined the mood. I had fun reading this one. It gave me some coolness in a hot couple of days. I still got a couple of these books left to re-read, now to decide which one is next.

Ready for a Scare? is a great book for those 6th and 7th graders who search and seek a few goose-bumps and thrillers. This is the third installment in a series titled Creepover. It is not overly scary and the story plot is predictable, yet fun and quick moving. Kelly and some friends are having a sleepover for Kelly’s birthday. Her parents have to leave town; they hire a slug of a babysitter who is not someone Kelly normally would interact with. After a few ghost stories the new techy way (camcorder/internet)… things (people and fun) begin to disappear. Once a few guests and the babysitter vanish, Kelly finds that this party is not what she wanted or is it?

I really enjoyed this book. I read this on a suggestion from one of my students. P.J. Night (by the way that is such a clever name) uses a lot of detail in her writing. She or He is always telling the reader what the characters are feeling, seeing, smelling, hearing and tasting. All the senses are used and painting a wonderful movie in my mind. If you like scary books you should pick this book up.

This was an ok read, not really what I expected. The story was quite interesting but in a way predictable. I still enjoyed it and for being a kids book it definitely would have been scarier if I was younger. I would recommend for younger readers for sure as it would be a good introduction into scarier stuff!

I am really enjoying this series. It's not as scary for me as I feel it would be for the intended audience, I think my nieces would completely freak out over this one!

Didn't like the characters so much this time around but the story itself was good.

This book had a really cool creepy vibe throughout but that ending made the whole book a letdown honestly. I guess since this is a book targeting younger kids it makes sense why but it could’ve been such a great book!

A well written heart pounding thriller with an unexpected ending. The word search and scary story writing prompt are great mental challenges at the end of the book.

For my October Book of The Month, I read You’re Invited to a Creepover. The main character in this story is Kelly. She is planning to have a sleepover with her friend, but this is tragically ruined by the horrible weather that they experience in the story. Kelly is overall the main character, but some of the other characters that are in the story are Kelly’s Friends, Spencer, Paige, and June. They all decide to have a virtual sleepover with their webcams. As you learn in the story, Kelly and her friends call the spirit of Ms. Mary. She tragically died by being suffocated by the heaviest of snow on her body. She supposedly died on Christmas alone in the cold. Soon, Kelly witnesses her friends disappear one by one. Kelly notices that Paige and June were missing from their webcam box. Both of their boxes are a mysterious red color.
I had a really strong connection with Kelly. She likes to scare other people and play tricks on them, but once this happens to her she feels off kilter. She is mildly convinced that Ms. Mary’s spirit is stealing all her friends from her. Another connection that I made was my love of horror movies. It is always the story of the main character losing all of her friends and having to stick with the weird kids that seems a bit off. Many of the characters in this story are very convincing when they scare Kelly. For example, Kelly’s babysitter is usually a very happy go lucky person, but when she scares Kelly she is a stiff, lifeless being. Kelly’s brother is also convincing. He stares at the TV acting as a hollow shell of a human.
I would definitely recommend this book to people that love horror and suspense. This novel will have you on the edge of your seat. It is also a very short read for anyone that is willing to read a fun, but short story. The word choice is absolutely brilliant, and the structure is well formatted in each paragraph. I also love the design on each chapter cover. It shows the horror of the story. This novel is a 10/10 in my book!

This was such a pleasant surprise! After the mediocrity of the first book and the utter mess that was the second, the third book in the Are You Ready for a Creepover series finally gets it right. It's genuinely well written (especially considering its target audience) with spot-on horror story tension and exactly the ending I was hoping for! Some readers may disagree with me on how satisfying the ending is, but for me, this is easily some of the best kidlit I've read in a while.

It is so suspensful, I love it! It has all the things I love about books like the Creepover series, with the paranormal, suspense, and the most important, it sends chills up my spine!!! What I love about this book is, how it started of with, Mary clawing at the snow, trying to escape as someone drags her in the snow, "Why did I answer that call when that kind lady said Miss Mary? Miss Mary is that you?" That start of the book starting building suspense that I couldn't stop reading! It's an Amazing book, and I recommend it to anyone who is thinking of reading it.

Actually has some good, genuinely creepy scares for the age level this one is aiming for, which is not always the case with these middle grade horror books. It bums me out a bit that the ending sorta falls into that “well, we can’t let things get TOO sinister or scary at the end” trap that many books for this age level do, but even still, I’m trying to keep in mind who the target audience is for this, and this I’m rating it accordingly, as I think young kids looking for some frights would actually quite enjoy this one.

My 5 year old daughter loves horror. Goosebumps, Series of Unfortunate Events, and Creeped Out are her favorite shows. We started the Creepover series and book one was great. Unfortunately this one was very boring to the both of us. And the ending, if you can even call it that, was terrible. We waited and waited for the apparition to show up and on the last page the author finally convinces you the ghost is real and BAM the book ends!!! What a let down!

This was nice, really nice. The build-up towards the ending was everything and for someone who viewed herself as a scare queen she didn't even see it coming. The ending was most appropriate in my eyes, I felt as though I wouldn't have gotten over it and on to the next one if it was anything different.

Much better than the second one the plot I could never guessed the plot twist and the uncertainity after the plot twist is release which is typical for this series is also done great.
I hope the books after this one are as good.
