Fallen From Disgrace

Rate this book
Rosella Cartwright wakes up in the hospital after a yearlong coma with no recollection of who she used to be. Her only clue is that everyone around her despises and avoids her. Then, she discovers the before she was hospitalized, she was the most wanted maniac of New York's criminal underbelly.

Disgusted by reports of her own heinous crimes, she attempts to reform herself, but her efforts are in vain as society continues to cast her out in hatred and fear. All the world seems against her until she is offered a job by Daniel Ryan, a rising executive and self-made success who hides a lifetime of inner turmoil behind a façade of cool indifference. Drawn to his mystery as he is by her irrepressible darkness, Rosella starts falling for Daniel, but love can't save her from her past. A former victim of hers wants revenge, and will stop at nothing to get it. Her partners in crime want her back by their side, though she wants nothing more to do with them. And a sinister plot of her own design, buried beneath her amnesia, is, unbeknownst to her, still very much in progress. These are the monsters she will have to fight off alone, and if she doesn't watch her step, she might not make it out alive.

Review Of Fallen From Disgrace By Mindy MacKay

This book was a total mind f*ck for lack of a better word and trust me I mean it in a good way. I started this book last night and was up til 4AM to finish it because I just had to know the outcome. Needless to say having to get up at 7AM left me dragging my butt and even that couldn't stop the scenes from the book playing out in my head one last time. I don't know how Mindy did it but she was able to get into the head of a sociopath. The last time I felt this blown away by a deranged person was when I read The Silence Of The Lambs and Red Dragon By Thomas Harris. Rosella Cartwright wakes up from a year long coma with amnesia and everyone in the world shrinking from her presence. Little by little Rosella finds out that she is a monster of the worst kind. She ran a house called La Forteresse du Libertinage were Rosella and her three other cohorts performed heinous acts on their victims. At first Rosella tries to come out of the shadows of her former life but as time goes on she finds herself acting more and more like her old self. This story also revolves around her relationship with her sister Euphemia, her victims Zoey Ryan and Kyle Brubaker, and her boss Daniel Ryan Zoey's husband. Little by little we learn of how the two girls grew up and what caused them to choose the path that have chosen in like. Euphemia because a cop were as Rosella turns to a life of indescribable horror. I am afraid to say too much because I so don't want to spoil this book for anyone. On a scale from 1-10 I give this book a 10. If you love a good psychological thriller with some mind blowing revelations laced with a tinge of hot sex this is so the book for you. It grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go til the very end when you are gasping for breath at the outcome.

If you decide to kill, the only difficulties will be the external ones. Nothing inside you will ever protest. - Martha Stout Ph.D., The Sociopath Next Door: The Ruthless vs. the Rest of Us

after being comatose for a year, Rosella Cartwright wakes up with no memory of who she is. when she is released from the hospital, she wonders why people shun and fear her company. through newspaper reports and the gradual return of her autobiographical memory, she discovers the atrocities she has committed. as she integrates herself back to society, she learns more about the darkness that was her world and wonders if the light at the end of the tunnel will remain closed to her...
hypnotic, gritty, twisted and chilling are but some words to describe how i regard this story. author Minda MacKay shatters and endangers our peaceful world with the presence of her main character. she dares to invite us to peek into and probe the mind of a sociopath.
what goes on inside is not for the faint-hearted. descriptions of torture and other heinous acts are found yet they are integral to the story. after all, it deals with an individual who has no conscience. despite the dark theme, however, it is also about love, hope and redemption.
i really liked the development of all the characters and how their roles and interactions were played out. the writer kept the number of her players to a minimum but each had a significant contribution to the whole plot.
my only major niggle is that Rosella's sister Euphemia who "cracked the most twisted operation of her career as a police detective" and who "read over the case files" failed to know that her boyfriend Kyle was one of Rosella's victims! how could Euphemia not have seen that piece of information? how could she not have known? maybe i missed it somehow but this was a huge bother for me.
nevertheless, this book kept me reading late into the night. unmindful of my nook getting heavy in my hand, i could not stop until i found out how it concluded and boy, was i in for a big surprise!

When I saw the cover of this book and reading all words written on it, I was little bit worried that I would not enjoy the whole story. Because I am totally new with this kind of genre. But AGAIN!!!, what I kept in my mind about this book was completely wrong. I think I should stop doing such preconception since the story, the characters and the plot grabbed my attentions in the first place. The more I read, the more I wanted to know what happen next.

In the beginning they have told me that Rosella Cartwright was up to no good. I did understand why all people gave jeer, mockery, or gibe to her. I couldn't help myself but kept my sympathy for her. I thought it was just unfair. She lost her memory. She did not deserve such cold shoulders.

After Rose, her sister, Euphemia was the second character that I liked. I awed the way she treated Rose. She got a huge heart. She did not have kept any grudge despite she has known what Rose kept for years. However many times I got annoyed with this. She was just too innocent. Another character that took my attention was Daniel. He was not only smart, he also got a great instinct. That almost closed my eyes.

Unfortunately, what I expected from last chapter did not happen at all. I was so disappointed. In my opinion, Rose and all the characters deserved better ending. In the first few pages, I lost my interest. I felt that it brought me back to the beginning.

Out of the ending, I enjoyed this book. I liked all the friction and clashes especially when Zoey was there. I did expect Mindy wrote more about Gregoire. I think I'd love to read another book of Mindy Mackay.

Cover
I think they should have not put Erotic word in the cover. Because I think this book does not really belong to that genre. And about the model, Rose in my mind was better than her. :D

Title Thoughts: I'm not sure what I think...actually, you know. It just truly hit me. It fits perfectly.
Cover Thoughts: I love it. It's dark and the woman on the front accurately displays the Rosella.
WARNINGS: A little bit of sex.

Wow. This book was nothing like I expected. Not even close and thank goodness for that because this is definitely unlike anything I've ever read. It is a little horrific at times, but I was captured from the very first word.

The characters were done exceptionally well. The story just blew my mind. Here was this serial killer who lost her memory and given a new slate. Kind of. The most crazy things happen throughout the book. I don't mean crazy as in they didn't fit or couldn't have actually happened. They could. But the events were a little eye opening.

I was truly addicted to this novel. I had to find out what would happened with these characters. And the ending! Never even saw that coming!

Addict's Last Words: I definitely think you guys should read it. SOON!

To Buy or To Borrow: Buy. No doubt. My copy did have maybe 3 typos top, though.
