著名学者朱学勤曾说，于阳先生潜心十年研究的成果《江湖中国》是一部了不起的著作，是应该静下心来仔细研读的图书。它解释了当今社会很多的陋规，即广泛存在的潜规则。他将狭义的江湖理解为帮派等组织，将广义的江湖理解为江湖化了的人群，例如广泛存在的关系网。该书通俗易懂，但又站在学术的立场上进行解释，可谓高屋建瓴，具有很强的批判使用价值。
