(Arabic: جوزيف ميرفي)
Joseph Murphy was a Divine Science minister and author.

Murphy was born in Ireland, the son of a private boy's school headmaster and raised a Roman Catholic. He studied for the priesthood and joined the Jesuits. In his twenties, an experience with healing prayer led him to leave the Jesuits and move to the United States, where he became a pharmacist in New York (having a degree in chemistry by that time). Here he attended the Church of the Healing Christ (part of the Church of Divine Science), where Emmet Fox had become minister in 1931.

In the mid 1940s, he moved to Los Angeles, where he met Religious Science founder Ernest Holmes, and was ordained into Religious Science by Holmes in 1946, thereafter teaching at the Institute of Religious Science. A meeting with Divine Science Association president Erwin Gregg led to him being reordained into Divine Science, and he became the minister of the Los Angeles Divine Science Church in 1949, which he built into one of the largest New Thought congregations in the country. In the next decade, Murphy married, earned a PhD in psychology from the University of Southern California and started writing. After his first wife died in 1976, he remarried to a fellow Divine Science minister who was his longstanding secretary. He died in 1981.

A very good self-help. Also about conditioning of subconscious mind and manifestation, positivity, etc. The writer says things in two parts:- 1. Your Right to be Rich & 2. The Road to Riches; in this book.

One thing I can’t stand about books in this category of self-improvement/development (or law of attraction) is the inconsistency between the synopsis and the material found inside. I re-read over the synopsis of the book at Amazon and the Goodreads just to make sure that this review is accurate. In that, I took How to Attract Money thinking it was about law of attraction, which it is but there is a spin: God. There’s nothing about god being the main source of this book’s material. The title says How to Attract Money, a more appropriate title would be How to Become Rich with God.
This is not about money. Not at all.
I’m agnostic, therefore I don’t go out of my way to discount anyone’s believes. What you believe is yours to keep. But I will not stand for picking up a book with a clear synopsis and then have delivered something about God and how this belief system will lead to abundance. Sometimes this thought idea is slipped in for a sentence or two. That would be fine. But this book is brimfull of the divine content. Every story shared from individuals comes with gratitude toward their god. For me the content is disturbing to read. It’s pushing something onto me that should be filtered slowly if you would like for me to believe. It’s almost forced down my throat. I couldn’t stand it a bit.
There’s a book titled Life Without Limits by Nick Vujicic in which I dedicated a hefty review on the subject. The synopsis said nothing about God or his relation that the book would fall heavily on his belief system. Taken as an honest review I can see that they changed the whole structure of the synopsis so that it reads that he’s faithful to God. This was not the case by the time I posted that review.
It’s strange how book distributers will allow this to go on until someone complains because it will affect their reviews. Having posted that to begin with would have had me away from the book, leaving one less negative review. It saves me time to post have this knowledge upfront through the synopsis.
It may not seem like a great deal, but money is behind that purchase. Money that I was hoping to learn more about through the title, right?
No.
I cannot recommend this book to anyone save for those with religious beliefs. If that is you, please don’t push this onto someone without that same level of belief system. I hope this never happens again.
On the subject of money, there is little being said that hasn’t been said before. Seriously, there is nothing original in within. Just a short book about not depending on money but depend on God. God should be your richness.
Well, thanks for sharing that. Next time post it on the synopsis and you won’t receive a negative review for dupping the reader into something that is not the advertised.

I love Joseph Murphy and am always inspired by him, also by this short, well-written book.

He tells us that poverty is a disease like any other mental disease. God wants us to be happy, prosperous and successful.

Wealth is a state of consciousness.

He advises us to perform this simple exercise. Stand in front of a mirror and repeat “Health, wealth and success”. Saying this creates no opposition in our minds, as will affirmations such as “I am a millionaire”, “I am extremely wealthy”, etc. Murphy states that amazing results will follow from regularly carrying out this exercise.

Inner action precedes all outer action.

We learn that we can receive comfort by meditating on the great psalms. For example: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

We need to completely reject the evidence of the senses and give “complete recognition to the spiritual Power within (you) as the only Cause, the only Power, and the only Presence”.

We should say to ourselves freely and joyously during the day, “I walk in the consciousness of the Presence of God all day long”.

We should also say frequently during the day: “God is the source of my supply, and all my needs are met at every moment of time and point of space; there is always a divine surplus.”

Or, “God is the source of my supply, and that supply is mine now.” Or, “There is a divine solution. God’s wealth is my wealth.”

Also, we should release our request with faith and confidence, just as we would cast a seed on the ground or mail a letter to a friend, knowing the answer would come.

“All the riches of heaven are here now within you waiting to be released. Peace, joy, love --- and abundance all exist now. All that is necessary is for you to leave the present now (your limitation) ---- and ---- become one with your ideal.”

In short, this is another inspiring Joseph Murphy book. Highly recommended!

Month's end is approaching and waiting eagerly for salary. I try to materialize few $$ by trying this book, however, it is not so easy. What I understand reading the book that we have negative stereotype in our mind which runs like program such as we are too small to reach post like CEO, we will never be able to live Buckinghum Palace or we can not drive Lamborghini so on and so forth.

However, we may not wish for extreme lavishness however, everybody has right to live a comfortable, wealthy, prosperous and healthy life. So, this book is prescribing method to do this. The summary is "Man is belief expressed".

Learn how to attract a life of wealth and possibility.

When you imagine being rich, what do you actually picture? You might think of a beautiful mansion with luxury cars parked outside. Maybe you picture sipping champagne on a yacht at sunset. Or maybe it’s sending your children to an expensive school for a world-class education.

Whatever you imagine, there’s probably something in common. You’re imagining an experience that involves being happy, healthy and supported. Money is not what makes you happy or fulfilled, but money allows you to live a full, happy life.

It’s your right to be rich. You deserve to live a happy, healthy and abundant life, and that means you deserve to have the means you support that life. So if you’re interested in changing your attitude toward money, and attracting wealth in the process, look no further than this book.

-

Don’t romanticize poverty

We are conditioned to think that money is evil. Movies and TV shows love to portray money as a corrupting force. But money isn’t some mystical thing driving people towards bad behavior. It’s a system for swapping goods and services.

There is nothing inherently evil about money, and wanting more is not an evil thought. In fact, thinking about money as evil can be very dangerous.

Let’s change our perception a little by thinking about money as a symbol of exchange.

When you think, “I want more money”, what you’re actually thinking is that you want the capacity to do things that require money. For you, that could be anything from buying your partner a beautiful piece of jewelry, to just wanting to buy groceries without worrying your card will bounce. Money is not the goal, the goal is something that money facilitates.

It’s not evil to want a better life. In fact, it’s one of the most natural desires for a human. Security, health, happiness, an education, a future for your children – none of these things are evil. So why would it be evil to want the tool that allows you to achieve them?

Often, people have a subconscious aversion to pursuing their financial goals because they think that poverty is virtuous and wealth is evil.

Of course, people can do awful things for money, and can do awful things with the money they have. But when we consider money as a symbol of exchange, rather than an end in itself, money as “evil” starts to seem like superstition. The same electricity that powers your house could just as easily kill someone, but that doesn’t make it evil. Nor does it make a dark room somehow virtuous.

Our ingrained ideas about wealth impact our relationship with money. So if you want to improve your financial reality, you need to address your subconscious negative thoughts around it. Let’s look at how.

-

What you believe shapes your life

Our beliefs create our reality. This is a core concept not only in psychology but also in faith. And it means that the only thing preventing you from living an abundant life is you believing that you can’t.

The author once worked with an Australian man who desperately wanted to be a doctor, but didn’t have the money for college and hadn’t even finished high school. He made a living by cleaning for the doctors he wanted to be like.

In that situation, it’s easy to be taken over by negative thoughts. “I’m not smart enough.” “I’ll never be able to pay for it.” “I’m too old.”

Instead, the man went to bed each night imagining his name on the diplomas he had to clean. He didn’t accept the negative doubts or assumptions, and committed to the dream. When one of the doctors in the office found out, he started training the man to become a technical assistant. He was taught how to sterilize instruments, prepare injections and do some basic first aid.

Seeing the student’s passion and talent, this doctor eventually paid for him to finish high school and go to medical school. He ended up becoming a prominent doctor in Montreal. The man had turned his dream into a conviction, paving the way for its fulfillment.

By interrupting negative assumptions, you open the way for new possibilities in your reality. Your actions are often impacted by the subconscious movements of your mind, inner feelings and convictions. By influencing the subconscious, you’re setting the North on a compass that you’re compelled to follow in the deepest sense. Naturally, you’re guided toward success.

-

How to change your mind

“Think positive” isn’t exactly groundbreaking advice, and it’s easier said than done. After all, a lot of our negative thoughts are subconscious or intrusive.

But if wealth comes from a state of mind, then one way to impact that is through affirmations.

Relax into a meditative state. You might choose to do this whilst falling asleep at night, or if you have a quiet moment during the day. Let your mind wander over questions about wealth. What does it actually mean? Where does wealth come from? How does money flow?

Once you’re relaxed, repeat affirmations of wealth to yourself. For the author, this is synonymous with prayer. He explains that God created an abundance in the world, and wealth is always flowing freely. That means that prayers of financial affirmation will help us to overcome subconscious blocks that keep us from wealth.

If you’re starting out with affirmations, just trying to tell yourself “I am wealthy” or “I am successful” doesn’t work. Saying things that you believe to be false can actually strengthen your belief in the opposite. If you only have ten cents in your pocket, you might feel embarrassed or ashamed in calling yourself wealthy.

You’ll want to start with affirmations that your conscious and subconscious can agree on. “My wealth is growing.” “Every day I am more successful.” It’s easier for you to agree that things are on an upward slope than to imagine they are already at the top.

As your relationship with money and success become more positive, more ambitious affirmations will become easier. If you treat the end as inevitable, the steps toward it are always possible.

-

Stealing from yourself

By now we’ve learned that in order to attract money, you need to foster positive ideas around your own wealth and financial situation. But this also means being conscious of how you think about other people’s wealth.

Feelings of jealousy, envy and bitterness all damage your relationship with your finances. If you allow these feelings to grow unchecked, you are feeding the parts of your subconscious that believe you are lacking, and that keep you from harnessing your own potential.

Imagine a colleague has just gotten a promotion over you. If your response to this is that you feel robbed, you begin to psychologically disengage with the company or your work. It’s easy to be caught up in what thing was “taken” from you. But if you guide yourself into feeling happy for that colleague, you are able to stay engaged and foster the relationships that could help you succeed in the future.

Similarly, gaining wealth at the expense of others can negatively affect your relationship with money. Consider the example of a woman who, during a war, knew that coffee would be rationed. She went from shop to shop, buying out as much coffee as she could store in her house. Later, when she was out, someone broke in and stole the entire stock, as well as her jewelry and silver.

The lady would claim that she had never stolen herself. However, she was in a mindset of lacking, and hoarding coffee was at the expense of everyone else. By allowing her negative thoughts to guide her, she negatively impacted others, and created exactly the thing that she was afraid of. Fear of lacking created lacking.

Remember that money is the symbol of exchange. Having money itself does not make you wealthy, but money is a mechanism for experiences or feelings of stability. If the means by which you’re gaining money negatively impact your experiences or feelings in the future, you’re simply stealing from your future self.

Ask yourself, “What is the purpose of attracting money?” This isn’t a trick question, or an attack on the morality of having money. It’s a reminder not to lose sight of the goal in pursuit of the symbol.

-

Improving your psychological relationship with your finances is the key to attracting money. Training your subconscious to have positive thoughts about money will lead to better decisions and a wealthier life.

Your beliefs shape your reality, so be aware of how you see your own wealth and that of others, and use positive affirmations to address your subconscious doubts about your own capacity for wealth. You are the captain of your ship. Point it in the direction you want to go, and the rest will follow.

You are entirely capable of living a life that is abundant, and to have the money to support that life. The only thing that’s holding you back is you.

A riqueza abundante do Universo é tangível a todos.

"Man is belief expressed."

A self-help book on how to get rich usually tells you a set of realistic and doable steps you can do to attain the wealth of your dreams. This book is not specifically that kind I was referring to. This is a profound and basic understanding, told through a few anecdotes and relevant tales, of the power of our subconscious mind paving the way to mental and spiritual wealth before attaining riches in other aspect or form (especially money). A short and quick read to condition your mind in order to align it to the desires of your heart so that the path to the road of riches will unravel itself in front of you.

Interesting read, especially in light of how much of it still applies today. Most of the references to financial crises (1929) can be updated to 2008 and the references to God, religion, and faith can be substituted with secular references and none of the points would be lost. Bottom line, money isn’t evil, but the pursuit of money (or anything) without consideration of others might be bad. More so, the notion that the Universe will provide if we’re collaborative and have faith (+ action) makes as much sense now, and has as much support in the current environment as it ever did. All of that is to say, this book is solid. If it were modernized, I’d have probably given it 5-stars.

Fast read, great info

If you are following the author, get his complete collection under one title in Amazon. It includes this title and more. If you want to check out his philosophy first, read it for free under Kindle unlimited. His basic premise is you are what you think and believe. He has some good prayer/affirmations example stories to attract money. Note to note it and recite it everyday for at least 5 minutes to see positive results. There are some lessons worth hearing in this book.
Though some questionable claims about Prayers and God,
make me question how much I should listen to the Author.

I wouldn't have finished the book, if it hadn't been
recommended to me by a VERY RICH friend.

But his The Wealth Choice by Dennis Kimbro recommendation
is a much better book, and I'd say much more worth your time.

Especially because it contains more actionable information.
Not just inspiration, seeing how hard people worked
to overcome obstacles along the way.

Clear take

I found this book an easy read, and will be going through it several times and writing & typing out the affirmations/statements/prayers to follow daily, as well as following the instruction of putting myself there mentally (subjectively) to experience it physically (objectively). Obsensky & the monk tale was the most challenging to breakdown but I know as I keep reading I will get it. Stay viligent as to what you feed your mind, Everyone.

Wow. Who would have "Thought"

I heard the term "believe to succeed". I read "think and grow Rich" and did not understand it and read one about how to think or how to own your mind. Which helped. But this book here, really doesn't talk about money. But how you can change your mindset to obtain it. And how to work towards it . This is a good book. It really helped me with how to try and change my thinking.

Great for spiritually inclined readers

I loved the spiritual concept of the book and had plenty of takeaway quotes from it which I will include in my personal work on how to attract money in my life. The only small criticism that I have is that the book was too small and felt a bit repetitive at times. Other than that, I’ve found very valuable information in it and now I look fotward to reading more books from this author.

Excellent book teaching the reader about faith and the mind and how it all connects to what God has given his creation. We have the power within us and prayers are answered by imagination. So much goodness in this book. This is a book I will read over and over. It has so many Bible verses that I’ve never clearly understood until I read this book.

Brief but valuable

Murphy expresses the same principles in other books, but this is a great compact dose of his core ideas on how to achieve prosperity thru creative thought and affirmative prayer. This book works well as either a solid intro to Murphy or a happy recharge for those who have read his work before.
