Before topping multiple bestseller lists—including those of the New York Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal—award winning author Elisabeth Naughton taught middle school science. A voracious reader, she soon discovered she had a knack for creating stories with a chemistry of their own. The spark turned into a flame, and Elisabeth now writes full-time.

Though primarily known for her romantic suspense work, Elisabeth has penned over thirty books and continues to write in multiple genres, including paranormal romance and contemporary romance. Her books have been translated into numerous languages and have earned several award nominations, including three prestigious RITA® nominations from Romance Writers of America. In 2017, REPRESSED, the first book in her Deadly Secrets series, won the RITA® for best romantic suspense.

Elisabeth's work has been praised by the Chicago Tribune as being filled with "deadly intrigue, high adrenaline action, and scorchingly hot passion.” Kirkus calls her "a writer talented enough at weaving a yarn to get her readers ensnared in it.” When not dreaming up new stories, Elisabeth can be found spending time with her husband and three children in their western Oregon home, wrangling two cats, or chasing after one very rambunctious Dalmatian.

Loved it! As romance suspense stories go, it was really good. It had a tight, believable suspense story (I did not roll my eyes even once, which is hard to do with the romance suspense genre!), and it never lost focus on the romance. the story moved at a frantic pace, but was easy to follow along. Great writing.

The story reunites old lovers, and what a reunion! Fast, furious and crazy action takes them on a life or death chase for survival. Pete, a wealthy antiques dealer with a questionable past, fell in love with Kat six years ago while in Egypt. Kat, a young archiologist working on digs and giving tours, fell crazy in love with Pete - only to find herself deeply involved in a crime ring involving stolen artifacts. Not knowing who to trust, she fakes her death. Pete believed her dead. Now, it is six years later... Wow!! What a ride!

The heat was good too, a lot of tension and a few hot passionate love scenes. I'd rated it steamy warm to mild hot. It's not erotica, but there is always an underlying sexual chemistry and tension going on. If you haven't read the first book, no worries. The characters are losely related, and the story is 100% independant of the first book. The original hero/heroine make a small appearance, but its insignificant.

DNF @ 20%.

Intrigue wasn't intriguing enuf to keep me going. Romance was going nowhere fast. Obviously H/h have a history and still have the chemistry, but the way H is reacting to h after all these years is really weird. One minute desperate for her, the next telling her how she fucked up in so many ways, etc.

Just can't get into this at all.

Stolen Heat is the second book in the Stolen Trilogy by Elisabeth Naughton. Stolen Heat is the story of Katherine (Kat) Meyers, an Egyptologist. Kat is the love interest of antiquities dealer Peter Kauffman. Peter was introduced in Stolen Fury as Rafe Sullivan’s best friend and gallery owner. In Stolen Fury, Pete’s previous relationship and subsequent heartbreak was alluded to. In this book, we get the full story.

Six years earlier, Pete meets Kat at an archaeological dig tour in Egypt. He pursues Kat and they have a torrid affair. Unknown to Kat, Pete is dealing in antiquities with questionable provenance. Meanwhile Kat has unearthed a plot to steal archaeological treasures from her site. She reports the theft and her life changes drastically and Kat, with the assistance of CIA operative Martin Slade, fake her death in a fiery car crash.

Some people may not like the way the story unfolds. Told in the present, and then flashing back six years, the author slowly explains the nature of Kat and Pete’s relationship. Each flashback unearths another layer in their relationship, almost like an relationship archaeological dig. It is obvious that Pete never got a chance to mourn his loss of Kat and the fact that she suddenly appears back in his life causes him anger and great distress. Not to mention that as they get reacquainted the people chasing Kat have drugged him, shot at Kat, and are trying to kill them both.

I loved the sexual tension between Kat and Peter. It really felt perfect for a couple who had been separated for six years and a faked death. Again, the secondary characters in this book were fun, especially barracuda lady Maria. The villains in this book were especially heinous and cruel.

I found the book was thrilling and I basically read it in one sitting. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series Stolen Seduction.

Series Note: Although the characters in the books are connected, there is no ongoing storyline so the books can be read as stand alones.

Six years ago, when Peter Kaufmann, a dealer in ancient artifacts, first met Egyptologist Katherine Meyer, he didn’t always play by the rules. Their intense attraction and romance encouraged him to take a different path, but the change came too late with devastating consequences. Now Kat has literally returned from the dead and with her the secrets and lies that could lead both Pete and her to their deaths, or perhaps, open the door to their future. Which will it be?

Much of the book is related in flashback to Kat and Pete’s first meeting and affair in Egypt. These chapters are interspersed among the current day chapters, which may pull some readers out of the story. For me, they served to enhance the slow build up of Kat and Pete’s second chances romance as they reveal the intensity of their past relationship and strengthen their current bond. It is through the intermingling of these flashbacks that readers see who Kat and Pete were in the past and how they have grown into the people they are today - a more mature couple capable of deeper love and forgiveness.

The suspense plot is complex with numerous characters with their own agendas. It is difficult keeping track of them all but the action is exciting and the resolution satisfying.

All in all, an enjoyable read and recommended for those who enjoy second chance romances. Hailey and Shane’s book is up next.

Stolen Heat was a winner in the suspense stakes, but a loser in the romance.

While Pete and Kat were together for most of the book, emotionally they were very much apart - for far too long for my liking. I can understand the reason for this distance - Kat did fake her death six years earlier in the midst of a passionate, if brief, relationship with Pete - but books like this, where open and honest communication would go a long way in resolving the 'misunderstanding', really get my goat.

I did like the egyptian setting in the flashbacks, and the gesture Pete made when he finally understood Kat's motivation (not that she bothered to share it, he had to work it out himself once he got past all his anger etc. etc. yada yada) was nicely done, but not enough to make up for the preceding hundreds of pages of unnecessary angst.

To be fair, I enjoyed the writing, and I even quite liked Pete and Kat. If the thought of an issue that drags on and could be resolved by the hero and heroine actually talking about it doesn't bother you, then you will likely enjoy this one much more than me.

Well ... I really liked the first one. The characters were great, the interactions were good and the plot kept me reading, so I wasn't concerned when I picked the second part of the triology and it started all good. Right from the start I was drawn into the story and was really interested to see how Pete and Kat get back together.

But then the one thing happened I really dislike: flashbacks. I don't know really why, I just do. I hardly care about them on TV shows, but I can stand them in books. It's just something I don't need. I prefer to get the information throughout the current story, just drop them in a conversation or when a character thinks about it or whatever, just don't give me pages and pages of past events. I actually started skiping them at point, because they bore the hell out of me and I guess that's the reason why I couldn't get back in the story, cos I really like Pete and Kat together when they were on the run and trying to get to know eacht other again.

So this is more a personal thing, which makes the book not so good for me.

If I could, I'd give this book more than 5 stars. It grabbed me right from the start and did not let go. I loved everything about this book. It was a fantastic story, fast paced, action filled, an H&H that I loved. The romance was good and the heat enough to satisfy me. I could not ask for more.

This is the first book I've read by Elisabeth Naughton. It's also the second book in a series. I have bought the first book and do plan on reading it in the near future.

Thank You KarlynP for the recommendation.

The second book in her Stolen series, Stolen Heat bounces to and from past and present as we see how the relationship between Peter Kaufmann and Katherine ‘Kat’ Meyer started while also following them while on the run for their lives.

I loved the real response from Pete when he realises that Kat had not, in fact, died six year ago. The tension between them as they try to outrun the enemies, didn’t jump from angry to ‘back in love’ within a scene or two. The gradual belief and trust that they have to re-earn in each other is explored and unveiled through the story, and better strengthens their love for each other when they do decide to let go of the past and embrace the future.

Of course, the sexual chemistry between the two was very palpable. Both in their past and their present – there was no denying how much they still wanted each other, even when their heads told them that it was not a good idea.

The one thing which had me scratching my head were all the ‘Letter’ agencies involved. FBI, CIA, ELA, INTERPOL, and there were others. I don’t know much about them and their ‘jurisdiction’ seeing as I’m from Australia and I only know a little bit from the movies (which I obviously take with a grain of salt!) so it was a little bit confusing at times, but I was still able to follow where the story was taking me and understand the basics of it.

Stolen Heat was an easy read that kept me interested all the way through. A great romantic suspense novel that gripped me from the beginning and had me on the run with the characters all the way through.

Meh I wish I liked this more.

The premise was really good and I am no stranger to reading romantic suspense involving archeology, but this book felt really dated to me or like it was meant for a different demographic maybe.

Pete and Kat's story felt lacking for me. The story goes back and forth between flashbacks and current timelines and the development between the two is pretty slow and the characters felt two dimensional. Something I also didn't appreciate was how many acronyms were in the story but the author didn't explain what they were. I know what some of them were but I felt like stating what things are instead of having readers guess or have to google would be helpful.

I did eventually get more invested in the story and characters and I don't think Naughton's writing is bad by any means. I just think how this story played out doesn't really align with my reading preferences. Maybe I will try another book of hers in the future.

I am in love with this series and this book just that love grow a lot more! Pete and Kat were incredible together and they had some pretty serious baggage to bring to their story, which is ALWAYS a very good thing in my book. Their dynamic always kept you on your toes thinking if that was the time when everything was going to be alright between them and they would live happily ever after. It was very refreshing to me that their past and present problems didn't get some kind of closure right at the beginning of the story, but the plot was very developed and made everything that much sweeter in the end. Amazing!

This is probably more like 3.5 stars. It was a good read but I felt it jumped around a little too much between past and present and that made it difficult for me to get really absorbed in it. I liked the plot and the characters but still felt like I could put it down more easily than usual (but I did pick it right back up). It was still an enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to Hailey's story.

Stolen Heat

Pete and Kat met while both in Egypt and had an affair. Pete was a under handed artifacts guy and Kat a egyptologist. Things were good but it was mostly sex and no personal info on Pete's part which bothered Kat. Kat believed someone was stealing their findings from the cave. Then two of her friends turn up dead and she is scared. Kat faked her death and Pete is devastated and wishes he was more honest with kat. Because of Kat well Pete decidedly change his ways and be legit but he never got to tell her because she thought she died.

Did years later Pete knows he is seeing things when he thinks he sees Kat at a auction he is putting on for Egypt art. Kat does show up at the auction looking for one specific pc. She knows that if the people looking for her can't find her they will get to her through Pete .

Lots of ups and downs in this Book and SunTrust between Pete and Kat mostly from the past. But old feelings start to surface but can lack of trust overcome the true feelings they had for each other.

Another good book in this series.

This was a good take on a second-chance romance and brought something new to the table. I was intrigued with Pete from book one and how he lost his love. Then to experience how he reunited with Kat was heartwarming. They had a great chemistry both times they were together. I really liked getting a look into the past to see how they first met and fell in love. It wasn't an easy road for them to feel for each other again but I liked that. There were lots of hurt feelings that they had to battle and forgiveness to be given in order to move forward. The conflict itself was interesting. I had a feeling the villain would be who I thought, but the author still threw me for a loop on how that was revealed. I was pleasantly surprised by that twist. I look forward to reading more of the series.

Terrific!

Book two is even more exciting than book one. This chase after missing Egyptian artifacts, thieves, and terrorists is nonstop adventure. There is also romance with Pete finding the love he thought dead and their attempt to avoid being killed, while they revisit memories of their meeting and romance six years earlier. Very thrilling romantic suspense adventure!

Great story. A little slow in some spots. Needs some editing, lots of missing words like the author was in a hurry and didn’t go back and read through.

The action, danger, suspense, and romance haven’t slowed down one bit in this second book in Ms. Naughton’s series. This story is about Pete, who is the best friend of the hero in Stolen Fury, the first book, and Kat, the woman he knew he’d never see again. Literally. The moment she amazingly and unexpectedly shows up in his life again, they’re on the run, all the while finding their way back to one another as they learn to trust each other again after all the lies, secrets, deceit, and murder they went through when together six years before.

And the lies and secrets are on both sides. Pete has kept his past from Kat because he didn’t want her to think badly of him, especially since he’s thinking of proposing. It’s a very poignant moment near the end of the book when he tells Kat how she influenced him, even when he knew she wouldn’t be in his life anymore. Kat’s deceit went a little deeper — she faked her death. The men after her had threatened her family, so you can’t fault her for her decision, and she thought it was over between her and Pete, so she didn’t look back when she took the opportunity to die.

Six years later Kat comes out of hiding when she learns Pete is auctioning off all of his Egyptian artifacts he’s collected over the years — pieces he couldn’t resist because they reminded him of her. She has to get her hands on a certain piece, and from the moment she does nothing goes right, including getting to know Pete all over again. It’s Pete himself who doesn’t want to get tangled up in Kat’s life again. He had enough the first time around, especially after grieving for her, but when the chances come to walk away from her, he just can’t do it.

Together they unravel the mystery surrounding the dig Kat was on in Egypt all those years ago, the missing antiquities she reported to the proper authorities, and the evidence that’s been hidden in plain sight during the time of her supposed demise. They also work to learn about each other again. The spark, the lust, the chemistry, and finally the love they both finally acknowledge is still there. They just have to want it at the same time to make things work. And when that moment comes, it’s Pete who breaks the reader’s heart as well as Kat’s. He’s a hero in a million.

This is a well-thought-out concept and wonderfully written books in the trilogy so far. The mysteries are complex but the love is simple, a balance achieved with characters you can’t help but like. The third book, Stolen Seduction, is due out next year and I am looking forward to it. You get to know both the hero and heroine of that book while reading the first two. I like them already, so I know their story is going to be just as good as these first two.

After reading these two books, Ms. Naughton is now on my auto-buy list.

For the past six years Pete Kauffmann has never be able to forget the white-hot affair he and Katharine Meyer enjoyed while he was in Egypt dealing antiquities and Katharine was working at an archaeological dig.

But a series of unfortunate circumstances and misunderstandings forced them to part on a sour note and before Peter can clear the air and set things right between them he discovers that Kat has “died” in a car bomb explosion..or did she.

In fact Kat Meyer with the aid of a former, CIA ex-boyfriend Marty staged her own death to protect her friends and family from some pretty nefarious thugs who would like nothing better than to get their hands on her and some damaging information they believe she has in her possession.

Peter has to get over his disbelief at seeing Kat alive and well and put aside his feelings of betrayal quick as he soon discovers that the recently resurrected Kit-Kat (loved the nickname) has embroiled him in a heap of trouble, including being drugged, dodging bullets and on the run for his life as they attempt to evade a group of really bad middle-eastern hitmen.

Stolen Heat is a reunion story between Peter and Kat. Naughton weaves between the past and present through out the novel, telling the back-story between the two lovers which allows us readers the insight to understand the actions and feelings Peter and Kat had for one another in the past and how it affects their present day relationship.

Stolen Heat is a roller-coaster ride and an action-packed adventure love story. It has all the elements I enjoy in a romantic suspense novel and I loved it.

Next up Stolen Seduction and I can’t wait to read Hailey Roake’s story. She first made an appearance in book one Stolen Fury as Rafe’s ex-wife. It promises to be as entertaining as the last 2 books.

Peter Kauffman is an antiquities dealer who for years was not exactly clean with his deals. That is, until he met Egyptologist Katherine Meyer and had a burning love affair with her. But Pete’s lies about his business ruined everything and before he could try to make it right, Kat died in a car bomb.

Six years later, Kat is back, alive and kicking. The woman Pete thought was dead isn’t and all those old feelings come rushing back, for both of them. However, Kat isn’t just back for him, she’s determined to find the truth about what happened years ago in a pitch-black cave while evading a killer who’s out for revenge and Pete is right in the middle of it.

Stolen Heat is another winner by Ms. Naughton! There’s a sizzling romance but it doesn’t steal from the tight plot about the mystery Kat is trying to find the truth about. After 6 years, she can’t hide as a dead woman anymore and something makes her come out, even though she knows those people looking for her will find out and come after her again.

Both main characters, Kat and Pete, are people who are trying to stay alive and also can’t help but have those old feelings come back. Pete is furious that Kat was hiding all those years, understandably. Both are multi-dimensional characters that come together beautifully. There are some characters from Stolen Fury who are revisited in Stolen Heat and I thought that was great.

Stolen Heat is an awesome combination of deadly suspense, edgy action and a wonderful romance with characters that you’ll laugh, cry and yell with. I had a great time reading it and I’m definitely looking forward to more of Ms. Naughton’s books.

The last person antiquities dealer Peter Kaufman expected to see after the auction was her. A car bomb killed Egyptologist Katherine 'Kat' Meyer in Cairo, years ago. She's got to be dead but those almond eyes are unmistakable, but it can't be her. Peter thought he'd gotten past seeing Kat everywhere. That's why he was getting rid of this trinket. She can't be alive.

Kat's dreaded the day she'd run into Pete before she was ready and couldn't stop kicking herself or deviating from her plan. Kat's trying to retrieve a necklace she gave Pete that could prove her innocence and allow her to live her life again but running into Pete and being spotted by Egyptian thugs as she flees museum security takes away her options and put them both in jeopardy.

When they fell in love six years ago, the attraction was unmistakable but they had a fundamental problem. Pete thought rules were suggestions putting him at odds with the law. During the intervening years and the flashbacks the couple interact through intricate games of cat and mouse, truth or dare, two truths and a lie to keep each other at arm's length. Unfortunately it also did the same to this reader.

The plot and sexy times were interesting but while the flashbacks gave clarity and depth to Kate and Pete's relationship they weren't conducive to this reader's enjoyment and curdled the read for my taste. I had the impression of reading separate outings covering the same characters and didn't want to invest in either set. I wanted to like the outing more than I was able.

I loved this book!

The chemistry between the two main characters was awesome and full of fire. Kat and Pete were just one of the greatest couples I've ever read a story about. There was a past, a whole lot of feelings and a possible future.
The thriller story was also very exciting and I really enjoyed it. :) Elisabeth Naughton knows how to keep her readers at the pages! :)

Stolen Heat is powerful, sexy, heart-wrenching, and packed with action, with an exciting and satisfying ending.

Intense misunderstandings between the hero and heroine, making them think the worst of each other, is a technique that can work well in a romance when done right and not overdone (I'm looking at you, Judith McNaught) but it's so painful to me that it really ratchets down my enjoyment of the story. In this case, for me, it was right on the line - I still thought the book was great, but I don't think I'll be reading it again.

Stolen Heat jumps back and forth between the present and past frequently, and that's something I personally don't like in a book as, for me, it detracts from the main part of the story.

Naughton also tends to jump around to include multiple POVs besides the hero and heroine. Done judiciously (see Shannon McKenna) this can enhance a story, particularly the suspense when the POV is that of the bad guy, but for me, Naughton does it too frequently and with too many other characters. I would've enjoyed this book a lot more if it had been grounded in the present more firmly, explaining things that happened in the past but not actually going there so often.

Still, this story was well written and beautifully sensual at times, and did a great job of drawing me in and investing me in the main characters.
