i cant believe im actually writing a review for Koopa Capers, the nintendo adventure book from 1991. it's a CYOA book for kids starring Luigi, who has to find Wendy O'Koopa on the request of Bowser. i liked these books a lot as a kid and theyre still fun to read and play, but man, there are some real issues. as a game book (i cant believe im this stupid) i died a lot and it took me two hours and multiple attempts to win. some of the deaths you get locked into because you didnt pick up an item right at the start, and some of the puzzles just straight up have errors in them? for example the goomba alphabet puzzle in chapter 36 has a letter who just doesnt appear within the alphabet itself. whats up with that? i wouldve liked to have given this one more stars because it made me laugh out loud twice, which for a book about 100 pages long is pretty damn impressive, but getting locked into a death run and having to start again so many times was, by my calculations, bad game design. oh well. new book tomorrow!

Challenging. This is the eight in the series I've read or acquired. While the plot has an interesting premise for sure, the execution was lackluster for me. The locations are repetitive and it's not as funny as some other stories. I do like the curve-ball reason Wendy is missing, but not so much what the story does with the revelation. (Hint: Not much of anything)

This is a book where the correct items are needed to complete it so be aware of that. At least it does not contain trap items. Over all, meh.
