I had a good laugh and a wonderful time playing this one, especially that I'm staying at aunt's house which is unbearably boring. The whole thing was full of hilarious conversations and jokes, and the puzzles were quite a challenge, I even ended up losing in my first round :'( -Hope u check it soon, Sarah-
This seems slightly more "gamified" than the previous book, which adds another competitive element with the characters trying to win the Mushroom Games.
Part choose your own adventure, part activity book, and doesn't excell at either. You play as Luigi, which is a dubious choice. Only if your kid is a die-hard Mario Bros pan.
I was between eight and nine years old when I first read (and played) along with this and the other choose your own adventure books by Nintendo. In short, I was the perfect age to enjoy a story that did more than have a beginning, middle, and end - but several. Now in my thirties and looking back, I can't put a price tag on what this book and the entire series did to strengthen my interest in reading, problem solving, and of course - loving Nintendo.
This review will seem generic but in all honesty it does apply to 'all the above' within the Nintendo Adventure series. I hope that in today's paperless, all digital and shrinking physical ownership and face-to-face world - there still exists authors and publishers that seek to gain by exploring and taking full advantage of the win-win this market had and has to offer children and corporation alike.
Children don't know what's best for them - but this series was like getting a picky eater to complete an entire veggie only plate and believe it was ice cream. Final thought - It would be great to see on the maturing industry that is handheld touch computing devices a revival of the dynamic, puzzle solving, choose your own adventure/multi outcome book genre. These would certainly for my own and eventual children instant buys and shared family joys to engage together in completing.
This is one of the better books of the series. It stars Luigi which is great and the puzzles weren't bad. The ending which involves the Olympics games thing is one of the best parts. I like that you don't have to necessarily do perfect to win.
If you can find one of these. (which isn't easy because the prices have went way up since I collected a few of these years ago) definitely check it out.
