Katsura Hoshino ((星野 桂 Hoshino Katsura) was born on April 21, 1980, in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, as the younger of fraternal twin girls and the second of three children. She drew her first manga at twenty-one. In 1998, Hoshino moved to Tokyo. She dreamed of bringing her mother to the city and was able to in 2006.
She made her debut with her comics in July 2003 with the publication of her first manga series Continue and is known for her work, D.Gray-man, which began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in May 2004.
I was... Not calm for most of this. Also : fuck that cover. It has no right to hurt me so. So I liked that we got to breath a little bit at the end. I needed that breather. I need the moments of bonding.
4/5 Once again things slow down a little bit as The Order packs up to relocate after the attack on headquarters. Some confusing side chapter with the Earl and The Noah but mostly just a light volume of antics by the crew. Well except the first couple chapters that finish up the attack. Nice cover displaying the Science Department and Komui. This is also where the 2006-2008 anime ended with episode 103.
This is easily one of the best volumes in a long time. Kanda and Lavi are trying to do battle with a level 4 akuma without their innocence while Allen is being almost puppeteered by his innocence thanks to his injuries. The akuma wants to kill Komui who is trying to evacuate the base and save as many as he can.
Lenalee finally becomes the strong character she started out as before she reverted to the simpering manga girl type. Her innocence evolves into a cool new form which sadly takes the shape of high heels…I would like to see Hoshino have to do everything Lenalee is supposed to in spike heels, just saying. At least Lenalee is fighting again and saving the day instead of sitting in the corner crying like she has for so long.
The final chapter which I thought was going to be a humorous blow off chapter wasn’t. You’ll see what I mean when you get there.
Hmmm I cannot deny that the men in here are pretty to look at:) I like all of them, but recently I REALLY like Komui. He is so serious and stuff in this volume and I liked this side to him. I want to see more of this Komui sometime.
A lot of the omake didn’t appeal to me, but I love the horror comic arc with the vampire zombie bite, a welcome relief from the tension of fighting the Level 4 akuma. It was great to see Lenalee power up with a new Innocence, determined to protect her brother. It was also great to see Lavi and Kanda backing up Allen in the battle with Lenalee coming to back them all up. I especially enjoyed the interlude with Minister Kamelot, how he dotes on Road, flirts with Tyki in a goofy way, yet he’s terrifyingly effective in starting up a war. I’m left wondering about Tyki in all his elegant beauty, charming everyone, how he made a comeback from the state he was in to his normal sardonic self. The Millennium Earl showed a mysterious, almost sympathetic side along with something like ambiguity when it comes to Allen. This suggests there’s a lot more to the Earl and his plan than we’ve seen. Why do akuma and Noah hate Innocence so much? What are akuma truly for? All of these are interesting questions raised, right before distraction took us screaming and laughing into the next arc. At last Krory is waking, getting some attention, calling for Allen and Lavi, the ones who motivated him during his last battle. What will happen next? I’m eager to find out.

I really liked the comradrie of this novel, and it really felt some great beautiful things from Lenalee this chapter, especially when she was like reality is just a bad dream, and she wishes she was back just living with overbearing Komui. It really kind of yells at that these kids are soldiers with trauma! And Lenalee and Allen specifically are CHILDREN. Lenalee being forced to stay at the order and Allen kept away from it just with Cross being his guardian. It just makes me want to scream, they deserve peace. Everyone here deserves it.
We also got to see the Noah play acting being nobles. I thought it was interesting to see the Earl not yellow.
This volume was good, and then the end got so dumb. I hate the zombie arc, I've read it before once was enough this part just feels like it was put in there because Hoshino had a deadline and they needed to bullshit. So not too excited to continue to vol. 17 : (
There was a little too much going on in this one for me - a bit hard to keep up with.
The battle against the level 4 Akuma is finished, with our heros winning the day, and Lenalee finally getting her badass moment I was hoping for. Then a rather confusing aside with the Noahs, who apparently masquerade as a high society family(?), the Earl has a human disguise(?), and a new member, Sheril, is introduced, and swiftly starts a human war.
Finally the volume ends with another one of Komui's hair-brained inventions on the verge of destroying the Order.
A few too many plotlines in this one - it was hard to keep track of where the story is going.
Lenalee goes looking for a fight with a level four Akuma as the summary says and the resulting battle at headquarters immediately following the attack tears the place apart even further. Then in the aftermath the Black Order decides to move headquarters as a result of the attack and resultant near destruction of the castle, but a science experiment gone wrong interferes with moving day...
I… didn’t understand this book. It started out ok, but then there’s a hair tonic and bookman’s got rabbit ears and Allen had a growth spurt and sometimes his hair is short and sometimes it’s in a ponytail (suits him) and then there’s a zombie virus Komui created. Plus the side story of a human-form earl and Tykki and Road, I’m confused. The majority of it felt like a filler episode in the anime. It interrupted the flow. It’s like I skipped a book.
This one is definitely an improvement for me over the last book. Things are finally starting to recover and things are trying to get back to normal - though normal is never quite normal enough, considering Komui's weird experiments. This is definitely a cute volume.
ENFIN ! Lenalee revient au combat et l'histoire prends un rythme beaucoup plus exaltant. Le combat ne traine pas en longueur pour qu'on puisse traiter par la suite de sujets beaucoup plus passionnants.
Okay, so Lanalee got her powers back. which honestly I'm happy about because I found her to be extremely whiny these last few volumes. So, hopefully, this is a step in the right direction for her. I still love Allen, I love how far he has come, and the general Cross is actually super cool!

Good stuff. FINALLY Lenalee is back in the action and the resulting fight is extremely good. The touching scene if grief and loss is then of course followed up by a zombie virus but things were just like that in the 2000s.
I literally got dizzy after reading so many D.Gray-man volumes all at once. Definitely not a big fan after all, although there are some pretty cool moments.
the beginning was crazy good, and that ending was way too funny, luckily we have some fun times with the characters, they deserve some time for themselves
This volume is really seperated into two halves. The first half finishes up the attack on the Black Order HQ and and is very emotional.
The second half deals with the aftermath, but is a lot more lighthearted. Staff is clearing out of the old HQ, while the Science Division also tests new serums on the Excorcists, such as giving Allen an instant ponytail (which is hot!), while reducing Lavi and Kanda to child-size akuma killers. Probably my favorite installment; or one of them, anyway.
