Published by QEB Publishing as part of their Mighty Machines: Rescue Vehicles series in 2009. My son, who loves vehicles, enjoys this book and wants me to find the rest in the series (Ambulance; Fire Truck; Rescue Boat).

We have a few books along these lines, and this one distinguishes itself by being quite large and square. There is one large photograph on each page and 1 or 2 smaller photos with small blocks of text explaining about the vehicles. The pages have thick yellow borders, and the text is written in something resembling comic sans which was surprising!

1) No awards
2) Grades: kindergarten- 2
3) This book is about police cars. It describes what goes in a police car and the different types of vehicles that police drive. It is a typical informational text in its format. There is a table of contents, grocery and index.
4) I like this book a lot. It has larger print and clear, bright pictures. I like that there is a glossary and that every word that is highlighted in the book is in the glossary, it helps children be more independent in their comprehension of new concepts.
5) This book can be used in the classroom to help a student that is very interested in this topic become an “expert”. Most of the information that is in this book is not something that children would ordinarily know. This helps a child to be able to teach and educate their classmates on a topic they know a lot about. This book can also be used in the classroom to teach or reinforce the format and characteristics of an informational text. This book is in the same series as the book about cars. This is great because it gives students an opportunity to look at familiar but different book to identify and understand informational texts.
