Finally! Erotic historical romance is starting to make a strong bid for recognition as an established sub-genre of Erotica and/or Historical Romance novels. Jess Michaels is one of a handful of authors making a significant contribution to this category... writing quality mainstream HR romances injected with a liberal amount of explicit, graphic, not-so-mainstream sex.
Taboo is a perfect example of erotic HR at its best. Those of us familiar with Regency England are well aware of the numerous "rules of polite society" that members of the ton were forced to adhere to. Those that were found acting outside of these rules/restrictions were immediately ostracized from polite society...sometimes for life. Such is the basis for the premise of Taboo...class difference. Although the heroine, Cassandra Willows, has a profitable business creating designer gowns for the elite members of the ton, and is accepted "per se" by polite society, she is still a member of the working class. She also maintains a lucrative side job creating sex toys for a discreet group of peers. The hero, Nathan Manning, Earl of Blackheath, once had his heart broken by the heroine. After a 4-yr trip to India, he is back and he is bitter. His sole purpose in life is to exact revenge on the woman who stood him up the night they were to elope to Gretna Green. He does so by blackmailing her with sex. She must be available at his whim or he will expose her sex toy secret to the proper ladies of the ton...causing a sure scandal & probable downfall of Cassandra's business and social acceptance.
Nathan's blackmailing scheme starts off with a bang (literally) as he is determined to hurt & degrade Cass. (He doesn't want to get personal with her so he takes her from behind or he won't remove his clothes so
she can touch him intimately.) However, the blackmail aspect soon looses steam and their relationship, once again, evolves into one of mutual desire and eventually love. But things aren't any different now than they were 4 years ago...Cass & Nathan are still from two classes that are not socially acceptable together. To make matters worse, Nathan must find a wife.
I loved this book! The story pretty much centered around Nathan & Cassandra's relationship, and what few secondary characters were involved were all crucial to the story. The sex was HOT...definitely not your mother's gothic romance novel's standard-3-times sex from back in the day. The sexual encounters were frequent (but not to the extent they overrule the story, fresh (never repetitive) and fun (creative use of Cass's designer toys). Also, the sex was between the hero & heroine exclusively..my personal preference provided it doesn't get repetitive (as well as my "personal" personal preference provided it doesn't get repetitive with the same person LMAO);D
I'd recommend this book to all my friends here at GRs because you all enjoy the same kind of books I do 51% awesome story 49% awesome sex!

Five alarm fire anyone? Sex that will leave your mouth dry because you were so focused on the scene that you forgot to swallow for two minutes? Or maybe an OMG-I-am-panting-where-is-my-significant-other scene so I can slake my thirst here? :D Oooo this book is gooooood stuff! A scorcher hot and 100% ick-free read to boot –and god knows there was more than a lot of ick potential in this book. There are sex toys, bondage, anal sex, oral sex and some shake the plates in the cupboards breakfast table sex (now that was a, um, “vivid” scene –lol!) :D
Set as a regency historical, on the surface you think the taboo part is that the seemingly quiet and proper seamstress makes and sells sex toys on the side but the title is well-chosen and there’s more than what you think that’s taboo. The theme of the novel is undying passionate love disguised as revenge or almost like a captive/captor theme in some ways. Here you have Nathan Manning Earl of Blackhearth who years ago was jilted when he had planned on eloping with Cassandra the seamstress in training at the time. They fell in love but “things” happened and he hated her with a passion for years thinking that she betrayed him. And so the story unfolds.
Cassandra is an excellent heroine. She rose from nothing to become the most celebrated seamstress of the ton. She’s strong and isn’t afraid of sex but she doesn’t flaunt it all either. Years later, Nathan sees her by accident one day and decides to put his plan for vengeance into motion by blackmailing her. He is so mean to her but he hates himself for it even though he tries to convince himself otherwise. He’s great in the roll of the I-could-give-a-crap-about-you-all-I-want-is-sex hero but underneath it all he is so hurt because of what he thinks he knows.
I may have mentioned also that the sex was "well-written" –yeah, it’s scattered throughout the book and there’s just enough not to make you feel like it’s excessive and over the top. Something new for every occasion just to keep you interested (lol!) Michaels writes some top of the line sex scenes filled with emotion and leaves out the gross and ew.
So in case I didn’t make it clear, this is a mighty fine piece of historical erotica, with well-developed characters, a plot that moves smoothly, perfect doses of hate/betrayal/revenge/love, pages that just whip right on by and enough steam to make you take a big gulp of air to reregulate the ol’ heart when it’s over ;)

When I first started this book I found myself disappointed and really NOT liking the hero Nathan. I mean what kind of hero would blackmail the woman he supposedly loved in the past into being his mistress for the purpose of revenge? But as I continued reading, I found myself seeing a man who had been devastated by the loss of a woman he dearly loved. He felt that she had just tossed him aside like so much trash and betrayed him with another man. Oh course blackmail isn't the answer, but I could kind of understand why he did it and feel for him.
On the other hand, I loved the heroine, Cassandra. She was a self-made woman who instead of being defined by the grief she had gone through in the past, built a respectable and another not so respectable business all by herself. She is one of the strongest, most self-assured, determined woman I think I have ever read about.
The thing I didn't like about each of them was that they wouldn't confront the problems or issues they had with each other and that in turn led to a lot of unneeded angst and misunderstandings.
The last few chapters I just bawled as what really happened years ago to break them up came out in the opening and of course how they handled the reveal.
There was one very secondary character Stephan, who I fell in love with and hope he gets his HEA. I'd take him. I liked him almost better than the hero.
This is a great read and I am glad I stuck with it and not given up after the first couple of chapters.

She was a self-made woman who instead of being defined by the grief she had gone through in the past, built a respectable and another not so respectable business all by herself. She is one of the strongest, most self-assured, determined woman I think I have ever read about.

Novela corta. Aunque los protagonistas no tienen que ver con las hermanas, solo son conocidos.
La hija de un sastre y el hijo de un noble se enamoran y deciden huir a Gretna Green. Pero la familia de él no está de acuerdo y los separarán a fuerza de mentiras y otras cosas.
Luego de cuatro años se reencuentran. Pero han cambiado. Ella es una modista famosa que ha tenido sus amantes y él ha estado viajando por la India todo ese tiempo. Pero él quiere vengarse de lo que ella supuestamente hizo.
De la mejor manera posible.
Hasta que la verdad salga a la luz.
Mucho, mucho sexo, algo rudo al principio y muy creativo después aunque nada raruno.
No sé si será la mejor novela pero me encantan las novelas históricas eróticas. Me motivan.
Y he leido muchisimas peores ( ni me hagan acordar de la "Esclava victoriana" )

Cassandra is a self-made woman, strong and sexually determined. Nathan is more than a match for her, and their encounters are sizzling and exciting. When the narrative shifts perspective between the two, it's fascinating to hear who they each view the other, and how far off the mark they are between what they see and believe based on expression and tone, and what beats strongly beneath their façades.
The pacing is swift and heady, but the story moves almost too fast, the book too short to really give you a chance to appreciate the moment. Moments. There's very little in the way of sub-plot, so focused on Nathan and Cassandra's affair and hearts as it is. The period is a bit vague - it reads as a Victorian-era novel, with the descriptions of the clothes and Nathan's India stay, yet at one point a character mentions the Prince Regent - who was quite a bit earlier. That was a bit confusing, almost as if Michaels wasn't confident enough of her historical knowledge and accuracy to be clear about it. Since the story takes place in a bit of a bubble, it doesn't matter all that much, but I like to have historical context and that extra dose of realism.
A passionate, heart-felt and at times edgy romance between two erotically-charged and endearing characters, Taboo is a head-spin of desire and release. The graphic scenes aren't over-the-top or at all cheesy, and the acts aren't particularly kinky, if that's not your style. It's more about the emotions of the two, and the seemingly hopeless case they present.
And it's a gorgeous cover.

Tinha este livro na estante há uns 2 meses e sempre que olhava para ele pensava "já vou!" mas nada. Lá comecei a ler e li cerca de 80 páginas mas sinceramente não estava a adorar, era bom mas nada de especial, estava a ver demasiado sexo para pouca história, pus o livro de lado e assim ficou umas semanas. Um dia "bati o pé" e pensei que não era tarde nem cedo ia mesmo recomeçar a ler e foi e surpreendi-me o desenvolvimento mudou, começou a ficar menos sexual e mais romântico e comecei a adorar.
Cassandra é uma força da natureza, uma mulher de garra bem à altura de Nathan um homem determinado e orgulhoso. A história é linda e não falarei dela porque não quero fazer spoiler de tipo nenhum só digo que é picante, surpreendente e absolutamente deliciosa. Personagens com personalidades fortes e coerentes, uma escrita rápida, fácil, acessível e bastante envolvente. Jess Michaels sabe como nos cativar com acontecimentos marcantes e encontros sexuais ao mais alto nível.
É sem dúvida uma leitura obrigatória para as amantes de romances sensuais pois contém todos os ingredientes fundamentais, uma história de amor arrebatadora e cenas de fazer corar tanto as mais púdicas como as mais espevitadas.

Lembro-me de há uns tempos ter feito um inquérito sobre quais as melhores autoras do romance sensual. Na altura, incluí nomes como Sherrilyn Kenyon e J.R. Ward, mas obviamente ainda não tinha lido Jess Michaels! Se há alguém capaz de ruborizar qualquer leitor mais tímido com as suas descrições é sem dúvida esta autora.
Nathan Manning, conde de Blackhearth, decide voltar a Inglaterra após quatro anos de isolamento na Índia. A causa da sua procura de refúgio noutro país é Cassandra Willows, a responsável por lhe partir o coração. Quando este regressa, vai visitar a sua tia, detentora de um grande estatuto e poder na sociedade, mas algo de inesperado acontece. Cassandra é a sua costureira de eleição e o choque é acontece logo ao primeiro vislumbre um do outro.
Cassandra Willows, costureira de renome, tem amigos poderosos. Após um passado tumultuoso, que decide prontamente em deixar para trás, lutou por ter sucesso naquilo que mais gosta de fazer, a costura, e descobriu uma outra vocação - a de criar brinquedos sexuais para as mais altas classes. No entanto, esta parcela do seu negócio, que é a que lhe dá mais lucros, tem que se manter num círculo muito fechado de forma a não estragar a sua reputação perante as damas da sociedade. Tudo corria bem, até que Nathan lhe aparece à porta, chantageando-a. O seu silêncio em troca de um sexo vingativo e lascivo, sem sentimento algum. Condições essas que ela não recusa. Um romance fantástico, com uma escrita pecaminosa, cheia de luxúria e que desperta a imaginação de qualquer um. Ambas as personagens são fortes e com carácter, tornando o enrendo mais excitante e impossível de resistir. Jess Michaels chegou para ficar e sem dúvida que foi uma boa surpresa. Gostei.

Este não é um género que prolifere na minha estante, muito culpa das más experiências anteriores e por ansiar sempre que este tipo de livros consiga ser mais do que o mesmo, pois geralmente não passam de longas descrições sexuais sem outro tipo de conteúdo ou história, pra os quais não tenho muita paciência. Mas, surpresa, surpresa, Tabu é um livro erótico em toda a acepção da palavra e tem uma história, com cabeça, tronco e membros e ainda consegue ter um bocado de originalidade no género, o que é quase um milagre.
Escrito de uma forma bela, crua e sensual, que consegue transmitir sensações através das páginas, capaz de provocar um sorriso maroto e umas quantas faces coradas ou, até alguns afrontamentos, sem deixar de ter qualidade, Tabu é arrojado e único, um livro que desperta os sentidos e acelera o coração numa miríade de descrições que vão chocar e tentar qualquer leitor que tenha coragem de pegar neste livro. Não escondendo aquilo que é, um romance histórico erótico, não deixa também de ser um hino à luxúria, ao amor, a paixão e ao desejo, onde as emoções que duas pessoas podem causar uma a outra são exploradas de uma forma humana e poderosa, onde não há dúvidas que o tempo, as mentiras e os segredos não conseguem abalar os grandes amores.

Há momentos para tudo na vida e quando as oportunidades certas aparecem, há que as aproveitar. Posto isto, o capricho de um livro mais quente havia, subtilmente, entranhado em mim há já algum tempo. Com a oportunidade e a vontade de fantasiar, o feito deu-se… Após a leitura de dois romances sensuais, tenho de confessar que gostaria de colmatar a minha parca experiência. Acredito que haja grandes romances dentro deste género literário, que ainda poucos portugueses apostam (talvez agora com o novo fenómeno internacional “As Cinquenta Sombras de Grey” isso possa mudar).
Nathan Manning, conde de Blackhearth e Cassandra Willows, as personagens principais deste escaldante livro, são um casal onde a raiva e uma insaciável sede de vingança influencia toda a trama. Durante duas semanas, graças à magnitude do desejo que ainda sentem um pelo outro, são, inevitavelmente, atraídos para um labirinto de pensamentos contraditórios e lutam para se manter á tona – apesar de isso significar a sua separação permanente.
“Desejava Nathan, mas odiava a chantagem que exercia sobre ela. Ansiava pelo seu toque, mas temia as emoções que lhe inspiravam. Desejava que voltasse para ela, e receava que isso acontecesse. Em resumo, a sua vida estava virada de pernas para o ar e totalmente descontrolada.” p. 92
A partir de metade do livro, a atmosfera lasciva dá lugar a um novo foco: a procura da verdade por detrás de uma antiga promessa quebrada por Cass. Quando Nathan souber o que esteve implicado nessa traição será que ele se isolará, deixando a culpa deturpar-lhe as emoções ou irá lutar pela força do amor que sente por Cassandra?
Embora a atracção estivesse presente deste o primeiro encontro, o romance aconteceu gradualmente. Por vezes, os alicerces da relação quebravam, não havendo uma completa sensação de realidade por parte do enredo. As personagens pouco mais complexas são do que parecem. A linguagem é directa e sem tabus, fazendo jus ao título da melhor maneira. Quanto às descrições dos momentos mais íntimos, gostei imenso do facto de manterem um certo nível de classe e sensualidade à mistura.
“O gozo e a libertação atingiram-na como um soco no estômago, tirando-lhe a respiração, desprovendo-a de palavras e pensamentos coerentes. Só conseguiu gritar, com o coração ao pé da boca e os pulmões apertados, ao mesmo tempo que ondas de um indizível prazer a abalavam.” p. 121
Sempre ouvi dizer que o fruto proibido é o mais apetecido e neste livro a expressão tanto vale para as personagens como para as leitoras mais atrevidas e corajosas. Este pleasure guilt tem todos os ingredientes próprios de um romance desta natureza – desde uma paixão proibida, cenas tórridas do início ao fim mas, sobretudo, um segredo que há-de complicar a vida ao jovem casal. Apimentando, assim, todo o seu romance e culminando num intenso final feliz.
+ Um grande aplauso para quem editou a capa, cuja intensa luxuosidade e requinte aliada à fitinha lilás (igual á cor do perfume de Cassandra) torna-a inesquecível. Mesmo quem nunca leu o livro, reconhecê-lo-á pela sua maravilhosa capa recheada de pormenores.

Neste caso, posso confessar que é a capa que salva o dia, pois sem um enredo propriamente memorável e marcante, a história deixa muito a desejar.

Se eu casasse com uma mulher, tinha de ser uma como a Cassandra Willows.
A maioria dos romances eróticos não passam de “boy meets girl, girl meets boy and they fuck each other’s brains out”. As personagens são trabalhadas, têm uma história e a mulher é retratada como sendo forte, decidida e independente.
Aqui temos uma costureira que vê a sua vida arruinada após uma série de problemas que a impediram de se encontrar com o seu noivo.
Conseguimos ver como, numa sociedade de aparências, uma mulher vive dos belos e puros vestidos para as jovens debutantes e respectivas mães e ao mesmo tempo esconde uma mulher conhecedora dos segredos do sexo.
Este é sem sombra de dúvida o melhor romance erótico que já li e recomendo vivamente a que o façam pois já à algum tempo que não ficava agarrada a um livro desta maneira.

Regency romantica that didnt really do it for me. He was mean, because of a big misunderstanding, and I didnt buy her. (She's a highly sought after modiste of the ton- who does sex toys as a side business. I would have been totally cool with this little twist- if it werent for how she became a women of questionable morals for the time. uh uh, not buying that she'd want to have anything to do with her lifestyle after that.)

Jess Michaels, considerada a estrela do romance sensual, apresenta-nos em “Tabu” o par Nathan Manning, conde de Blackhearth e Cassandra Willows, a mais prestigiada costureira de Londres e clandestinamente criadora de objectos de prazer.
Quando jovens partilharam um amor impossível, o que os leva a decidir fugir para poderem ser felizes longe dos pais de Nathan, que nunca concordariam com esta união. Contudo, no dia em que seria suposto fugirem, Cassandra não aparece no local combinado, o que aliado a uma carta que o pai de Nathan diz ter interceptado entre Cass e o seu amante, o deixa destroçado e o leva a sair do país e rumar à índia.
Ao retornar vem com uma enorme sede de vingança e um desejo enorme de poder estar novamente com a mulher que foi em tempos a pessoa mais importante para si, o que o leva a fazer chantagem com Cass, para que a mesma seja sua amante.
Tenho de confessar que adquiri este livro por causa da capa, que é absolutamente fantástica e que não sabia o que iria encontrar com esta leitura. Só quando recebi a encomenda é que percebi que se tratava de um romance sensual.
Relativamente à chantagem de Nathan, tenho de admitir que foi um dos pontos que me fez real confusão porque por muito magoado e traído que ele se sentisse, pela mulher que pensava ser a mulher da sua vida, e mesmo tendo em conta o passado de Cassandra, que foi amante de vários homens, penso que homem nenhum tem o direito de exigir favores sexuais. Cassandra destaca que se não se sentisse atraída por ele nunca teria concordado com esta chantagem e mesmo Nathan mais tarde admite ter sido um erro, porém isto demonstra que ela é demasiado submissa e ele demasiado possessivo.
A história de amor, embora a relação entre ambos se inicie deste modo com o qual não concordo plenamente, gostei do modo como o amor se reacende entre ambos, durante estes encontros que partilham, onde percebem que por muito magoados que estejam um com o outro ainda se amam profundamente.
Relativamente às personagens, pessoalmente penso que a autora deveria ter investido mais na caracterização das mesmas, de modo a que as pudéssemos ter compreendido melhor. O passado entre ambas fica esclarecido na obra, tal como o porquê de ambos estarem magoados um com o outro, porém penso que a autora poderia ter caracterizado e contextualizado melhor as personagens, tal como ter investido mais em diálogos, de modo a nos sentirmos mais ligados às mesmas.
Quanto às cenas de cariz sexual, penso que são um pouco em demasia. Quando adquiri esta obra, uma amiga minha leu-o antes de mim e avisou-me que havia uma cena a cada vinte páginas. Pensei que ela poderia estar a exagerar, mas não, tal sucede realmente. As descrições destes momentos são realmente sem tabus, numa linguagem recheada de luxúria e prazer e pessoalmente gosto de ler uma cena ou outra num livro, contudo quando o livro é recheado destes momentos, torna-se, para mim, um pouco maçudo e exagerado. Tal facto poderia ter sido colmatado, se o livro fosse um pouco maior, onde houvesse a tal caracterização e contextualização das personagens, de modo a não se tornar tão fastidioso.
Penso que este género de livros não faz muito o meu estilo literário, mas como ganhei num passatempo outra obra de romance sensual, irei tentar lê-la daqui a uns tempos.

Tabu é um livro rico em sensualidade e luxúria, completamente provocante em que o leitor viaja a um ambiente histórico tentador.
Cassandra Willows faz o possível e os impossíveis para esquecer completamente o passado e dedicar-se exclusivamente ao futuro, e por isso se tornou costureira dos mais conhecidos vestidos de Londres. Aceitando todos os pedidos das senhoras, o da Lady Worthington não foi excepção, o que não esperava era dar de caras com a sua antiga paixão, Nathan Manning, que havia desparecido para a Índia fazia quatro anos, e tendo ela vendo as suas decisões do passado passarem-lhe pelos olhos.
Nathan sofreu com o abandono de Cass no passado, quando ambos tinham feitos juras de amor. this one is very intense, made me teary. what happened 2 cassandra was awful, horrible n unforgivable. i can't 4give nathan's dad. he did not mean 4 her 2 get raped but she did get raped. he was not repentant, he did not regret his actions even though she was raped. nathan's dad is an ass; i dunt see why cass wanted 2 protect him. it's bcoz of this dat the book lost 1 star. i'm not a fan of god-samaritan heroines. the book did have some unbelievable moments like nathan abandoned her 4 years ago. he was prepared 2 elope wid her, 2 sacrifice everything 2 be wid her, everything be damned ! do u think a man like dat wud not look into the matter, demand an explanation !? yes, the logical thing 2 do wud be 4 him 2 face cassandra, even if 2 tell her what a slut he thought she was. he was clearly mad 4 her back then. it does not make sense 4 him instead 2 flee 2 india. i dunt grab dat 4 a sec. the book lost 1 more star due 2 dat

I really enjoyed this book. I loved Cassandra. She is so confident, charming and has a secret strength in her that I admire. I wasn't sure about Nathan because he was blackmailing her but seeing them together just made a whole lot of sense. The emotional intimacy was wonderful in this book compared to Something Reckless and Nothing Denied. The emotional connection mirrored that of Ethan and Miranda from the first book which I also loved. Overall another excellent novel from Jess Michaels.

Romantic erotica is a slippery slope. One person's "ahh" is another's "ugh." Michaels always hits the spot for me and the fact that she writes strong women and incredibly hot men makes a read that isn't just a string of sex scenes. I didn't think she could top "Everything Forbidden" but I think this is my favorite book of hers.

I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I read this book! This was such a great addition to the series and I loved the strong characterization and connection between the hero and heroine.

W O W. This book was incredible. I thought the previous one was good, but Taboo left me speechless in so many ways.
I am not sure how much I will allow myself to write for this review because I really want readers to experience this masterpiece themselves. I don't want to give away too many spoilers because Cassandra and Nathan's love story should be savoured like fine wine.
I was curious about Cassandra since the first book, Everything Forbidden, and I can say with utmost certainty that she is one of the best heroines ever. Her strength, resilience and compassion brought tears to my eyes. Try as I might, I could not bring myself to hate Nathan even though he was blackmailing Cassandra. I was annoyed by his highhandedness, but the last couple of chapters allowed me to see him through Cassandra's eyes. Cassandra helped me understand Nathan's actions and she also helped me sympathize with .
Cassandra and Nathan's past is not described in detail, but the readers are able to get the gist of why these two were attracted to each other and fell in love. The love scenes were explicit and exceptionally well-written. I think this is the most explicit book I have ever read; Cassandra and Nathan are involved in a wide range of activities that even managed to shock me. It should also be noted that I am not a reader of erotic romance, but I think it was mostly because I had not found the right author...until now. Ms. Michaels's writing is exquisite and sensual. I can say this with confidence because I was still swept away without feeling icky even though some of the scenes were not within my range of comfort. And this actually surprised me.
This story is even more complex than the previous one. The hero and heroine are such compelling and likable characters, even though it took me a while to warm up to Nathan. One thing I did find hard to believe was the fact that matrons of the ton were clients of Cassandra, even though she used to be a mistress to a couple of men. But this difference in social status between Cassandra and Nathan was summed up in the epilogue. I am so glad there was an epilogue after the HEA.
I won't go into much detail because my words will never do this story justice. I know which author I will be recommending to readers who do not usually read erotic romance.

Aqui conhecemos Cassandra, uma mulher solteira e independente, um caso raro tendo em conta a sociedade em que se desenrola a acção. Costureira de dia, amante e criadora de brinquedos sexuais à noite, Cassandra aprendeu a dar e receber prazer, e com o seu curioso contributo, influenciar a "felicidade" de muitos Lords e das suas amantes.

I already wrote this review and lost it. *facepalm* Alright, I'll write it again.
I loved this book. No, I absolutely adored the heroine, Cassandra. She was so amazing, strong and hardworking. Girl crush alert. The hero was...ok. Their scenes together were *fans self* delicious.
Cassandra is a seamstress and sells sex toys on the side. Oh, and for the past 4 years, she's been a mistress to many different men (not at the same time, get your mind outta the gutter). So this is not a sugar coated story in which the heroine happens to be a virgin mistress to an old protector-like man who sees her as a child. But her first time was with the hero, Nathan. Nathan's an Earl and the dumbass that she was supposed to marry 4 years ago if something didn't stop her from meeting him. Nathan assumes that she left him for someone else and escapes to India to mope. The book starts when Nathan returns to see Cassandra working as a seamstress. He initiates a relationship (using blackmail) to vent his anger and resentment. She takes it like...ho, until they fall in love again. But nothing will change until Nathan finally learns about what kept Cassandra away from him, succumbs to guilt, and magically (or not) gets motivated to make Cassandra his wife.
Cassandra was an amazing character. She's so hardworking and beautiful-hearted and strong. She's experienced terrible things and Nathan's wrath didn't help, but she still loves him and she's just amazing. Nathan's sorta a douchy bastard. He's privileged and spoiled which makes him a bit slow-witted to understand that there might be more to the story than his eyes could see. At least he grows up a bit by the end - though he goes through an emo-stage before he does. The scenes between Cassandra and Nathan are heartbreaking and painful and beautiful and steamy. I love it all.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can highly recommend it. It's historical romantica for those didn't know, so the entire book is full of highly sexual scenes. Btw, I lusted after Stephen and he was such a good friend - does he have his own book?

I had very high hopes for this book. While I wasn't disappointed, I shouldn't have set my standards so high just because of a pretty cover. The gorgeous cover is what intrigued me and I literally couldn't stop myself from buying it. I didn't know it was part of a series so I definitely am going to read the other three novels in the series. Although, I am so confused as to how they can consider this novel 2.5. What disappointed me about Taboo was the completely simplistic and unimaginative plot.
The rundown: boy and girl fall in love despite being in different classes of society. Because society would never accept their relationships, someone meddles, breaking them apart. One turns into a whore while the other turns into a crybaby and runs to another country. Said crybaby returns and, because he cannot get his once lover out of his head, he blackmails her into becoming his whore. Eventually, the truth comes out and the couple lives happily ever after.
Despite the uncreative plot, I really enjoyed this book. The erotic scenes were great except for one particular scene that just wasn't my taste. Despite that, they were expertly written. The only thing that actually bothered me was the fact that the female protagonist became a whore for the ton so that sex wouldn't be ruined for her. It was a major "Wtf?" moment and I almost threw the book across the room, especially since Michaels like to repeatedly bring this point up.
Overall, a pleasing erotic novel.

Book 2.5 in the Albright Sisters series. Comes after Something Reckless, but before Nothing Denied. I’m not exactly sure about this book. I liked the heroine… at the end of the book you can’t help but feel sorry for her! But, the hero… in my opinion he is just cruel. As the back of the book says, Nathan Manning, Earl of Blackhearth, is seeking revenge from Cassandra Willows, who did not show up on the day they were to elope, 4 years ago! He goes about it very meanly. Which is understandable since he’s still so angry with her, but I just never feel a change in his character, although I’m sure other readers would disagree with me. What happened to Cassandra was very upsetting. Some readers will not like it. Although, I don’t want to write a review with spoilers so you won’t find the answer here. So, this book was probably about 2 stars for me (based on the characters), but the story was very good, and had some major plot surprises for me, which bummed it up to 3 stars. Overall though, it wasn’t as good as the other Albright Sisters’ books, which is what I was looking forward to. Fans of the Albright Sisters though will see Miranda and Ethan, the Earl and Countess of Rothschild, from Everything Forbidden, albeit very, very briefly.

I read this book withing a span of 8 hours. I just couldn't put the book down. This is so far the sweetest book in the series. At first, I didn't even consider reading this book, partly because Cassandra's story is not really part of the "Albright" sister's stories. But when I started to read it, GOD I loved it.
Cassandra and Nathan are the best couple among the two others (Miranda/Ethan, Penelope/Jeremy) when it comes to history and sweetness. I also consider Cassandra to be the stongest female character thus far.
In addition, I've noticed Jess Michaels has greatly improved in her writing. I cannot really pinpoint what I'm talking about, but the way this book is written is better in general.
Though I still can't get over the passion between Miranda/Ethan; they are still the most "in-love" in my opinion, and as shown in all three books. Plus the picture of Ethan on his knees begging for Miranda's love is quite unforgettable.

I loved these characters. I wanted to knock Nathan upside the head for his obstinacy and anger against Cassandra. I loved Cassandra's patience. She knows why she did not show up but refuses to tell him for several reasons. The sex was hot! I loved how Cassandra's toys were used between them. The feelings behind that hotness remained true through the years they were apart. On Cassandra's part the love had deepened. Nathan had to learn what real love was. He also had to learn that all is not what he thought and that he had much to learn.
I plan on reading more of Jess Michaels. I enjoy her stories. I also loved the cover on Taboo.

I don't know if I am quiet disappointed to the story. I have read this story line in one of the HR books. It the same story, that the girl didn't shown because she got raped, and still the father of the hero is the one who asked for it. Same with the story line I read, the hero came back to have revenge to the heroine. I hoped for a different one, because I loved the first 2 books. Too many smexy, and they are all the same. Sometimes, it is tiring to read about it. Although, I can't stop reading this book, to see what will happen to the hero and heroine. The book became predictable for me. At least this one has an epilogue, which I am begging for the first 2 books. For me I give it a 3 1/2 stars.

Este foi um livro que abri num misto de expectativa e surpresa, e é certo que não sabia muito bem o que esperar desta leitura, apesar de estar de sobreaviso pela nota que consta na contracapa, e pelas descrições de cariz sexual bastante ‘visuais’, talvez não seja uma leitura apropriada a todos, mas se tal como eu ainda não passaram por este género literário este livro pode ser uma boa escolha pois encontrarão uma história de amor com contornos bastante voluptuosos e, como não é uma leitura que nos exija um grande grau de concentração, lê-se num ápice.

Este livro prometia muito. A capa é fantástica e a história até é interessante. Mas, a meu ver, as descrições das cenas de sexo são demasiadas, a cada 15 ou 20 páginas aparecem e não deixam a história ser mais desenvolvida. Senti falta disso, de uma história mais trabalhada e o tema tinha boas possibilidades de o ser. Até as personagens poderiam ter sido mais desenvolvidas. Para mim este é um exemplo claro de como uma história com boas possibilidades foi ultrapassada apenas pelas cenas de sexo que em bastantes vezes nada tinham a acrescentar ao enredo.

This was definitely erotica more than historical romance, which isn't a normal kind of read for me. I enjoy romances, but I like there to actually be some plot mixed in. This was way more sex than plot and I wish I could have actually gotten to know the characters a bit more (especially Cassandra!). I didn't care much for Nathan. I think he came across as more of a jerk than as someone who was hurt by the past. Not really my cup of tea.
